Mark My Words...

It'll be okay. You disagree, that's fine, but no reason to be a mouth-breather. I watched the video several times before I responded, so no, I am not blind. I have played and watched thousands of hours of football in my life, so I think I have a damn good grasp of what is and what is not normally called throughout a game. Josey was pushed from the front/side, not from behind. Because the blocker engaged, he had to slip off the block and simultaneously reach out for Scott, which at one point, he had his lead arm around. His trailing arm was momentarily hooked by the lineman (the only contact the lineman had until after Josey fell to the ground), something that happens on the majority of run plays. Because of that, he had to dive for Scott, making it look like a hard tackle after he collided with Niemann. Could you call that a hold? You sure could (although there would be a lot more people PO'd about that than a no call), but to call it blatant, horrible no-call is downright laughable.

Also, the whole argument is moot if five guys don't miss the tackle.

I'm not one for excuses, but the Michigan State lineman literally grabbed ahold of Jewell's arm and dragged him to the ground. Jewell only had one arm available to make a play on the ball carrier. It was a pretty blatant hold, and that gets called the vast majority of the time (7-8 times out of 10).

Bottom Line: You are clueless or a troll or both.

I've watched the video several times and I'm still not convinced it was even a hold.
Was it a hold? Probably. Was it the most blatant hold in the last decade as someone suggested? No and to suggest that pretty much tells me you don't really watch a lot of football. I doubt it was even the most blatant hold on that drive let alone in the last decade. What a stupid comment.

2:20:00 mark: This will give you multiple angles to see the play. The aerial view is crystal clear. If you still think it wasn't a blatant hold, you don't understand football and shouldn't be posting here.

140:00 puts you smack dab in the 3rd quarter. 2:21:20 is the aerial view and I don't remember watching that last year but I have now. I'm convinced it was a hold. Still wasn't the most blatant hold in the last decade. Lots of other games out there besides Iowa you should watch them. Actually what should have been called on that play was a false start on the lineman that was in the fullback position. He clearly jumped early.

And if understanding football was a prerequisite for posting on this board it would be a much smaller group around here.

Yeah, my phone was showing me a different time for some reason (it has been corrected). That being said, I'm glad that you realized you were wrong. BTW, I said ONE OF the most blatant holds in the last decade, which is accurate. The hold was obvious to anyone with 20/20 vision that has just a little bit of football knowledge, which you apparently do not.

Well "one" of the most blatant holds is still incorrect. Incorrect to anyone who actually watches a few other games than Iowa and isn't still butt hurt over the loss. I've moved on.

But I will add your last sentence to HR's hall of fame of snappy come backs and zingers. Good one!

The lineman's arm was across his chest. It was not grabbing his arm. It was restraining his trailing arm, but he definitely wasn't grabbing it. Start at 00:27 and you'll see that is the only contact the lineman is making with Josey until both were on the ground. He would have to be the strongest lineman in the world to drag Josey mf Jewell to the ground with only one arm, unless *gasp*, Josey was diving for Scott at the time to make it look like a tackle.

That call does not happen the vast majority of the time, otherwise there would've been a hold call on 90% of plays on that drive. You definitely strike me as one of those people who only watches the ball and rarely watches what goes on in the trenches.

The fact that you think the view at the 27 second mark shows anything is comical. The offensive lineman is completely concealed behind Jewell at that time and you can't see anything. Furthermore, it definitely isn't outside the realm of possibilities that the OL could have dragged Jewell to the ground- he outweighs him by 70 pounds, and Josey was also making contact with Scott at the same time.

You strike me as one of those people who coaches Jr. High/JV football, so you think you know everything about football. The reality is, however, that you know nothing more than the average fan, you just have a sense of self-importance because you "watch what goes on in the trenches." Hell, you're probably one of those morons that wears receiving gloves to the cold games.

The fact of the matter is, that should have been a hold, it was fairly obvious, and no, that does not happen on the vast majority of plays. Pull your head out of your ass and actually watch some high level football every once in a while- it's a lot more fun to watch when you're not watching shitty 7th and 8th graders play from the sidelines.

We're wasting our time. He's just trolling, nobody can be that dumb.

First time I have ever watched the replay. Jewell was tackled. That was incredibly bad. I am going assume MSU still would have scored just to keep from being pissed off.

I used to blame the refs alot. I still do sometimes. I always wondered why the B1G, and everywhere really, couldn't find competent refs. And then it hit me. It's harder than it looks. They can't see everything. They only have to have their eyes in another direction for a second or two and miss it.
It sucks but it happens to everyone. And probably in every game. So why you all are arguing about it months after the fact, IDK. Carry on.

This is absolutely true. They still screwed that one up. Only they know if they saw it and swallowed the whistle. Have to admit, that one would have been tough to miss. Totally plausible though.

It was either a no-call or a clipping. I don't see a hold there. The initial block was 100% clean (or as clean as most blocks will be) with them basically facing each other on contact. The only thing that stopped Jewell from sliding off and making the tackle was #75 basically falling on Jewell's legs. You can see the legs buckle and then he falls.

I think that clipping was the correct call, but more times than not, that play isn't going to get called for anything.

Don't tell anybody else that, they will call you a troll because they can't accept the fact that their opinion is not fact.

So many mouth-breathers in one thread. Clearly it was not fairly obvious as there are as many people that have seen a blatant hold as people who saw a weak hold/no hold. I suppose I wouldn't know that though cause I'm just some lowly 20 year old coaching junior high football for a living LOL

Apparently, you are incorrect. Jewell fell on his own. #75 had nothing to do with it. :)

Truth. Josey is such a puss. Lineman doesn't even drag him to the ground and he goes down. I knew there was a reason Iowa never put him at running back.

Am I the only one that noticed Scott actually ran around until time expired, and then took a knee at the 50? Funny how everybody just takes their opinion that he crossed the goal line as fact.

Real wise of you to compare something that can be proven as fact to something that is a judgement call. Lol Grade A logic right there, keep up the good work everybody!!

A whole lot of "WTF" in this statement. Iowa got the ball back with 27 seconds left. I don't even know where to go with LJ Scott took a knee at the 50. I thought maybe you meant the 5 but nope....I'm confused but I'll admit that doesn't take a lot.

He didn't. It's a joke. He obviously did not run to the fifty and take a knee. He clearly scored. Kind of similar to how obvious the hold was...

I fully understood the exaggeration, but it would've been wise to at least have a resemblance of a comparison. Stupid is as stupid does though lmao (See, I can be a big internet tough guy too)

I'm routing hard for you!!

If we were in a spelling bee you win. Unfortunately we are on a football message board where knowing more about football comes off as more important. After your hissy fit about LJ Scotts TD being one of the most blatant holds in the last decade of football it proves you don't really watch much football. Therefore you probably know very little. So I win. However, if we were keeping track of spelling and grammar, you would be ruler of the message board. Plus you have really good come backs. I mean legendary shit you got going on with that router stuff.
