Manfred: "MLB Could Shut Down On Monday Aug. 3"

They'll get sued if a death or serious injury gets traced back to them. That could be from a player, coach, clubby, or community member. They have deep pockets.
Be rich if you want to stay out of jail. Be poor if you don't want to be sued. It's the same issue NCAA FB, BB, NFL, or any major generating sport faces.
Have you seen how much some of these tournament companies are worth? Add in the host facilities. Multiply the risk times thousands. I’m sure the MLB waiver is a little better than what these tournaments were able put together. FWIW, I personally think tournaments or any sport organization should be immune from lawsuits if you are voluntarily signing up to play. You know the risk when you agree to play.

Over the past 6 weeks thousands of travel teams have played tournaments all over the country. College summer leagues have been going about the same time. You think dudes on college summer teams aren’t slaying hoes?

I'm seein' the word "cancelled" all over the place...

Ok, so again, thousands (probably tens of thousands) of teams playing around the country with no reported issues. How can they make it work and MLB can’t. There have even been families/fans in attendance at every tournament.

Little League International conducted a thorough assessment of the impact the devastating COVID-19 pandemic has had on 6,500 community-based Little League programs in 84 countries. After exhausting all possible options, Little League International, on behalf of its Board of Directors, has made the disappointing and difficult decision to cancel its seven World Series tournaments and their respective regional qualifying tournaments. This decision was made based on the significant public health uncertainty that will still exist several months from now, in accordance with direction from Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine, as well as senior public health officials and government leaders from locations where our other six World Series are held, as well as the their qualifying regional tournaments.

As we assessed the feasibility of including these tournament opportunities as part of our resumption of play plans, a number of factors went into the decision to cancel the World Series and Regional Tournaments, including:

  • The inability to play qualifying tournaments in many of our U.S. and International regions, coupled with direction from federal officials regarding the complexity of international travel restrictions and immigration requirements.
  • An indication from teams from around the world that they will be unable to participate or travel to these tournaments.
  • The testing and mitigation protocols that would need to be in place should an individual participating or attending an event be diagnosed with COVID-19.

There's a blurb coming out that MLB investigated the Marlins fiasco...evidently they partied it up in the hotel bar in Atlanta after an exhibition game there just before the regular season started.

Thanks, Marlins. Thanks a lot.

Yep. He sucks too. Completely butchered this and let tee owners make the players look like the bad guys.
My problem with Clark is he can't seem to get it though to agents/players that the economic rules have changed. The union should be pushing to get guys more in arby earlier instead of having all their value being eaten up on the cheap.

Manfred is blaming the players for not following
proper protocol. If he would look in the mirror
he would see the clown who dared to even
start the MLB season amidst a pandemic.

Mandred may be an idiot, but at least he’s mastered the “when to hit return/enter” challenge.

Nobody will ever. Ever be able to prove where they contacted the virus. Ever.

150,000 dead Americans is "fear porn media" to you?

Jeebus; do a little self-reflection.
Compared to tobacco and alcohol it isn’t many.

I really have zero sympathy for obese people smokers or vapers that have complications from Covid. Poor choices have consequences. My guess is that is a huge percentage of the dead.

I am fine with financial destruction. The bankruptcy of many DIII schools. I am prepared. The fear porn wants it. Let’s see it. I look forward to the three state universities laying off thousands. Dozens of school districts closing forever.

The only sympathy I have is for all the illiterate children that will be created via bad parents expected to teach their K-6 kids.

This should have been shut down a week ago. It’s been a disaster beyond imagination so far. It’s unbelievable that they are still trying to play games.

Why? How have travel ball and college summer leagues been able to operate for the past six weeks with no major issues but MLB can’t make it a week? These are youth teams with protocols that include wearing a mask while entering and leaving the facility and no high fives with the other team.

They don’t test. Lots of people have it and don’t know it or the symptoms are so minor they don’t bother.

bet the farm the unspoken word for high school football this fall is “don’t test, just stay home”.

After watching Craig Kimbrel pitch last night, maybe he should consider shutting down the Cubs.

The Marlins deserve to receive some type of
punishment from MLB for their lack of discipline.
They are the main culprits who have ruined the
current season due to being party animals.

Just cut the Marlins and Cardinals for the rest of the season, and let everyone else play. Well, the Phillies as well, if they get an outbreak. But No one cares about the Marlins and The Cardinals suck.
Cardinals have more cases this morning. Looks like they are stuck in Milwaukee for awhile.

How'd St Louis get it, then?

I'm really beginning to hate this goddam year.

Here I thought maybe, just maybe - I could enjoy maybe 3/8ths of a baseball season and at least a trifling bit of sports normalcy, no matter how asterisked it would look in the history books. Something at least to pass the time with for a couple months.

Now my team, in short, is royally screwed.

Rumor from actual Marlins players is 4 guys tested positive and still played that day. Not good for the sport.

Manfred has a big decision to make on Monday.
He can cancel the season and put MLB in the
mothballs until 2021.

Wrapped up another tournament (the storm got the last day cancelled). Tons of teams, parents, siblings. People kept their distance for the most part. Probably 50/50 on masks once inside the park. A good player on my son’s team didn’t make the trip as his mom has the covid. How can this run so smoothly and MLB can’t get their shit together.

The highlight for me was chatting with a guy terrified to send his kid to school with masks and social distancing, but yet his kid was in a crowded dugout with no masks.

Because people at your tournament aren’t being tested. Covid is undoubtably being spread like crazy at these events and passed on to many others.
