Ohio St got a True Frosh Champ in Myles Martin last year.
Surprisingly, psu didn't get one.

Who's the next Freshman (Redshirt or True) to win the NC title?

I'm gonna go with Logan Massa or Isaiah White.
No true hammers at 65 anymore (I don't consider I Jordan a hammer) Bo will probably move up.
I could also see Zahid Valencia, but he's got a lot of tough competition. Is he 74 or 84?
Obviously, Mark Hall if he gets pulled, but doubtful.
Here are the weights I definitely don't see a Freshmen taking a NC title
25, 33, 41, 49, 57, 97, Heavy

I think I heard that Zahid Valencia is going down to 174. If so I would give him more of a shot than I would have given Myles Martin.

If Kemerer were to win with Martinez, Nolf, Palacio and Smith returning, get ready for Iowa to be the 2017 NCAA Champs regardless of if Marinelli wins afterwards. Kemerer would most likely be Iowa's 4th Finalist in the first 5 weight classes and their 3rd NCAA Champ!

Kemerer is going to be better than even the die hardest of Hawkeye fans realize. There isn't an opponent out there that Mike won't be right there with... Including Martinez and Nolf. Write it down, take a picture, IDGAF.
These are my thoughts. I'm not going to say he will beat those guys, but I fully believe he will give them everything they can handle.

Talk like this kills me. Makes the new season seem like it's an eternity away.

I agree but he still needs to put on size and work on his bottom game. The kid can score points on anyone.

I don't know how you can mention Massa and White, make a reference to how 165 is not top heavy at the moment and not mention V. Joseph. especially after what he did to everybody not named Hall at Juniors.

I am terrible at remembering who posts what, but aren't you the guy who predicted without a doubt that Evans would be a NCAA champ?

Lol... I don't know. I guess you should've wrote it down or took a picture although I can promise you I've never guaranteed a NCAA championship for any recruit or wrestler. You better save my post so you can come back and tell me how right I was.

I for one will be ready for an 8 minute match after Kemdawg faces Imart. Can you imagine how long that one could be with all of Perry's challenges, gripes and complaints?

I think smith gets the benefit of hype and Kemerer doesn't get enough.

IF there were betting lines I would take Kemerer over smith.

You guys are going to be really happy with his career.

Don't think he's ever beat Gilman has he?
Catfan thinks everyone who has stepped foot on Northwesterns campus can beat anyone at anytime.. He probably still can't believe Herbert's strength wasn't enough to win him the trials.

Smith is overrated because of blood lines. This year should have shown hints of that.

I don't think that is entirely accurate or fair. I don't think he was even a top 10 recruit...just looked it up on D1CW and he was 16 on their list. He seemed to be developing very fast when he first hit the scene during his true freshman campaign...then he was the only one to push Nolf to the end (up to that point) and they pulled his shirt and then I think you could say his bloodlines and apparent quick development gave people the impression he was near the top...In the end they did overrate him a bit...but only a bit..the kid is very very good.

Martin was a weird but fun story, losing to Nickal three times prior, 11 seed, had been likely to redshirt, wrestled unattached the first months. Not that he wasn't a huge recruit, because he was, but still didn't see that coming.

I don't think a freshman will, but I look forward to winning three individuals next year at 25, 33 and 184.

I will go on record as saying Martin never wins another NCAA title. He is an excellent wrestler but had a dream trip through nationals last year. He earned his title, but still think he was ranked about right. Similar to how many of you feel about Molinaro at the Trials. Great effort, deserved the recognition, but wouldn't necessarily pick him next time.

Smith was hurt or sick for the latter part of his true freshman year and still placed 7th. He did not wrestle for 3-4 weeks prior to the qualifier. I don't think he was overrated at all.
I agree. Within a few years he went from John Smiths son to JoJo. AA as a true freshman isn't to shabby.. I think his progession over the last couple years has been impressive.

That's pretty much how I see it as well. I don't see him repeating next year. Very good wrestler, but the stars aligned that weekend.

White owned both Kemerer and Joseph in highs school.
White reminds me of an Ed Ruth. Long and strong and super athletic.
He also has Bo Jordan to roll with in the room, so he's gonna get a lot better.
In a heads up at 65, I'd take White over Joseph.

Metcalf owned Burroughs and Molinaro in college, so a few years down the road changes things greatly. I am holding my opinions until Midlands. It is crazy how talented top recruits are now.

I hope you're wrong, but I don't disagree with your assessment of White. He is a great talent. But I will be rooting for both PA boys to beat him although it looks right now that Kemerer will be a weight class below white for the foreseeable future.
