This is why Republicans suck at governing. Ever since 2008 it has been political suicide to even be perceived to be negotiating in good faith with Democrats for all but the most moderate of Republicans. It is also why Democrats can't take "in good faith" any deal Republicans appear to agree to because there is no guarantee that they will actually follow through with it. I'm not even sure if the GOP is attempting to negotiate this, but it would seem that the 2 months prior to this point would have been a good time to figure this out. McCarthy sucks at everything though so he didn't bother to do this and just hoped things would work out apparently. What's the point of continuing to hold votes unless some sort of deal or agreement has been reached between 2 of the 3 groups that are involved in this (Dems, Most Reps, and HFC)??
Says the guy who is a legacy politician.
I'd keep them there all night. But do the unforgivable take away their phones.

Democrat and moderate Republicans are going to have to find consensus. The far right is dug in.5th vote coming now, same nominees as fourth vote. Trump had zero impact.
I'm not sure how this ends.
McCarthy's biggest problem would be actually winning the speakership.Democrat and moderate Republicans are going to have to find consensus. The far right is dug in.

No way you can control your party with all the rules and procedural giveaways he's already conceded.
Could McCarthy be Speaker and get Dem votes if they split the committee chairmanships? Not sure what the Dems would need in order to go along with that. Starts to look a lot like Parliament.
then the Democrats have zero incentive to help rescue the Republicans from their mess. That’s not going to happen. House Republicans have little legislative control anyway. They basically ran on investigating Hunter. If they give that up they are abrogating their entire agenda.
Nor should they. This is the GOP mess, they broke it, they fix it.then the Democrats have zero incentive to help rescue the Republicans from their mess.

Assuming they vote at end, if not…speaker Jeffries?A number of Rs weren't there for their vote.
How many present or non votes will it take before Jeffers gets it. Or is that not possible?A number of Rs weren't there for their vote.
It’s for sure possible. I think the number is 7-8….but I’m not sure a present vote counts the same as no vote. How many present or non votes will it take before Jeffers gets it. Or is that not possible?
