Mt. McKinley becomes the newest conservative molehill

Maybe. But look at the Trump tax proposals.
Democrats would support it? Asking from ignorance. I would love to see more agreement from both sides. Unfortunately most of the time politicians are hypocrites and stick to the party line, even if they think the other side has a valid idea.

My guess is most democrats would support it.

The GOP is in a state of confusion because they just can't decide to keep going after Obama, who no longer gives a shit what they think, or Hillary and the e-mail thing. I do believe BO is truly TRYING to tork off the right. And he's succeeding brilliantly.

No one in this country believes any of the GOP are trying to help our nation. The secret became public knowledge when McConnell let it slip that the Republicans sole goal after the 2008 general election was to make sure Obama was a one term Prez. And when they failed yet again on another goal... they became entrenched in the idea that their next goal was to make every effort to try and tarnish his second tem by becoming the Party of No.

Pretty easy to see why the voting public hates the GOP in Presidential elections. That's why even a "damaged" Hillary likely still beats any chump the Republicans put on the ballot. Fox News knows this, Rove/Limbaugh/Hannity know this, and Priebus knows this.
Your post assumes that Hillary gets on the ballot. She may be indicted before next November.

Your post assumes that Hillary gets on the ballot. She may be indicted before next November.

She won't be as there is no evidence of any crimes being committed. Keep believin' in the wingnut echo chamber propaganda though!:

Does Hillary Clinton have a serious legal problem because she may have transmitted classified information on her private e-mail server? After talking with a half-dozen knowledgeable lawyers, I think this “scandal” is overstated. Using the server was a self-inflicted wound by Clinton, but it’s not something a prosecutor would take to court.

“It’s common” that people end up using unclassified systems to transmit classified information, said Jeffrey Smith, a former CIA general counsel who’s now a partner at Arnold & Porter, where he often represents defendants suspected of misusing classified information.

“There are always these back channels,” Smith explained. “It’s inevitable, because the classified systems are often cumbersome and lots of people have access to the classified e-mails or cables.” People who need quick guidance about a sensitive matter often pick up the phone or send a message on an open system. They shouldn’t, but they do.

“It’s common knowledge that the classified communications system is impossible and isn’t used,” said one former high-level Justice Department official. Several former prosecutors said flatly that such sloppy, unauthorized practices, although technically violations of law, wouldn’t normally lead to criminal cases.

Clinton’s use of a private e-mail server while she was secretary of state has been a nagging campaign issue for months. Critics have argued that the most serious problem is possible transmission of classified information through that server. Many of her former top aides have sought legal counsel. But experts in national-security law say there may be less here than it might appear.

Takeaways from Hillary Clinton’s private e-mails

Clinton has come under fire for using a private e-mail during her time as secretary of state. The e-mails are being screened and released in batches. Here are some things we’ve learned from them.
First, experts say, there’s no legal difference whether Clinton and her aides passed sensitive information using her private server or the official “state.gov” account that many now argue should have been used. Neither system is authorized for transmitting classified information. Second, prosecution of such violations is extremely rare. Lax security procedures are taken seriously, but they’re generally seen as administrative matters.

Potential criminal violations arise when officials knowingly disseminate documents marked as classified to unauthorized officials or on unclassified systems, or otherwise misuse classified materials. That happened in two cases involving former CIA directors that are cited as parallels for the Clinton e-mail issue, but are quite different. John Deutch was pardoned in 2001 for using an unsecured CIA computer at his home to improperly access classified material; he reportedly had been prepared to plead guilty to a misdemeanor. David Petraeus pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor in April for “knowingly” removing classified documents from authorized locations and retaining them at “unauthorized locations.” Neither case fits the fact pattern with the Clinton e-mails.

Clinton defended herself Aug. 18 with a carefully worded statement: “I did not send classified material, and I did not receive any material that was marked or designated classified.” Those may sound like weasel words, but they actually go to the heart of what might constitute a criminal case.

What happens in the real world of the State Department? Smith takes the hypothetical example of an assistant secretary who receives a classified cable from, say, Paris, about a meeting with the French foreign minister and wants quick guidance from the secretary. So he dashes off an e-mail — rather than sending a classified cable that would be seen by perhaps a dozen people.

“Technically, he has taken classified information and put it onto an unclassified system,” Smith said. “It’s the same as picking up a telephone and talking about it. It’s not right. But the challenge of getting the secretary’s attention — getting guidance when you need it — is an inevitable human, bureaucratic imperative. Is it a crime? Technically, perhaps yes. But it would never be prosecuted.”

Informal back channels existed long before e-mail. One former State Department official recalled the days when most embassies overseas had only a few phones authorized for secret communications. Rather than go to the executive office to make such a call, officers would use their regular phones, bypassing any truly sensitive details. “Did we cross red lines? No doubt. Did it put information at risk? Maybe. But, if you weren’t in Moscow or Beijing, you didn’t worry much,” this former official said.

Back channels are used because the official ones are so encrusted by classification and bureaucracy. State had the “Roger Channel,” named after former official Roger Hilsman, for sending secret messages directly to the secretary. The Joint Chiefs of Staff had a similar private channel. CIA station chiefs could send communications known as “Aardwolves” straight to the director.

Clinton to media: Nobody talks to me about e-mails besides you
Play Video2:43
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton responded to reporters in Las Vegas on Tuesday over the controversy surrounding her personal e-mail server. Clinton reiterated that she did not send or receive any classified material from her personal account. (AP)
Are these channels misused sometimes? Most definitely. Is there a crime here? Almost certainly not.

Wasn't this name change originated in Alaska by citizens and politicians there? I can hardly wait until Obama takes last season's Football National Championship away from The Ohio State.........he won't consult Congress on that one, either. ;)
Now THAT will really piss'em off!

It would be FSU's title from 2013. We are the only title team not invited to the Whitehouse in modern history.

I said it in the other thread and I'll say it here. Alaska officially restored the original name forty years ago and has been pushing the feds to do the same ever since. Now that has occurred. So now the Ohio legislature can do what Alaska did - change the official name in Ohio to McKinley.

I hope he changes the Washington DC airport name back to it's original name. Which was "Washington National Airport" aka "National."

And I'd like to see Cape Canaveral go back to Cape Kennedy.

Those earlier changes (to strip Kennedy of his due recognition for his role in America's space program and to glorify Reagan) were pissy partisan moves. They deserve to be undone.
Pissy partisan moves? Republicans actually went about changing the name of National Airport the way it's supposed to be done. It was approved by both houses of Congress and was signed into law by Bill Clinton.

The Kennedy Space Center is still named after the late President, a fitting tribute to his support of the space program. The only thing that changed back to its original name was the ground on which it sits. That area has been known as Cape Canaveral since the early days of the Spanish explorers, some 400 years ago. LBJ issued an executive order changing both the space center and the land in honor of JFK. The Florida legislature changed the name of just the land back to its original name about 10 years later.

Why are you pretending that it's the procedure that determines is they are pissy partisan moves? It isn't. Lots of pissy partisan things get done through proper procedures.

Are you trying to say that Obama broke the law in this instance? If so, lay out the case. If not, what's your point?

No, I'm not saying Obama broke the law. Frankly I don't really care whether it's called Denali or Mt. McKinley. It's wayyy down my list of concerns.

With regard to Reagan National Airport, if it was pissy partisan politics then why did roughly half of the Democrats in the Senate vote yes? Why did a Democratic President sign the bill into law? My point is that there is a proper procedure for things like this and the GOP followed that procedure. It's not as if GHWB or GWB issued an executive order unilaterally changing the name of the airport.

And why does it piss you off that Florida changed the name of the land from Cape Kennedy back to Cape Canaveral? The space center still bears JFK's name. Why isn't that enough?

The current character assassination saga currently taking place proves the GOP/Fox News are seriously either scared shitless that Hillary will be on the ballot or trying every conceivable avenue to make sure she isn't on the ballot. There is no other sane excuse to have all this crap in the news a whole year ahead of the nomination process.
I also suspect they have more stuff in their bag of tricks if nothing materializes with the-mail thingy. Pure political reality show stuff.

Don't blame Obama because he has good taste in who he invites to his house. I'm sorry, you won't get much sympathy from me regarding perhaps the dirtiest college FB program in the nation, year in and year out. The real "dogs" reside in Tallahassee.
I have a neighbor who used to teach at FSU....he tells stories (academic) that would embarrass even the most blind Seminole.

If a Republican wins the Presidency in 2016, then this
Alaskan Mountain top will be named Mt. Palin. A lot
of guys want to climb her. This would revive the art
of mountain climbing.
And snowcapped it..

To be fair, most schools are probably jealous of the National Championship FSU won. But I doubt from that point on most schools are jealous of what headlines the FSU football team are generating. It's either theft, assault, players getting dismissed, etc. It's been pretty negative for them the last 12 months.

What can you expect from a team who has a coach named "Jimbo"? ;)

We've been under a microscope and unfairly targeted by the media for a long time. The truth is FSU is by far one of the cleanest major programs in the country. Anyone claiming otherwise is either lying or ignorant, and that is a cold hard fact.

I agree Bobby Bowden had things under control. Unfortunately Jimbo hasn't shared the same success as Bowden did in keeping his players in check. And FSU is under a microscope because they placed themselves there (or rather Winston did) because of their negative actions time after time.

While Winston was being drug through the mud by the media, numerous other schools had far worse issues than cussing in a stairwell and getting a hookup at the grocery store. Both of which he was suspended for. We have to be the only school in history to suspend a player for cussing. ESPN had 43 people staying in Tallahassee trying to dig up dirt. Meanwhile Ufs QB raped a girl then threatened her and they bought her off to keep quite. The UFPD redacted every single word of the report and they got a total pass by the media.

FSU has gone out of its way on numerous occasions to self report and cooperate with the NCAA and gotten nothing but screwed for it.

Jimbo is a man of great character and has demonstrated that. I have a big problem with those who would say otherwise.

No, FSU did not bring it on itself. Those who claim that aren't paying attention, or as I said before are simply lying.

I am a Republican and I don't give a damn what anyone calls a mountain or that the name of said mountain is officially changed. The flap over this is like milking mice--lots of activity and nothing to show for it. Lets move on

Are you trying to say that Obama broke the law in this instance? If so, lay out the case. If not, what's your point?

There are two laws [acts of Congress - one signed by Woodrow Wilson, the other by Carter] that named the park and mountain after McKinley. Executive orders cannot void laws inacted by Congress. It's sort of implicite in the Constitution. EOs can facilatate, but not subvert, duly enacted laws. So I'd say he acted illegally.

Personally I don't care if the mountain's name is restored to Denali. I do care that Obama continues to exercise executive powers in an illegal way.

We have to be the only school in history to suspend a player for cussing

This sentence alone is probably a good indication that your FSU colored glasses won't actually allow you to view these situations without a biased manner. He wasn't suspended for just cussing. He was suspended for jumping onto a table in the middle of the Student Union and yelling "F Her Right in the Pu**y". That's different than him saying it in his apartment behind closed doors. Not to mention it probably would have slipped through the cracks if he wasn't accused of sexual assault and theft before that incident.

Back to my original statement that I wish Iowa had 50% of the talent that FSU throws out on the field and I sure as hell wish we won a NC. But I wouldn't want our student athletes conducting themselves the way FSU athletes have over the last 24 months regardless if it meant a NC or not.

Prime example of media mudslinging.

He wasn't in the middle of the student union standing on a table. He was in a stairwell. He didn't yell either. Only a handful of students witnessed it and they all though it was funny. The claim that he got on a table and yelled is a flat out lie, but it makes a better story than the truth, which simply wasn't that big a deal.

What you probably don't realize is that you have the same stuff going on at your school. All schools do to some degree. However Iowa isn't under the microscope that FSU is and can pretty much handle everything in house without the media being all over it.

Or maybe the news you were watching played it down. Here are tweets that went out on 09/16/2014 describing the incident from students that were there. Some of them say #gonoles after them, some laugh it off, etc. I would probably laugh at it too. The problem is some may not find it funny to degrade females (AFTER BEING ACCUSED OF SEXUAL ASSULT) the way he did. I see nothing about a stairwell and these are from students who witnessed it first hand

Oh, it's on the internet so it must be true.

First, he was falsely accused of sexual assault.

Second, I have been told it was in a stairway from someone who was actually there. I'm not basing it off some twatter account.

LOL!!! I'm sure it was a coincidence that those 5 people all tweeted the same thing. I'm sure they were paid off by ESPN to put that on their Twitter feed to make FSU look bad . I bet ESPN even paid off the guy giving free crab legs to Famous Jameis too. Was ESPN filming when De'Andre Johnson punched that girl in the face? I know you'll argue it was self defense for him as you did in that previous thread but the fact remains trouble sure seems to follow FSU around off the field.

Look I get it, you're an FSU homer. That's fine. You can defend all things FSU until you're finally buried at sea or strapped to a kite and flown away. I don't really care. My original response was that most schools while jealous of the talent you have on the field and the NC you recently won, most probably aren't real jealous of the "off-field" instances that have been happening (rather true or not) at FSU.

And with that, I bid you adieu as I'm obviously not debating with someone that are viewing these FSU situations on unbiased terms.

kiting....then define "a dirty program" for me?
FSU might be clean but it is surrounded by enablers. I can't think of a more clouded major FB program in America in the past 20 years than FSU....unless it might be Miami.

What enablers? Sorry but the witchunt set out by the NYT and TMZ was the exact opposite of reality. The TPD and SAO have a long history of being extremely hard on our athletes. FSU has a long history of punishing or removing athletes that are a problem. FSU kicked Randy Moss out along with a list of 5 star players.

If anything FSU is too hard on it's players. Enablers, my ass.
