Norman Rockwell's "Freedom of Speech"

According to the leftists/Marxists on this board, freedom of speech isn't an American value, it only refers to government speech.

Our resident free speech experts don’t seem to have a problem with Ron Desantis actually violating Disneys free speech from a government perspective….

Of course free speech is an American ideal, but it does not mean freedom from consequences of your speech….if you say your boss sucks in a Facebook post….great, more power to you….if they fire you for that post….more power to them…..that’s their speech, saying they don’t agree with your speech.

JFC. Don’t bite the hand that feeds you. Did desantis prevent them from speaking? Interesting twist here.

Disney suffered the consequences of their free speech. Like you said there will be consequences.

I'm sorry what Disney said and what they're doing is despicable for the type of business they are.

Saying they do not support a piece of legislation is a punishable offense by a State government? Not a thing authoritarian about that.

How, specifically were they “punished?” Removing advantages that one company has over the competition is not punishment, that’s just fair.

Do you realize there are over 1800 special taxing districts in Florida and the legislation passed only targeted those created before 1968 (Disney's was created in 1966)? The advantage was the ability to develop their properties without going through the red tape of local government. Those governments are really the ones being punished by having to absorb the responsibilities of maintenance. And possibly, every citizen in Florida will be punished if they have to cover the bond debt.

All for disagreeing with a bill that went after a non-existent boogie man.

It is but desantis’ retaliatory actions are just that - retaliatory. That makes them just as pretextual and wrong as those of the Colorado hr commission in masterpiece cake shop.

Rockwell was great. What better illustrated the concept of white privilege than Rockwell’s painting of Ruby Bridges escorted to school by law enforcement?

And some of those would never pass today because of environmental concerns.
Non existent boogie man? Using a name to draw attention with non existent language like don’t say gay...got it.

If you think this will end up being a taxpayer burden, I’m not sure what to tell you. They could levy a massive assessment on Disney and Disney would bow. What are they gonna do? For all the crying Dems do about evil corporations, you sure love running to defend them.

You prove yourself less informed and less intelligent with every post. Not even a good troll.

How so? Did the liberal media tell you how bad it would be for the working man? I’m just saying it doesn’t smell right from the surface level that this will somehow give the shaft to some poors who live near Disney. That just doesn’t add up.

A representative for DeSantis, Christina Pushaw, denied that the elimination of the district would increase taxes for Floridians and said that Disney will pay its fair share of taxes, describing suggestions otherwise as “wishful forecasting.”

“The details on the Reedy Creek plan have yet to be released,” she said in an email. “They will be soon. The local residents of Orange and Osceola counties will not have to bear the burden of Disney’s debt, as the governor has stated. And, there is no scenario where the state would inherit Disney’s debt — this is misinformation

I just checked. Disney's earnings were up 23% in the second fiscal quarter of 2022. Apparently, not many are following your example.
My example? I don’t much reason to buy/boycott Disney products.

That's fine. That's the free market at work. Government injecting themselves is 100% wrong and you know it. But, you will never admit it because you refuse to admit DeSantis has ever or will ever do anything wrong.

What I freely admit is that I am in agreement with his politics about 95% of the time.

To be honest, I think DeSantis is going way overboard. He doesn't need to be the uber-conservative at this point in his political trajectory. He should actually moderate his stance a bit.

But I'm not his political advisors.

It’s why I gave him a 95%.

I see you avoiding pushback on your assertion that the poors will be paying for Disney now. 🤷‍♂️ maybe you’ve been duped by idiot journalists (again).

No doubt, one of his most moving works. Once you see it you never forget it.

When you look at the little girl you see her carrying her books and ruler. The US Marshals escorting her are of course much bigger, you can't see their head/faces, but you can see their armbands.

On the wall behind them are stains from thrown fruit and the N-word.

Much of his work was heart-tugging, or comedic, or holiday-themed, but some of the best were focused on what America was and what he wanted it to be. He painted people as you might know them.
