Michigan State has lost 4 of 5. Izzo is sick of the officiating.

I wouldn’t go that far, but I think our talent is comparable to everyone but Illinois and Purdue. Agree on the rest.

phased it incorrectly. Illinois and Purdue are clearly more talented than Iowa and the best two teams. Wisconsin is overachieving.

The rest of the upper 7 are comparable, but Iowa does have issues beating teams with true scoring bigs. MSU has a 6'11 shot blocker, but not much of an offensive player, so Iowa should match up pretty well with MSU.

In the Neb vs MD game on Friday the refs called 64 personal fouls, 33 on MD and 31 on NEB. Contrast his with Ill vs MSU. Seventeen called on Illinois and 20 on MSU. Izzo can bitch all he wants but he was treated fairly as I am sure some of the MSU fouls were an effort to catch up at the end. When the fouls are pretty even it shows impartiality by the refs. Some of the calls are judgement calls but timing has a great deal to deal with the criticism.

FYI = Today Iowa was called for 20 fouls and OSU 17.

True but this is why I think Big Ten teams sometimes struggle in the tournament. This game isn't football but it's played that way in our conference for some reason.
It’s played that way in most power 5 conferences, especially late in the season. Go watch how physical the top SEC games are right now. It’s crazy. Refs swallow their whistles later in the season.

Crispin brought this up the other night.

He said Iowa was one of a few teams that actually benefits when it gets to play outside the B1G, in postseason, because the game is called differently and the 'style' of officiating in the tournament is very different there than in conference play.

I remember that. I would agree.

I guess I've been watching more Pac 12, mostly to put myself to sleep with their teams with losing records. (Seriously, Oregon St. played at Arizona St and it was on national TV. The win for ASU MIGHT put them at 10 wins now? Oregon St. has three, THREE total wins)

They get tons of touch/ reaching fouls.

I do agree on the SEC and Big East games. ACC doesn't look like it's called that way but the ACC doesn't look good either.

yet we can't get past the damn 1st round......

Nah, Larry Scrotum worries me more. He's taken over the lap dog status of Izzo from TV Teddy since the big ten stopped hiring him to do games because he sucks at his job.
I think both adequately suck at their part time jobs. And you can tell by the smirk on their faces after the confrontation with the coach they enjoy sticking it to whoever the coach of choice is.

Just because the fouls called are somewhat equal does not mean there is impartiality. Take a look at the last Iowa v Rutgers game. That was one of the most physical games. Rutgers could have been called for a foul every possession. Fouls called 16 on Iowa and 15 on Rutgers.

Lack of fouls called favor physical teams. More fouls called favor finesse teams in general. The only time your theory may hold up is when you have 2 teams that are both playing physical or finesse at the same time.

This. Even amount of fouls does not equate to an evenly called game.

You are totally clueless bud :)

I will just scroll right down here before reading any of this thread and say '**** izzo" as he has gotten the calls for decades and he whines and cries like a little baby.

But I have to say he learned from the best because I watched a lot of Jud Heathcote's antics in person at the old fieldhouse. He was, for some reason, given carte blanche to stand on the floor and direct his teams offense or defense during games. It was unbelievable what the refs let him get a way with with the clock running. And he was a cry baby with the refs.
One of my favorite moments was pre shot clock, MSU coming into the old field house with a team that did not match up well vs Iowa....so he proceeded to stall almost the entire game, and Lute played a zone and let him. The crowd in unison for much of the game was yelling "Heathcote Sucks, Heathcoate Sucks"...it was awesome and loud and the good guys won.

There is no other coach in college basketball that works over the officials as well as Izzo does. He pretty much neutralizes home court advantages for his team by working over the officials. He's very good at it and the officials respect him. So to hear him crying about the officiating is surprising and I don't think it's going to help him get any favors in Carver.

The refs already neutralize our advantage ;)

Well we must have lost those 3 games because of the refs. Or it was just to physical. 😏
Vs il 100%. Where was our home cooking vs mi? Didn't seem we got a noticable advantage.
Pu we just blew it, ill give you one...

Keep trying to defend the pitiful refs though ..
