It's a very unusual call. Typically a runner stops on 2nd and turns to go back to the base. In this circumstance the runner came off the 2nd base bag on the 3rd base side, which is technically past the base which required him to tag the base before heading back to first. Definitely an odd play that you do not see very often.
15 pitch inning (I think), Morgan may have enough in the tank to get 1 more. He did settle down a little, fell behind that 3rd hitter but came back and got him to ground out.
Morgan has himself in a lot of trouble now, walked the leadoff hitter and moved him to 2nd on a wild pitch. Michigan is looking to bunt him over to 3rd.
He’s rung up Iowa at least twice on pitches outside the zone and didn’t give it to Morgan there. Add in the close play at the plate and he’s 4 calls in favor of Michigan and 0 toward Iowa. If they even out, fine. But there can’t be that big of a disparity.
The walk bug strikes Morgan yet again. This season has proven that batters struggle hitting him when he can throw strikes. The inability to do so is incredibly maddening to watch not only as an Iowa fan but a fan of the game as well.
