WHO: #20 Stanford Cardinal (2-0)
WHEN: 1 PM CT, Saturday, November 9
WHERE: Carver-Hawkeye Arena (Iowa City, IA)
TV: BTN (Shane Sparks and Jim Gibbons)
STREAMING: foxsports.com/live
RADIO: Hawkeye Radio Network

#2 Iowa wrestling has its home opener for the 2024-25 season this afternoon, welcoming former Pac-12 squad Stanford to CHA. Surprisingly (at least to me), it's the first-ever meeting between Iowa and Stanford on the mat.

Unlike last week's dual at Oregon State, this dual meet is available on regular TV via BTN.

You can listen to a radio broadcast of the dual meet here:

Iowa lineup:

125: Joey Cruz OR #31 Kale Petersen
133: #7 Drake Ayala
141: #31 Ryder Block
149: #4 Kyle Parco OR Caleb Rathjen
157: #1 Jacori Teemer
165: #2 Michael Caliendo
174: #6 Nelson Brands
184: #9 Gabe Arnold
197: #2 Stephen Buchanan
285: #11 Ben Kueter

Looks like ASU transfer Jacori Teemer (and preseason #1 at 157) may be making his season (and Iowa) debut today.

Stanford lineup:

125: #10 Nico Provo
133: #23 Tyler Knox
141: Aiden Valencia OR Jack Consiglio
149: #12 Jaden Abas OR EJ Parco
157: Grigor Cholakyan
165: #7 Hunter Garvin OR Zach Hanson
174: #17 Lorenzo Norman
184: #27 Luke Duthie
197: #17 Nick Stemmet
285: Jackson Mankowski

The highlight match of the dual looks like 165, with #2 Michael Caliendo possibly facing #7 Hunter Garvin. That match is also a homecoming for Garvin, who was at Iowa City West as a prep.

149 also looks like a good potential matchup with #4 Parco possibly facing #12 Abas. Parco and Abas have a lot of history from when Parco was at ASU; they've wrestled four times previously with Parco winning all four matches. That weight could also see a family battle with Kyle Parco taking on his little brother, EJ Parco, who is a freshman at Stanford.

133, 174, 184, and 197 could also see matches between ranked wrestlers.

Iowa looks to be favored at least 8 weights (all but 125, where Stanford should be favored, and 141, which looks like more of a tossup), and should be heavy favorites at several of those weights with real opportunities at bonus points.

Stanford did beat Iowa State 23-21 in a dual last night.

I'll be posting results here and on Twitter/X.
