***Official Caitlin/Fever/Kate/Meg Games Mega Thread***

Sides addressed CC's complaining to refs in today's post game presser. She said CC is one of the fiercest competitors she's ever seen but said she needs to emotionally get herself under control when she perceives the officiating not going her way. She implied that it sometimes affects her game - ie., not getting back on defense, etc. She said that she's working with her to control this problem.
Well it might help if Sides would open up her mouth during games. Last game was a perfect time to lay into the officials and get the T.

Soooooo did someone shoot Clark’s dog?

Don’t think I saw a single smile all game.

Something is off.
I really think she's frustrated with Sides on many occasions and there's a very fine line about what she can express.

As well as the Fever have played, over all this season, I think it's safe to say Sides' job isn't in jeopardy, so CC is gonna have to concede some things.
She's not quite to LeBron's level yet where she can influence Fever ownership.

But also, Sides isn't wrong. Officiating gets in Clark's head and her game suffers--especially if her shots aren't falling. She's also on the verge of getting suspended for a game and that doesn't do anyone any good.

This was a constant conversation with Bluder, and it will probably be the same with every coach CC plays for. If you have a short memory, go back and watch Iowa vs. Holy Cross. Not a lot of smiling from Caitlin that day.

Any thoughts on why Kate has seemingly fallen out of favor with the Aces? Looks like she's barely played since the Olympic break.
Aces added Tiffany Hayes, and Chelsea Gray came back from injury. Just not a lot of minutes to be found anymore. She's still seeing the court, just a bummer the minutes have been much less in the second half of the season.

For the 1000th time, put that halter on Clark and you won't get half of the unbelievable assists she gets. A lot of her assists, the passes wouldn't even be attempted by most players. You get both ends of the spectrum from Clark because she is fearless, and unapologetic. Again if you took away the bullshit ones on bad catches etc.. they wouldn't be that bad. I also had no idea that they record a shot clock violation or offensive foul as a turnover. That has to be added in as well. Could she cut down on a few, sure, but if you start changing her mindset on what is and what is not a good pass, you'd never see the Clark were seeing now. Just another reason there's never been a player in the NCAA or the WNBA who's doing what she is doing. I guess if you'd like you can focus on the negative, but that seems senseless given what she's doing.....

I think moving Boston to the 4 would be a mistake. She's not going to be able to defend Stewart, Wilson, Ogwumike, Bonner, Sabally, or Collier on the perimeter. She just doesn't have the quickness. Putting another big at the 5 will kill the pace & space game which is where Indiana excels.
1000% this.

Well they were losing most of the game. She’s not a gracious loser, which is what we love about her.

Caitlin's nonverbals were downright dire at times today. This was the first game since the first month of the season where she looked like she was not able to muster any fun at times. I fear you might be right about she and Sides. It certainly isn't a Bluder connection, that's for sure.

I’m not him but pointing out BS is not hate. You paint with way too broad of a brush. This is an enclave of Iowa fans who followed Caitlin into the pros. We are not weirdos and trolls who take to twitter or whatever posting crap on pages of swoopes or Reese. And any suggestion of the same is preposterous and frankly insulting false equivalency.

nailed it.

I wouldn’t be surprised if she said she had a migraine again. They showed her at halftime leaving the court first, then once in the hallway going into a different room than all the other players.

That's the beauty of fandom. Sometimes the player(s) get better and change minds. She's really picked it up. Informal discourse. :)

Fans aren't patient and in Aliyah's case, they were ignorant.

Why do I say ignorant (which simply means unknowledgeable)? Aliyah was the #1 overall draft pick in 2023 and the 2023 Rookie of the Year for a reason. She's very good.

There is chatter that she did and that she received a shot at halftime. Also, was just watching some of the replay, and there’s a shot of her on the bench during a TO late in the second where she is not looking the best and she puts her hand up to her eyes like when you have a headache.

She was asked in the presser about why she ran into the tunnel. She nervously said it was a bad half, and that was all she had.

Here’s a breakdown of the 9:

TO 1 - Phantom travel, but was forcing post feed to double covered (fronted) Boston so probably would have been a TO regardless.

TO 2 - Questionable offensive foul on drive to basket. No other superstar in any other league gets that called against them.

TO 3 - Tries to feed cutting Mitchell on back door, but not quite enough window for it. How many of those have been money this year?

TO 4 - The infamous over and back pass. I’ve been waiting for this one all season and frankly she’s come pretty close on previous occasions, all because of Sides’ bullsh!t offense where she has CC dump the ball off the second she crosses half court. Also a blown call by the official, IMO. Smith was in the front court before she caught the ball.

TO 5 - Dribbles ball out of bounds off own foot. Brian fart.

TO 6 - Post feed right into Smith. Good pass, Smith bobbles and Dream come away with it.

TO 7 - Canada reach around steal initially called foul but was clean and overturned.

TO 8 - Perfect bounce pass to cutting Hull that she bobbled out of bounds. Would have been easy layup.

TO 9 - Attempted get ahead to Hull in the corner that is stolen by Howard.

So I would put 5 of those on Caitlin, with two of those (failed back door feed to Mitchell and the stolen get ahead to Hull) in the bucket of passes we want her to keep making. The dribble off the foot crap is frustrating. But she very well was playing with a migraine at the time for chrissakes.

Any thoughts on why Kate has seemingly fallen out of favor with the Aces? Looks like she's barely played since the Olympic break.

2 players have been affecting Kate Martin's minutes:

(1) On May 31st, 34 year old guard Tiffany Hayes came out of retirement.
..........Hayes' stats today: 19 minutes, 1-2 (50%) from three, 1-3 (33%) from two, 2-2 (100%) FTs for 7 points, 3 rebounds.

(2) 31 year old guard Chelsea Gray came back from injury.
..........Gray's stats today: 30 minutes, 1-4 (25%) from three, 0-3 (0%) from two, 0-0 (100%) FTs for 3 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocks

Kate attempted 3 shots today and missed all 3. Her stats today: 5 minutes, 0-1 (0%) from three, 0-2 (0%) from two, 0-0 (100%) FTs for 0 points, 0 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 steals, 0 blocks and 1 TURNOVER

NaLyssa Smith played just under 17 minutes and was -17 for the game. All other players including the bench had a plus rating.

She’s so bad.

In the 2022 WNBA Draft, Rhyne Howard was the #1 overall pick. NaLyssa Smith was the #2 overall pick. Lexi Hull was the #6 overall pick.

Here were the top 12 picks of round 1 (plus rounds 2 and 3); not sure who Indiana should have picked at #2 overall. Maybe Naz Hillmon, who was #15 overall (2nd round), but hindsight is 20/20.

Respectfully, I don't know one way or the other what Aliyah's conditioning was coming into training camp; none of us do.

The Fever started out 1-8. NO ONE played well in those first 9 games yet Boston got most of the heat. IMO, the 1-8 start was because the schedule was brutal AND the team was still trying to figure out how to play with Caitlin.

I don’t know what it was but she just looked disinterested almost. It was a weird vibe from her.

Yeah they would show her sitting down during timeouts and mentally she just looked checked out.

She’s the most scrutinized rookie of any sport that I can remember.

I can’t imagine the amount of pressure she’s feeling.

I’m not looking for the season to be over quite yet, but I think she needs this season to be over with.

She’s just going to get better and better. Going to be a monster.
