***Official Caitlin/Fever/Kate/Meg Games Mega Thread***

Regardless of ownership and revenue sharing options, how is a lil more than a mil per season a "Messi-like" offer?

I think any average schmo accountant could sit down with the numbers and show her projected revenue stream to be ten folds this amount.

I think Caitlin, when it's all said and done, wants to be the best ever. Imo, pursue whatever that requires, and the money will follow.
Relative to revenue I guess. Income could grow proportionally with increased league revenue.

Am I the only one who thinks a 3-on-3 league is the absolute antithesis of Caitlin and her game? Shrink the court? Reduce the number of scoring options? Really? What am I missing here that doesn’t scream out that this is the worst conceivable pairing of player and sport?

Unrivaled, a 6-team league (5 players/team), will tip off in Miami in January, 2025.

Only 4 openings are left. To date, 26 of 30 players have announced their intentions to play.

When it comes to compensation, players will be paid on a sliding scale. The bigger their stardom, the bigger their social media following, the more players will earn. By that standard, there’s no bigger draw than Clark, who drives TV ratings like no athlete since Tiger Woods.

The 3-on-3 league’s season will run for 8 weeks, including playoffs.

There may also be appeal for Clark to spend the coldest part of winter in sunny South Florida.

CAll me crazy, but didn't CC22 advocate for revenue sharing for the WNBA players out of the gate based on ticket sales for visiting players, like right out of the gate? I could have sworn I read that somewhere, maybe here. Essentially, a team that normally doesn't sell out their home arena but does based on visiting teams would get a cut of ticket sales. I may be thinking of something else, or it is wishful thinking.

Doesn’t sound like something she’d say. I’m sure she’s thinking it though, or her agent is.

She did.

Somebody help me out here? Who are the other four girls? I can’t place their names.

Kind of. She asked for some type of bonus to be paid to visiting players for the jump in attendance.

The one in the middle I believe is Halliburton’s girlfriend. The super hot one next to Caitlin I think is a social media person. I think maybe she was dating or involved with Kate Martin.*

*edited to note this was incorrect.

You are 100% correct, she did.

After a few away games, and all of the sellouts, Caitlin asked the WNBA if they would pay spot bonuses to the away team players,

Many people have misinterpreted that Barber anecdote, and I suppose it is also possible that she misspoke. But, what you correctly note is she says Clark asked about the visiting team getting a bonus. The visiting team is the Fever in that story. I can see the point; the people are coming to see the Fever.
Would seem to make CC more beloved in the WNBA if she were advocating for the home players to get the bonus.

She's advocating for the Fever teammates to get paid more. But a policy like that would also help a handful of other teams, like the Aces, that usually see an increase in attendance when they show up at a visitor's arena too.

Having said that, it was against the current contract and I doubt that it would be added into the new one. This would only benefit a few teams and harm many others as recruiting free agents to the ones with lighter attendance becomes that much harder. Also, how would that compensation fit into the hard salary cap that the league has?

Satou is 26 years old and is 6'4. She was the #2 overall pick by Dallas in the 2020 WNBA Draft.

In 2024 she averaged 17.9 pts, 6.4 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.3 steals. She shot 43% overall and 45% from three. She made 78% of her FTs.

I just don’t see how she doesn’t get cored without a sign and trade type deal.

Completely agree. CC's best asset is her sprint speed on the dribble. She is unbelievably fast in transition. Her second best skill is her transition vision and passing. Both of those disappear in 3x3.

3x3 is the worst use of her skills.

They're not playing Olympic-style 3x3. It is full-court, but on a 70-something foot court.

I believe this isn't the olympic kind of 3x3, but more like you would see on a shorter full court.

Regardless, I think it will be like watching the NBA All-Star game. Mildly interesting for five minutes and then unwatchable after that. It will just be a shooting exhibition. No defense will be played, because no one is going to want to risk getting hurt. My guess is that people will quickly tired of watching it.

My guess is that there will be a lot of extra fluff and gimmicks.... pre-game fashion shows, mic'd up players, celebrity coaches, back story segments, over the top PA announcers ...
