**** Men's NCAA Tournament ****

To “expect”? No. But I don’t look at things in the rear view mirror. I think chances are very good that we make a sweet 16 run in the next 2-3 years. I’m very high on the freshmen class as well as Dix. Sandfort should have a great senior year.

I get why people want Fran fired. I just don’t see it likely producing a better result than what I already expect. I try to keep emotions out of it.
Nope. Gotta play defense to get to the Sweet Sixteen. Not going to happen under Fran.

**** OFF, Wisconsin!

YOU SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!

Utah St and grand Canyon looking good.
These schools find more athletic players than Iowa. I know Iowa is lily white state but what about Utah?
Exactly, Utah St flipped the entire roster and came up with quite a few good players.

For Fran to be holding onto guys like Mulvey makes no sense in today's world.

Grand Canyon has so much school spirit. . Could you even imagine something like this happening at Carver with Fran?

CSB I reffed Tyon Grant Foster in a summer camp when he was at Indian Hills. He was an athletic freak but didn’t see him getting to the level he is now. He’s turned into a beast this year.

Precisely. Freeman is the best interior defender that we’ve had since Woodbury and Dix is also very good. I also like Dembele’s ability to switch, rebound and block shots. Jettison PMac and Krikke and this is instantly a much better defensive team.
But none of that matters if the coach doesn't emphasize it.

I would love to see Fran bench a player for a defensive breakdown. Never happens.

I think great coaches teach great defense. Obviously that’s not Fran. But if you have the right players then they are going to take pride in their defense as well. If you looked at the Woodbury/Gessel/Clemmons years we played pretty good defense because those guys took pride in it. I’m hopeful we have the same attitude in the younger guys.

exactly...ISU also contrasts with Iowa. The roster makeup is a Fran thing. He either is very unappealing as a recruiter of African Americans or he makes conscious effort to build his roster with guys that look like what he sees at his dinner table a home or both,

All the player's supposedly love Fran, but you really can't go by what they say on Twitter when they leave the program. Nobody with brains burns bridges when they leave a situation, Fran's rosters have been mostly white his entire time at Iowa and that is opposite of the makeup of college basketball/elite basketball players.

Seems like Fran has difficult time recruiting African Americans. Even the more recent recruits like Dimbele and the guy from Canada did not grow up in American culture and maybe that is why they came to Iowa when Fran otherwise struggles to recruit and retain non-caucasian players.

You can win with a core Iowa group, but you do have to recruit African Americans from metropolitan centers if you want to do better than little bit over 0.500 in B1G and DOA in NCAA tourney.

JMU is the real deal - one of he upsets I had penciled it. Got screwed with Auburn today though

James Madison was an American statesman, diplomat, and Founding Father who served as the 4th president of the United States (from 1809 to 1817).

Madison was popularly acclaimed the "Father of the Constitution" for his pivotal role in drafting and promoting the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights.

I applaud James Madison and James Madison University.

If James Madison were alive today he would join us all by saying F*** Wisconsin!

If there's a team out there that knows all about holding, hacking, and not letting the guys their guarding move without at least one hand on them - its Wisconsin.

Wisconsin does the slow twitch hack using their legs to bump and body the ball handler to impede progress and of course the Flop.

JM used fast twitch hacks that were to quick for the Refs to see.

Watching ISU play defense in 1st game..basically all you need is 4 or 5 guys that are ultra quick to double team ball handler and quick enough to recover and still get out on open guy if a dude is able to pass out of a double team. You can't play guys like Krikke or PMAC at all.. Also the guys have to want to play defense, not think of it as a side hustle because the coach doesn't give much of a chit.

Except for George Raveling, what Iowa coach has had success recruiting more than a few black players on the roster at one time? Even Lute’s teams were predominantly white. ISU has NIL money and, frankly, much more recent success and tradition to sell, so I don’t think that’s a perfect comparison.

It's not a looks thing it's that Fran only likes guys who are already offensively polished.

He talks about it all the time. "We only recruit guys that move the ball" "We don't recruit guys that pound the ball" "We don't recruit turnover guys"

And obviously he loves shooting.

I think Fran goes to aau games and see a bunch of one on one iso and he hates it.

Those criteria eliminate a large cross section of players who end up being good.

Lute's best team that reached the Final Four doesn't sniff the tournament without Lester, Arnold, and Brookins. In games that Lester missed Iowa had a .500 record.

You shouldn't show your enthusiasm for next years team, there's some on here that can't see the trees through the forest or is it forest through the trees? Don't like Fran, our players aren't good enough or athletic enough, but Iowa beat Seton Hall, Wisconsin, Michigan St. Northwestern there, Nebraska all post season teams.
There's hope for next year for sure...

Isu has had majority black teams since Tim Floyd. And that's been consistent over the 6 or 7 coaches since.

Iowa has only had 4 coaches in that time and none of them have been good recruiters.

It's an example that you can recruit out of state to the state of Iowa with the right guy.

The administration at Iowa needs to put in more effort and money though.
