Marinelli-Hall tonight

Jeske starts down, good action off bottom, gets an escape. Bullard in on a single...pretty good scramble. Bullard almost shelfs the leg, great defense by Jeske, almost gets a TD himself.....OOB.
Restart neutral in the middle. These guys are wrestling, lots of scoring attempts by both guys. Slideby for Bullard, drops to a low single...time runs out.
Bullard goes down winning 2-1

Jeske doing a good job riding but not looking like he's really looking to turn him. Minute left. Bullard gets the escape on the edge. Restart neutral with a minute to go. Jeske in on a single....has the leg high...tries to run the pipe...Bullard finds the whizzer in the seatbelt position...scramble...no score off it. Jeske coming hard...underhook Jeske...Bullard called for a stall...time ..
Bullard wins 3-1

Here it comes.

Bull gets in on a double...wow...that was deep but OOB>
Hall shoots low and Alex steps back.. Bull in on another shot, Hall defends, Ohhhh.....getting chippy...both exchange hard hard slaps.
Hall with a nice HiC attempt but basically gets nothing.

Bull goes down. Rotates up on a standup, Hall takes him back down. Stalemat. Hall went for a nearside cradle and they get to another SM. The bull kicks out for an escape....about 45 seconds left.
Another deep shot by AM....has teh leg high...damn...time runs out...
Hall goes down up 2-1

Huck, thank you very much for the PbP. Outstanding job.

the Bull goes optional starts, Hall immediately turns and reaches for the leg and gets a reversal. then locks up a cradle and gets back...now has a turk and gets 3 more NF....fights off his back...now bloodtime. Hall up 9-1

Damn. Hall is good. Not that we didn't know that. More it the point, there was a discussion a few weeks ago on FRL about cutting someone the "right" way, and Marinelli got caught be being dumb.

1:00 left on restart. Bull down...gets to his feet...in on another deep shot....jesus....Hall turns it into 2 for himself. 11-3 Hall
Hall ...good god...just looks like he's going to ride it out and then he drapes over and locks up a spladle and gets NF...Alex gets out and gets the reversal. Time runs out. 14-5

Well that went downhill in a hurry, AM is going to be good...couple finishes and not falling asleep on optional start and that's a lot different score.

I don't think there could have been a deeper double leg against Hall than was at the first . . . . zero points.

And getting a single leg seems completely useless.

That match was truly discouraging.

Welp...Cael's next "project" seems to have a lot of upside. I'm sure Cael will do a great job developing him ;)

Marinelli screwed up and stood too close during an optional start. He got reversed to his back and spent the rest of the match there.

Both Happel and Marinelli look small for the weight they are wrestling.

Maybe. Marinelli went up midseason because it made the team better. Regardless, this is his weight, he chose to wrestle here. I'm still excited about Alex, and came down to one mistake that blew the match open. Hall is just better right now, he also may be bigger.

His ability to just limp leg out of singles is my favorite thing he does. Effortless.

Literally a "bull" vs a seasoned "matador". Take away a couple mental lapses and the score is closer, but he is still a full step behind Hall. Hall is so solid in all positions and has a significant variety of attacks. As special as Marinelli is, Hall looks to be that "once in a generation" talent. Hopefully Brands and company can do what it takes to refine Marinelli and make him competitive with Hall when it really counts!

14-5, and Hall clearly the winner, but some bright spots for Marinelli ... he got to Hall's legs several times, I think had Hall's leg raised twice, but just couldn't finish. Got caught twice in careless positions - a cradle and a spladle. There is definite potential for making this a much closer match next time.

Marinelli looks to be a good wrestler. I am not sure if he will be ready to start next year as many hope but I am sure he will be successful down the road.

They more than likely will not be the same weight in college.

Well, I was wrong on that one but I'm still real excited about Marinelli. Hall is another one of those freak talents that short of some freak occurrence will be a multiple time NCAA champ. I think AM has the skill and strength to be a stud as well but hopefully he is not at the same weight as Mark Hall his whole career.

Hall is slick and the Bull is true to his name. I thought he was going to get the take down right at the start. He was getting to the leg and Hall just knew what to do and had a few of the tricks. Marinelli seemed to be the one pushing the action and Hall was reacting and doing it well. The optional start brain lapse cost Marinelli big. I think there were some learning points in this match for him for sure. Now the waiting game to see where they both fall weight wise in College.

I doubt they will be at the same weight in college.

Manville is a good wrestler with good positioning, but I don't know that I have seen that much improvement out of him over the years. I not sure where he will fit in at PSU.

Manville very solid (obvious understatement) and difficult to score on but doesn't have a great deal of offense. Hopefully that will improve after a couple years in the PSU room.

I'll freely admit I'm biased but AM was in DEEP at least three times. Hall scored 8 points off that brain lapse of an optional start by AM. You can say AM is a full step behind Hall but I don't think that's quite accurate. I'm not saying AM would beat him next time but I seriously doubt it'd be a major like it was tonight.

I would assume it depends on which weight Hall plans on wrestling in Freestyle. I would assume he is planning on 163 for now. If so, he won't be going any higher than 174 and may still do 165. I would assume Marinelli is a 165 for life, but you never know. Still, I would rather Iowa have a guy with a chance to take out Hall down the road. If it isn't Marinelli, I don't see anyone else doing so!

Looking at PSU's current roster, I am not sure 174 is there for Hall. Nickal doesn't exactly look like a huge 174. Nolf doesn't look like a big 157, although there have been rumors of him bumping up. 165 looks to be the weight that is wide open for Hall.

Marinelli was just as deep on a double leg two years against Hall. Same result.

Hall has moved beyond Marinelli. There was no contest in speed, agility, skill, or strength.

You don't think Nickal looks big?

Where does Vincenzo Joseph fit into all this?

The scary part is, when Hall committed to a move, he finished nearly all with relative ease. Mental lapse or not, that was very telling.
