NO post season

I think I remember games being played. most of those games were competitive, so what’s your point….that’s right you don’t have one.
@ Wisconsin, @ USC, @ UCLA, @ Ohio State, @ Illinois, @ Maryland sure weren't competitive by any stretch of the word. Thats the bar? Being competitive? What's your point?

my point is you play to compete and you compete to the best of your ability. the players deserve the opportunity to play. they have qualified to do that. as a player I would be extremely upset if that was denied me.

It looks like Rutgers and Northwestern have also announced they will not participate in post-season events.

It’s going to be hard for these consolation events to survive in the transfer portal era.

Well, I am really enjoying the stress free Selection Sunday knowing the Hawks ain’t anywhere near the bubble. I’m not worried who our first round opponent will be or if we will face the eventual champions in round two.

and you of course you know for a fact that only four players will remain
And you know for certain it will be otherwise?
My post was largely sarcasm, but at this point who cares if any of them stay? A new coach is going to bring his own guys. If there is one thing that is desperately needed it is new blood.

Interesting, you’re pretty quick to tell us all how the players think and what they believe
If you have first hand knowledge of how the players now feel then i will acknowledge that you are right. I have no personal insight of the players on this team. I only know how I would feel and how the players I do know would feel. Not wanting to play would never be a consideration.

Totally agree but my post was only that players want to play and compete. No personal interaction with anyone on this team just that almost every player I have ever known would want to play..

Owen Freeman.

of course it was Beth. she does exactly what she is told to do. players want to play and compete. this will not help incoming recruits decisions either. need an AD who knows what it’s like to compete.
Stop. You realize that Beth was a college athlete correct, or are you just making silly statements? Who was going to coach this team? How many players are actually staying? Do you know, or just think you do? In some of these lesser tournys would we make enough to even cover the teams expenses? Why should we play in games when we have no idea who really cares out of the players, none of the coaches will be here shortly, and it may be on the schools dime? They say post season helps you get extra practices. Why, no one will be here next year. And Frankly if you have a losing season there's no reason to extend that with post season play. This is done. Time to start over......

IF Freeman shutdown to protect his Pinky and future paycheck, I would say Dix would need to shutdown to protect his $1million dollar payday--no one wants to get injured in Leftover tournaments.

The rest of them would play, but as mentioned, it is money losing adventure for Iowa athletic department. Iowa would probably get beat like they did when they played Utah in NIT last year. I do feel for a guy like Braun that was just starting to get into a groove and play his best ball.

So how about all the football players that don’t play bowl games? I equate the NCAA tournament to the playoffs in football, they all play in those games. The NIT/Crown would be the equivalent to all the shitty bowl games, doesn’t seem like players get too excited about playing in those 🤷‍♂️

Example - Cam Ward of Miami (Potential #1 pick) played the 1st half of their bowl game this year vs ISU, then shut it down.

Playing in any non NCAA tourney post season event in this current era of pro ball that is power conference men's bball is primarily about what's good for the program in potential preparation for next season. And that it is at worst a financial break even proposition. Neither of those factors made sense for Iowa this season. It was much better for the business enterprise of the Iowa basketball program to focus their time and energy on getting a new coach in place first then said coach bringing in his roster through the portal.

I think that's horseshit. Elite players who are moving on to the NFL/NBA sitting out a non-playoff bowl game or non-NCAA postseason tourney makes some sense (although I don't like it), but to make a blanket statement that "players don't get too excited about playing" in such games is ridiculous. For 99% of players, college sports is where it ends for their competitive sports lives; I can't image not wanting to play in a game because the average fan doesn't find it important. Anyone with that attitude probably shouldn't be playing, anyway.
