March 14 Joe Lunardi / ESPN Bracketology: IOWA is on the Bubble (7th Team OUT). #59 NET Ranking (8th Best in B1G) on March 14

Can this team win 10 conference games? Even that won't be enough....most likely need to be 11-9 going into Big 10 tourney. Cheers and GO HAWKS!

Just gotta win 8 of our next 14 to get to 11 wins. I think we have a shot.

Not sure where you are seeing that.

Before tonight's games, Lunardi has these teams in:
Purdue
Illinois
Wisconsin
Michigan State
Northwestern
Nebraska

He had these 3 teams still alive:
Iowa
Ohio State
Rutgers

I want to get my hopes up. I really do. Unfortunately, this is a very tall task that seems pretty unrealistic.

The Hawks were hurt by those late blown leads against Maryland twice, PSU, and Indiana. If we won 2 of those 4 we would be at 18-9 and not have as much pressure to win those remaining games to get a bid.

I saw our NET was listed at 66 during the telecast (I think 67 as you had noted is actually correct). It's possible to get in the top 60 before Sunday, I would think.

If we somehow win 3/4 we’re a lock. That would include a win over the Illini. We win 2/4 and 1-2 games in the BTT we’ve got a good chance.

I really hope you are right!!

Iowa's remaining 4 game schedule:

Quad 1: Home (1-30), Neutral (1-50), Away (1-75)
at #12 Illinois
at #57 N'western
vs # 12 Illinois

Quad 2: Home (31-75), Neutral (51-100), Away (76-135)

Quad 3: Home (76-160), Neutral (101-200), Away (136-240)
vs #99 Penn State

Quad 4: Home (161-363), Neutral (201-363), Away (241-363)

Yep; these 5 losses (especially the 2 home ones) were killers and have made the hill that much tougher to climb.

Can we bully our way to an NCAA Tournament berth?

The full text of the tweet:

Tony Perkins says that Iowa had a players-only meeting (other than Connor McCaffery, who was there, too) after the loss to Maryland. Discussion centered around being more assertive with leadership style. Perkins, Payton Sandfort, Brock Harding, Ladji Dembele, along with Patrick and Connor McCaffery, were among those to speak up.

Perkins' message was: “A few games where we should’ve won, we allowed them to bully us. It’s time to be the bully now."

Connor there over All-Star break? Cool.

I like Connor. Hope he can help them with his experience in that huddle over the last few years before he has to head back to Indy. If Iowa could just taken care of the Maryland games and PSU road loss like they did last night, this team would only be looking at that one bad loss to Michigan to start the season and a much better chance to be in the tourney. Finish strong guys. Beat the cryin Illini twice!

This team probably needs to win out plus win at least one game in the Big tournament.

A lot depends on the bubble.
They have too many bad losses. If they lose to Illinois, they probably need to win out and win a minimum of two in the Big. The MWC will take away a couple of bids since everyone thinks they will get as many as 5 instead of 1 or 2. It will also be interesting to see how many the WCC gets as well.

Will have to see. If they win 3 of the remaining 4 (I’m assuming a split with Illinois here), that puts us at 19-12/11-9 and I assume a Net ranking in the low 50s. That at least puts Iowa in the conversation, probably need to win 1 game in tourney to avoid a bad loss there.

Biggest thing as always is if there are any bid-stealers out there.

Up to 62 in NET rankings. Think if they get 3 of the next 4 strong chance of being in. Would still want a win one or two in BTT for lock. If they split the next 4. Going to be difficult. I’d think they’d almost have to make the BTT championship game to get in.

If we had just gone 2-3 in these games we would be in great shape right now.

Can't say anything is certain, but I think Iowa needs to win 4 more games (regular and BTT) to likely be in the dance. I think 5 wins would be a lock. Winning even 4 is a tall task, but I wasn't expecting to win last night. Illannoy and NW are good teams, especially on their home courts. PSU is not a gimme, but their coach's dismissal of their leading scorer should help. Last night gave me some hope.
