March 14 Joe Lunardi / ESPN Bracketology: IOWA is on the Bubble (7th Team OUT). #59 NET Ranking (8th Best in B1G) on March 14

Iowa is likely going to need to go 3-1 to finish to feel somewhat safe for having a shot at bubble selection. Beating Illinois is pretty tall task and Northwestern is probably pretty equal opponent.

So unlikely is still a fair description for their post season chances. Saturday is a begin game for those hopefuls.

Should he be playing?

If he were a Hawkeye, would he be allowed to play for Iowa after the Pierre Pierce fiasco?

Some schools have lower standards for player personal conduct than others. I would argue that Illannoy has been near the bottom of the Big Ten for a long time.

I think the disappointing thing was Iowa's NET barely moved when they beat Wisconsin. Went up two spots.

I think you are putting way too much emphasis on Iowa's own NET ranking. It's the aspect that is least important for the NCAA tournament. Quad records, SOR, SOS, road record, etc are all much, much more important than the NET ranking. Our opponents NET is the important thing to care about.

Here are today's NET Rankings.

MN still has 6 games left. Need to win out at home vs OSU tonight, PSU, IN at home are doable.

@NE, @IL, @NW going to be very difficult for them. 3-3 is probably the best they can realistically can get.

Hopefully that keeps them as a Quad 1.

Fran McCaffery on this Iowa team:

"It's a resilient group. We've had some tough losses. We've had some really good wins. And in those wins and losses, we really had to compete. They were all pretty close games. So you have to sorta connect in a way that enables you to stay together. And then if you make some mistakes or some things don't go right, where do you go from there? Do you stay together and learn from those mistakes? Or do you point fingers and blame others for those mistakes. And this has been a really mature group that hasn't done that. They've stayed together. They've stayed positive. They've come to practice and work hard. It's a great group to be around."

Per ESPN, Iowa is the 10th team OUT at the start of today.

Teams on the OUTside, looking in:
1 Wake Forest
2 Utah
3 Ole Miss
4 Villanova
5 Colorado
6 Oregon
7 Drake
8 Butler
9 Cincinnati
10 IOWA

Hawks are In a very unique position. I truly think if they lose at Illinois they don’t drop at all and their chances remain the same. But if they win. . . They are in the driver seat for making the NCAAs.

IIRC, you stated Iowa needs to go 3-1 to finish the reg season and at least 1-1 in the B1G Tourney. If so, I agree ;)

Scott seems to think 3-1 to close out the reg season and 1-1 in the B1G Tournament gives Iowa a chance to dance.

That would put Iowa at 20-13.

Interesting that we are competing with 2 teams we beat, Seton Hall and Nebraska. That’s got to help us if it’s close. I would love to get Nebraska in the BTT.

Iowa needs to beat Northwestern.

Hopefully we take care of Penn State at home first.

Iowa's remaining 3 games:

Quad 1: Home (1-30), Neutral (1-50), Away (1-75)
Sat March 2:..........at #55 NET N'western
Sun March 10:........vs # 16 NET Illinois

Quad 3: Home (76-160), Neutral (101-200), Away (136-240)
Tues Feb 27:............vs #97 NET Penn State

Iowa, now at 16-12, has 3 reg season games (need to go 3-0?) and the B1G Tournament (need to go 1-1?) left.

Finishing no worse than 4-1 (with that loss in the BTT) would put us at 20-13. Hopefully that would be enough to Dance.

The full text of the tweet:

Payton Sandfort: “We’ve got a really tough group. We’ve got a lot of guys playing well. Obviously, this one didn’t turn out the way that we wanted. But I’m proud of the way we battled. We had our chances in a really hostile environment against a top-15 team, so it just kinda shows what we’re capable of. We got to continue to keep working, keep getting better. We got to be ready to go Tuesday night.”
