the West will be stronger top to bottom than the East...
last season the cross division records were identical... (7-7)
this season there will be a total of 21 cross division games.

Iowa at Rutgers (W)
Wisconsin at Michigan State
Wisconsin at Michigan (W)
Minnesota at Penn State
Purdue at Maryland
Minnesota at Maryland (W)
Illinois at Rutgers (W)
Nebraska at Indiana (W)
Northwestern at Michigan State
Ohio State at Wisconsin (W)
Indiana at Northwestern (W)
Rutgers at Minnesota (W)
Illinois at Michigan (W)
Penn State at Purdue
Northwestern at Ohio State
Michigan State at Illinois
Iowa at Penn State (W)
Nebraska at Ohio State
Michigan at Iowa (W)
Maryland at Nebraska (W)
Purdue at Indiana (W)

I'm guessing 13-8 in favor of the West... but I am willing to concede it might be much more lopsided than that.

think about this... everybody in the media talked about how strong the East was last season.... but the East was only 7-7 against the West...

perception does not equal reality.

The top of the East played the bottom of the West and the top of the West played to bottom of the East. All that 7-7 proves is that the top of each division was better than the bottom of the other division. You really can't deny that the best teams in the East were better than the best teams in the West. That being said, the gap between the divisions is nowhere near as big as the media makes it sound.

last season:

Indiana beat Purdue
Ohio State beat Illinois
Nebraska beat Rutgers (W)
Ohio State beat Minnesota
Nebraska beat Michigan State (W)
Iowa beat Indiana (W)
Northwestern beat Penn State (W)
Wisconsin beat Maryland (W)
Iowa beat Maryland (W)
Michigan beat Minnesota
Penn State beat Illinois
Wisconsin beat Rutgers (W)
Michigan beat Northwestern
Michigan State beat Purdue

I'm curious how you cherry pick these games to make the East better than the West?

The best teams from the East did not play the best teams from the West other than Michigan/Northwestern and Iowa/MSU. Northwestern got shut out and lost by 30+. We lost to MSU. The bottoms are pretty similar (Minnesota/Illinois/Purdue and Indiana/Maryland/Rutgers), but the top favors the East. If I need to break down why MSU, OSU, and Michigan were better than Iowa, NW, and Wisconsin, then you're pretty clueless.

But what about PSU and Nebraska you say? They are both mediocre and disgusting football programs.

I have a hard time seeing Wisky beating both meat chicken and OSU this year

Never the less I have marked your words

I appreciated all the responses....

but... I would like to warn you all.... Michigan and Ohio State are not going to be all that good this year.... Michigan won't have an Iowa Quarterback leading their team... and Ohio State is replacing a lot of positions...

Michigan State has a new quarterback and so does Penn State....
I don't think these 4 teams will be weak.... its going to be very competitive, for sure...
but when it comes to playing the West....
I'm 100% convinced the West is much stronger this season...

see... the thing is.... there is not as big a gap from top to bottom as some might imagine...
you should know this when you hear people predicting North Dakota State and Rutgers beating Iowa.... if that was even possible.... then you have to concede its possible for Illinois to beat Michigan.... and so forth....

parity is a good thing... and I believe the Big Ten, from top to bottom, has lots of parity...

0-2- West vs. East
2-3-Current teams in west and East.
1-4-for the divisions Iowa was in at the time.

OP is making a bold statement with 2/3 of the inter-division games are being played in East Division stadiums. It would be impressive for the West if this year (as the past few years) ends up .500 between the divisions.

I thought Rudock was no good?
Michgan will be very good. And OSU is loaded with talent.

that is a very interesting stat.... the East has 14 home games against the West...
the West only has 7 homes against the East...

I wonder about these schedule makers sometimes....

but nevertheless....
last year in Big Ten Conference Games Only.... the Home team was 25-31.

no no.... look... I got in a big debate with Pat Harty about this at the beginning of last season... I said Jake Rudock was one of the best quarterbacks in the Big Ten... and the stats from 2014 bore that out...

and of course I feel justified for the great season Michigan had... and Rudock getting drafted...

think about this.... Michigan lost an NFL caliber quarterback.... I don't think they got anyone near his skill level..... you'll see.
~thanks

I would be shocked if Ohio state and Michigan are not the best in the big ten. Michigans d is top shelf and OSU just reloads. I would like to be wrong but I doubt it.

lol... prepare to be shocked...

look.... here is the thing... Michigan has to play against CJ Beathard and the Iowa Hawkeyes this season.... and Iowa has a better defense than Michigan.... much better.

and its not even close.

you've been reading too many articles from people who have absolutely no idea what they are talking about.

money has been a big reason for Ohio State's success in the past...
but listen to these words.... the times.... they are a changing...

money no longer builds football players... and parity is growing fast in the Big Ten Conference.

You are clueless...Michigans D is exceptional. Iowa does have a good D...but to say they are "much better
than Michigan, and it's not close" is comical. I guess you just like to argue.

I give us a shot against Michigan in Iowa City this year. No doubt. But to say our defense is better than Michigans and it isn't even close is not a comment that lends any credibility to anything else you say.
As it relates to Urban's success at OSU the only thing that is going to change is if he leaves. Say what you want about him he runs one hell of a program no matter where he has been so please inform us all of this grand insider info you have that would lead you to believe times are changing. The only thing that is changing is that it looks like Michigan is getting back in the mix again and the OSU vs Michigan rivalry is back....bad news for MSU frankly.
Don't get me wrong, if Iowa wins the west I would rather play Michigan than OSU. Michigan is still a little more smash mouth while OSU has incredible athletes.
Btw I have not been reading articles....I see what I see. I don't believe Michigan is a top 1-5 team in the country yet but they are going to be damn good.

Have a Michigan buddy that stays as close to that program as you can and from what I am hearing there is no clear starter at QB. So O'Korn may not even be playing let alone dazzling.
everybody has a buddy that knows more than anyone else. what you really are saying is, i dont know shit but i will pretend i know someone who does.

No what I am saying is that people on the Michigan premium site still don't know who the starting QB is so I sincerely doubt you do.

I don't know shit about the subject other than what I said. You got that part right. But I am guessing you are right there with Harbaugh having sleep overs with high school kids. Hope you get lucky so you aren't so angry.

last season Iowa gave up 153 points in Conference Play...
Michigan gave up 168 points...
therefore Michigan has a better defense than Iowa?

last season Iowa recovered 7 fumbles and intercepted 12 passes in Conference Play...
Michigan recovered 1 fumble and had 5 interceptions...
therefore Michigan has a better defense than Iowa?

not to mention Michigan lost 2 games in Big Ten Play...

how in the world.... look... I want to be nice here... but...
its my opinion... that Iowa had a better defense than Michigan last season...
and Iowa's defense is going to be much better this coming season...

you all better hold on to your hat.

Your total points argument doesn't hold water. Over 80 points that Michigan gave up wasn't two games. One was against Ohio State which we were lucky enough not to have to play and the other one was to Indiana in two overtimes. We gave up 27 to Indiana in regulation. If you look at the other head-to-head games of teams that Michigan and Iowa both played their defense outperformed our defense.
We have a very good defense I just happen to think Michigan has a better defense

that is the point, i didnt claim to know or base a comment on what alot of other people, who also dont know said. and since when is trolling having a different opinion on a subject then what you say?

Not arguing with your overall point, however; giving up 27 points to Indiana is not uncommon nor bad. Indiana offense was very very very good. That also makes your argument contradicting considering Indiana scored 41 points on Michigan and lost in overtime. OSU gave up 27 and MSU gave up 26, FYI

You are correct Sir. The West is 1-4 against East in CCG.

Unless I am missing something there have only been 5 conference championship games.

Wisconsin beat Michigan State West 1-0
Wisconsin beat Nebraska. Both west teams so doesn't count
Michigan State beat Ohio State. Both East teams so doesn't count.
Ohio State beat Wisconsin. 1-1
Michigan State beat Iowa. East is up 2-1.

You missed my point. Nowhere did I say our point total was bad. All I referenced was Michigan gave up more (i thing 14 more) and that was driven by two OTs. I agree with indianas offense. Very good. So Michigan had two "bad" games defensively. One to a really good offensive team in Indiana and another to OSU who we did not play. The other poster wanted to compare points and I am saying that is a flawed argument.

Northwestern

Iowa won 40-10

Michigan State

this is a classic case of "cherry picking"
the problem is....
Iowa plays a particular style of defense.... bend but don't break..
the goal is to win the game...
and during the regular season.... when push came to shove.. Iowa's defense got the job done.

Michigan's defense failed.... not once... but twice....
Michigan's defense was not strong enough when it counted.
------------

this is why I believe Iowa's defense was better last season... and because of all the returning starters from last years defense is why I believe Iowa will have a much better defense than Michigan this year.

So far you've shown nothing to support "Iowas defense is much better and it's not even close." You obviously are not very smart.
