I was wondering the same thing, but it has been mentioned on here it is too hard for Iowa given their inherent shortcomings. Also, that it was not fair to existing players.

So, it does not appear Iowa WBB is going to be able to capitalize on a generational talent in the next 1/2 years.

PS. Hope I am 100% wrong.

Yeah.... looks like Ediger is going to have to live up to her no. 39 ranking and get Mr. Miyagi to work on Goodman's knee. The Notorious AOG will be up to the task, IMO.

Actually they capitalized on their generational this year as No. 2 in the country isnā€™t too tacky.
Agreed, but they may have one maybe two more years to make something happen. But all indications are they are staying pat with the current roster/recruits. It is just my opinion that they needed another high quality 4/5 player from portal.

I base my concern IMO on the lack of progress in games this year of the bench 4/5's. Hopefully they will improve their shooting, ball handling, rebounding, confidence, and aggressiveness on the court. I just feel that is a lot to ask for in one off-season thus my concern.

Obviously, I hope I am wrong.

I actually agree with your take DewHawk but letā€™s not forget the success this past year. Of course we arenā€™t aware of everything the staff is doing . I would actually feel better about next year with some portal help ,at any position.

Will be interested to see how Spreen does in college. She was ranked early by ESPN in the top 25 for the class of 2024, but is no longer ranked in the ESPN top 60.

So disappointing that many Iowa fans think that the coaching staff is not trying to add a quality body to add to the team. One open scholarship and just a few viable adds at the right position. Still a chance to pick some help up but itā€™s not like we had 4 open slots to fill. Will we make another deep run with the current roster? Not sure but I would not put anything beyond Caitlin and crew.

Don't think I heard many people suggest that Bluder and staff weren't "trying" to land a major portal player. I feel confident they were assertively pursuing Betts and Morrow, and probably 3 or 4 others. (Maybe Lauren Ware, Lauren Gustin, Shay Bollin, etc.) The concern was more about Iowa's perceived inability to do so. But once you get down to the 5th/6th player on that list, there's a risk/reward issue. With just one spot, why add a portal player that won't have a major impact, take up the final roster spot, and risk losing a player or two to the portal. Gotta look at the whole roster over the next 2/3 years. Not being able to land that one difference-maker seems to have convinced Coach to focus on future recruits. And she's being pretty aggressive in targeting high-quality players that might normally have been outside Iowa's previous parameters.

How much do we know about how collectives are being marketed. I think one of the collectives is basically paying everone on the supported teams a set amount? This is great for most players, but may not be as competitive as one that pays the stars? On the other side, A case could be made that a huge disparity in pay for players could be toxic for team composition. I think we could see some supertams that just implode due to over NIL deals.

This is the best article I've seen discussing how Iowa's collective works for women's basketball: https://www.hawkcentral.com/story/s...clark-lisa-bluder-aneesah-morrow/70086449007/

I rly think weā€™re gonna be so much better than everyone is giving us credit for.
It will probably look different than what fans have become accustomed to without a Gustafson or Czinano in the middle. Interested to see lineups...big, small, does Bluder actually use the benchšŸ˜‚

Yes! As though an undersized post has never been successful. As though Bluder has somehow forgotten how to develop players. As tho Marshall and Martin arenā€™t integral parts to the offense and defense.

If you want to be better at the end of next year than last, I think you still need size. Stuelke is just going to struggle at the 5 against 6'5 posts. I think Ogrady/Goodman/Ediger combined can get there. There will likely be less offence from the 5, but could be better defenders. They will need more offence from Martin/Marshall. I think Martin has shown some skills, so that possible. Also if Mccabe/Davis improve that could also be big. I think Stuelke gets better over the break and with higher usage early in the year. The wild cards are probably Gyamfi and Fuerbach. We dont see a lot of high level play the first year back from a knee injury at Iowa, at least for women... so I'm not sure how long it will take Fuerbach to get back to where she was. Jayda just has not had the reps, looked a little more comfortable at the end of the year, and seemed to be getting into the games a little earlier.

It seems the portal/recruiting discussion has morphed into two different perspectives on this thread: 1: Will the Hawks still be a viable FF team this fall (and next, if CC stays) despite not adding a major portal player? To me, the answer is yes, without adding anyone, we're still going to be a major force this fall, and if CC stays, next year as well. But 2: Many of us were hoping that with the success/fame of this year's team, that we could attract the kind of big-time players (through the portal, or even in recruiting) that would help the Hawks build a consistent, national final four caliber team. Unfortunately, that hasn't yet happened; which might explain how some on this thread are bemoaning the lack of "striking while the iron is hot" in re: to having CC in the program. Coach B is pursuing some major recruits, but as yet, we haven't signed any of these potential stars. Currently, it does not look like we are going to compete in the realm of UCONN, LSU, SC, or Stanford, etc. Ongoing, with the recruits we have, we look like a team (beyond CC) that might still compete for a B1G chip, and maybe a sweet 16 appearance. Nothing wrong with that, and I'll still be a big fan, as always. But it will be rather sad that we couldn't take real advantage of a truly unique opportunity.

Can't figure this one out. Ware started two years ago for Arizona, sat out this season due to injury and all reports out of Arizona were positive about her rehab and how valuable she was to the team. She was very close to Cate Reese who wrapped up her stellar career with the Wildcats this season. Perhaps that played a factor. The program has risen to the the top 4 in the always tough Pac-12, played for a National Championship three seasons ago (losing to rival Stanford by 1 point) and has led the Pac12 in attendance the past two seasons. Heads to Texas A and M which finished 9-20 and 2-14 in league play.

Highest bidder. Period.
A&M just picked up another transfer from Oregon yesterday. One of the top available transfers and a former 5 star recruit that averaged 16 PPG last year who will join her third team in her career. Add to that Lauren Ware, a former 5 star recruit. Not too shabby for a team that didn't even win 10 games last year.

This article is pretty eye opening. This past season there was only one school in the sweet sixteen that didn't have at least one starter that was a transfer. Guess who.

Great post. People act like we didn't just do something we'd NEVER done before in the Iowa womens history, and play for a Natty. Getting back there again will be a monumental task, and take some breaks, no matter who they sign.

So your saying we did it the right way then? We did just play for the title, and 14 of those teams did NOT.....

Great post by JEDN and you. Lute, Vivian both Hall of Famers each took IOWA to final 4 neither made the final. I truly believe itā€™s harder now than then with more depth of talent, thank AAU, better coaching, and a broader commitment to the men and women's game at both the university and media level. I just hope this Wild Wild West of NIL doesnā€™t destroy it

No. 28 on ESPNw.
6'4" post from NY; has multiple offers, incl. UCLA and Ohio St. Looks like a teammate of hers committed to UCLA, so she doesn't seem all that likely for the Hawks. One has to wonder whether there is a perception that Iowa will not be a top team beyond Caitlin. On the other hand, as a post, she might (hopefully) be attracted to Iowa based on Coach J's success with molding great post players.

You're right, Iowa may have to show they're not a one hit wonder. They have maybe two more years of Clark to do so. These younger recruits see themselves as the next Clark's, etc..., it's just going out and getting them.

Think the ESPN Hoopgurlz listing is an alphabetical watch list at this point. Sheā€™s toward the bottom of the 29 listed because her last name begins with V.

Her recent offers include UCONN, South Carolina, Notre Dame and Stanford. May be the most heavily recruited post in the ā€˜26 class.
