NBA Combine: Wieskamp's Draft Stock Rising, Dominates in Scrimmages. Luka SITS OUT w/ Groin Injury. Joe had 42" (Luka 29.5") Max Vertical Jump

Elite defense.

What Iowa is known for, of course. ;)

Joe's wing span seems to check out.

Joe had 26 today and what’s messed up about that is is that the guards could gave dished Joe at least 10 more points, probably more with the way Joe was shooting. Joe sat out on the 3 line for open threes, but he wasn’t thrown the ball. He could have had 40 easy.

When Karl delivered the mail, it stayed delivered! Still sits as the second all-time scorer in the NBA, but should be passed by LeBron next year. No one else playing today is even close to these top scorers.

I don't think there is any doubt in Luka's claim that he is the best-shooting big man in the draft.

It's just too bad he was not able to show off during the scrimmages like Joe did.

Chad is very high on Joe Wieskamp post combine.

Could Joe go FIRST ROUND?

As you will read,

In a league so hungry for shooters that Corey Kispert is a likely lottery pick, Wieskamp made his case at the combine for why he should be a first round pick too. His Game 2 performance (26 points, 10 rebounds, 3 steals, 6-for-7 from 3) made scouts wonder whether he’s just been overshadowed by big man Luka Garza for the past few years.

He’s got excellent size and length for a wing, tested as one of the top athletes in the draft, and was one of the big standouts in the 5-on-5 games at the combine. He’s younger, longer, and more athletic than Kispert, and when you compare their numbers statistically adjusted for pace, they’re very similar. I think Wieskamp made the move from the 45-to-undrafted range into a legit 25-to-40 prospect in the draft.

If he can stay mostly healthy, KD will get to the top 10, outside shot at top 5, thought that will be tough. Right now he's about 2 full seasons from the top 15, and that's adjusting for not playing a full 82 games and scoring below his career average.

6'11 wingspan and 42 inch vertical?

Are you kidding me?

Im having trouble reconciling that with the lack of impressive dunks relative to those measurements.

JA Marant's vertical is 42 and he looks like he's jumping off a trampoline.

Zions is only 45.

42 inch vertical should put you head level with the rim at 6'5

I never saw anything remotely close to that from Joe.
Maybe its standard in the NBA combine (i have no idea), but normally when referring to vertical, most are referencing a standing number. The 42" was a 'max vertical' i.e. a running start.
Just in case we're comparing apples to oranges.

Yes, I realize that. They measure both but any discussion in reference to vertical I just assume is using standing. I failed to notice the "max" part.

Clearly anyone who's watched any basketball could see JW is not a 42 inch vert guy. Thus my skepticism of the number.

Kinda looks like Frank is doing the full court sales press right now after Luka had to pull out of the combine and tested poorly in the drills. I wish the big guy the best and hope at least one team looks at him as a a unique individual, who can't be summed up by workout numbers.

I'm looking forward to hearing the 54th and 58th picks in the draft this year

yeah, its a shame Luka was not able to shine in those 2 scrimmages

Joe's gonna get drafted. Are you on the band wagon yet?

Almost wonder now if coming back to college for his last year would be his best move? Maybe solidify a 1st round pick and move up a little higher in the round? He could end up being one of the top shooting guards available. I think that would be better than being a 2nd rounder this year but at least he is proving a lot of people wrong. Good to see.

Lol, that is the worst decision he could make

Unfortunately, no. His stock will not improve with another year at Iowa. Joe needs to strike while the iron's hot.
