Nelson?

Nelson is the only one who knows this answer…. And he may not even know yet.

I hope he comes back and allows Gabe to red shirt and hone his skills even more and hopefully roll around with his cousin everyday if ya catch my drift…
We have some holes - I would think a combo of gabe, nelson, and Assad would be needed next year from 75->97.

I have no doubts that Starocci will be back. His ego is too big to not be the one and only 5 timer in history and the future.
If he doesn’t reach 4, he might bolt unless PSU drops another bag of dough on him, which they very well might. If he does reach 4, I agree — he’s likely to stay just to be the only 5-timer ever.

Nelson was shooting very effectively and seemed to lose the fear of getting countered. He has to have a lot of confidence after the tourney that it was sustainable and not a fluke. Gotta come back for 1 more.

Really not a fan of starocci BUT walking out to Michael Meyers theme song then committing a massacre of labs was pretty sick.

Props to Nelson for an excellent tournament. Looked more like his freshman self out there this weekend. Not sure how much his health vs. brain played into it, but he stepped up and scored points. Good for him.

one thing i was surprised by with nelson was how he completely out scrambled askren’s guy mocco on the backside.
I’ve only ever watched Mocco wrestle 1 match in my life and that was his match against Nelson. My take away was how is this guy a D1 wrestler let alone an AA? He literally did nothing and really didn’t try to fight off Nelson’s tds.

Mocco tends to gas quite a bit. Not a good trait on the back side vs Nelson.

I find it hard to believe Carl won’t find a way to use all of his eligibility. There was talk of RBY leaving early and I think a lot of us thought we’d believe it when we saw it. Of course, he came back.

One of the advantages of having virtually limitless funds is that you can make it a whole lot more attractive for guys like RBY and Starocci to stay. I fully expect him to be in their lineup until his eligibility is done. Maybe not for a run at the 5th national title (if I’m not mistaken, with the extra COVID year he’s the only guy who could actually win 5), but at least through 4 NCAA tournaments.
He may be HES - Had enough school. That's a long time to at least pretend to give a damn about classwork. I do not know his story but I would think if MMA is in his future graduate work will take a back seat. Only so much time to make it in the cage.

Not a fan of him either. But, the guy is LEGIT. He is a bit under the radar, but he is sure looking like he is going to end up a 4xer with only 2 career losses. Altough Yianni just did that, with less fanfare than I expected, he did have a loss this year and barely squeeked by Max.

Meanwhile, Starocci looks to do it next year having not really had a truly competitive match since Mekhi and Kemerer before that. On top of that, he avenged that loss and has beat up on Washington several times since his only other loss. He also looked much further ahead of Mekhi at the All Star. Even if you hate him as a person, the guy is a MACHINE on the mat. Nearly impossible to take down, a leach on top and you can't ride him. He isn't quite Dake so far, but he is starting to get pretty close...

I've heard Askren say multiple times, O'Toole will eventually move up to 174. Question has been will it be his junior or senior year??
That could be the plan, I guess. I’ve got some friends that are pretty tight with him. He’ll have to put some weight on.
