Arrived at CHA early to watch the shoot around and gained a new appreciation for Ellingson's stroke. He is not at Jok-level, but the kid can really shoot it. I realize a pre-game shoot around is vastly different than a game, but he was ripping the nets and focused on catching and shooting in rhythm. His release looked quicker last night as well...maybe just my view.
Kriener: The more I see of this kid, the more I like him. Easy to say "he has a great stroke for a big guy" in these cases, but he has a great shot period. He was also hitting baseline jumpers and 3's consistently in the shoot around. I am glad he got a lot of PT last night, as we will need his bigger body and 5 fouls against teams like Purdue. He has great hands and when he gets them on the ball, he secures it, even in traffic.
Dailey: A lot of up side here I think. Seeing him on TV does not do his length justice. He is like Stretch Armstrong when he elevates and extends. I was hoping to see him drive it last night, but he likes the corner 3's too much apparently. Nice to see him hit a couple and get a run out dunk. I was most impressed with his ability to grab boards in traffic. Others stopped and he just kept rising and extending. Could be an Adrian Payne type player who can hit 3's. rebound, block shots, and rebound.
Guards against pressure: In one word, brutal. Hopefully other B1G teams are too distracted by the holidays to watch the film. I realize Bohannon has been thrown into the fire and it's not all on him, but he could not separate from the D-State defender and made multiple bad decisions. Iowa looked like they had never seen pressure in the back court before and Fran lost his markers and board during the TV time out and gave the death stare to the BTN camera guy poking his nose into the huddle. Camera guy quickly exiled by an assistant. Williams did a better job handling it, but the team needs to recognize the situation and come back to help out. I have been critical of Uhl, but will give him credit for his ball handling against the pressure. He was the only one not in panic mode when he had the ball.
