You can cut someone but they count against the salary cap.
One good thing is that Smith is still on the end of a rookie contract, so even a cut doesn’t have as bad of a cap hit as it could be like KLS. It is still $92k though. I’d rather have that cap space to sign my draft pick. So expansion draft or trade is a high priority.

Angel is heartbroken about a coach getting fired where:

* The Sky locker-room was toxic

* Things were so bad that one of the Sky's best players forced a trade in July with the Sun. 5'11 guard Marina Mabrey is the same age as Kelsey Mitchell. For the season, Marina averaged 14.4 pts, 4.1 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 1.1 steals. Fever fans saw first hand what a great player Marina is.

According to this, Saxton and Berger are not protected salaries, so I think they could be cut to free up roster and cap space if needed. Boston and Clark are unprotected too, but they aren’t getting cut. Because Smith’s extension was picked up by the team earlier this year, her salary hits the cap next year unless you trade her or the expansion team picks her.

Wouldn't be surprised if one of the reasons Spoon got canned was the undisciplined play of the team, which included the highest number of "flagrant fouls" in the entire League.

Be interesting if they replace with another Black coach and if they don't...how Reece handles it.

Special whistle…hmmm…Aja Wilson 743 FTA and CC 580 with CC playing over 100 minutes more and handling the ball a lot more. CC finished seventh in the league in FTA…she wasn’t even first in her own team, Mitchell had 22 more attempts than she did.
Don't forwards generally get more attempts than guards because of more contested shots?

Aja Wilson also plays more in the post and post players are fouled more frequently.

No it’s not.
When your first thought after getting the ball is looking to score, that is the definition of a ball stopper. You can still be a great scorer and player but ball movement is not your first priority. All I ever intended to point out was I felt Clark/team would be better served by having another scorer at forward and the post rather than another in the backcourt. But if you want to die on the KM hill, be my guest.

Cathy Engelbert was appointed as WNBA Commissioner in 2019 by Adam Silver. Should Silver replace her? Between the horrid officiating, so-called "physicality" of the League which may ultimately result in great harm, lack of public denouncement and accountability of conspicuous targeting on the court, and an overall separation from events relative to the game in general, I would say yes. The only statement she has put out pertains to denouncing hate, threats, and racism by the fans. We all get that, concerning the hate and so on, but she hasn't realized or addressed the issues that are leading up to some of the disdain and disbelief of the organization. She has a stellar record in the business field. Why can't she provide effective leadership for the league?
They definitely leaned into the physicality persona for the league. That was a running commercial for the league all season long. Why? Who knows their thinking, but it is not very entertaining. Maybe it is to appease the old guard in the league. Or, is the talent level in the league not deep enough, such that if they allowed a more free flowing game, that it would expose the league's lack of top to bottom athletic talent, i.e., it's their way of evening things out. Selfishly, and there are a few others in the league for whom this would apply, but if Caitlin were allowed to play the game without being impeded/pushed/bumped/grabbed all over the court (you know, like what the rules of the game are there for), we'd see games like what Caitlin did at Iowa. That's basketball. They continue to allow what we saw this year and Caitlin is going to get hurt (really hurt); unfortunately, if this BS play isn't reigned in, I believe that it's just a matter of time. I'm not arguing she should be coddled, but just enforce the rules in the rule book.

Lin Dunn must be fired. Below is a brief cronology of her incompetency.

2022
Dunn came on as interim GM in February of 2022. At that time the only current Fever player on the roster was Kelsey.

Her first move was to trade Teair McCowan to Dallas for their first round 2022 draft picks No. 4 and No. 6. With these picks the Fever drafted Emily Engstler at #4 and Lexie at #6. One year later Engstler was waived.

So in exchange for Lexie, the Fever gave up McCowan (6'7", 240). Here's a summary of her McCowan2021 season stats -

"The former third overall pick [McCowan] in the 2019 WNBA Draft had a career season in 2021, averaging 11.3 points, 9.6 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. Her 9.6 rebounds was the third-best average in the WNBA and she was fifth in the league in shot blocks. Through the past three seasons, McCowan recorded 28 double-doubles, good for third most in the league behind last season’s league MVP Jonquel Jones (33) and Minnesota’s Sylvia Fowles (31)." https://justwomensports

The fever drafted Nalyssa at #2 in 2022. So the Fever had picks #2, #4, #6, and #10. So at this point Lin Dunn gets nothing out of the #2 and #10 picks and trades a fabulous big for, as it turns out, Lexie Hull. Bottom line - Dunn gives McCowan and first round #2 and #10 picks up for Lexie.

2023
AB drafted #1 – no-brainer; Grace Berger drafted #7. Dunn then hires itinerant assistant coach Christy Sides ($500,000) who comes with sidekicks Erica Wheeler ($202.000) and Kristy Wallace ($71,000).

2024
Signs Katie Lou ($175,000) and CC drafted #1 – no-brainer. Celeste Taylor picked in round #2 and waived.

Normally a true statement, but not in CC’s case. She is not guarded like any other player. She is grabbed, bumped, assaulted with or without the ball all over the court. If fouls were called correctly, she would shoot 20 FT’s a game, and average 40 pts a game..

On one hand, without those decisions, the fever don't tank and they don't get AB and CC. On the other hand, those are bad trades and selections. It would have been great to have McCowan on this team, but if McCowan was on this team CC wouldn't be. Perhaps it is time to cut bait. But, perhaps CC will recruit talent here on her own...

Sorry to bring race into this, but everything is racist. Alyssa Thomas calling out the Fever fans for racist attacks without evidence, WNBAPA calling out the most objective reporter of the WNBA for racism. I'm done, I'll never watch another game and I am the biggest CC22 Homer here. It's a garbage league with woke garbage players. **** em all, I'm done.

Furthermore, if I were CC22, I'd seriously consider becoming a LPGA golfer.
