***Official Caitlin/Fever/Kate/Meg Games Mega Thread***

Getting ready to watch the 3rd qtr. That Carter foul on CC was ruled a Flagrant 1 if I heard correctly. There must have been some trash talk going on, because I didn't see a lot of contact before that. The one thing I did take note of was Angel Reese hugging Carter after that play at the bench.
It was not. Ruled a common foul away from the ball. Should have been an F1.

I have no idea who Josh Reynolds is, but he is correct. That said, why is Boston sauntering over to CC22 and not grabbing Carter by the throat? In fact why isn't ANYONE on that team beating the shit out that girl? To me, that's a bigger problem, not one teammate came to her defense.

Refs gave her a Flag 1, she should have been tossed. WNBA better get their shit together.

Final rant- watch any Ww game, and not one team plays defense like they do against CC22. Face guarding her off the ball, 94 feet, blitz traps, the junk defenses. Of course they can that because Fever roster plain sucks.

Just a reminder to the WNBA and its players who your meal ticket is.

Those that have been soldiering for decades should be jealous of the spotlight given to Reese, Cardozo, Brink as well. Also consider that many that are giving CC the new girl business are new girls themselves. Chennedy Carter is only 25.
Nothing to do with being a new girl as she clearly did this on Reese’s orders/ with her approval.

I’m afraid this was a racial thing, not a “welcome to the league” moment.

I thought I heard a while back that her Mom was her agent. Is that true?
No she's not. She signed with Excel mgmt last summer. They handle alot of big stars, (the Mannings as an example). Up until that point her Mom (who worked in marketing) handled her affairs, but it became obvious that her brand would need a fulltime staff of pro agents.

So far, neither Clark nor the Fever are making opponents pay for their overly aggressive defense, so they have no reason to stop. Make them pay, then they'll be forced to back off.

So, trying to understand…my feeling is these girls have soldiered away in anonymity for literally decades then some college superstar shows up and shines the light on them. We look at it and say they should be thankful.

But in reality, it would be hard not to be a little jealous, so I really am trying to show empathy for them.

Their goal was to make her an ineffective, they wanted to show that there are a lot of basketball players in the WNBA just as good and better than she is.

But in reality, she’s just too talented & too versatile. Yes her shot is very off right now, but even in that she is demonstratively impacting the game.

They’re jealousy and I prefer to call it that than racism… Yes, both things could be true but it ultimately comes down to jealousy. We have an affinity to “name things “in our society. What just happened has to be “called something “but in reality it comes down to pride and jealousy.

With that said, the WNBA has to do something. Because right now what the world is seeing is a lot of dumb ass pettiness..

Now I have to add, what we are seeing right now is absolutely unprecedented. I’ve Said it before, but Im 53 years old & 40+ being a sports fanatic. I have never seen a rookie come into any league and fade as much animosity and as much physicality as she is facing. Yet she is succeeding at a very high level.

It really is a bizarre soap opera unfolding in real time!
Great post!

Even I’m amazed at how much Caitlin is dominating the league only 10 games in!

I figured she would dominate about year 3. Not 3 minutes in to her career like she has.

I’m trying to find 5 better players than her currently & there just isn’t.

I guess all of the Hawkeye fans WERE right & the rest of the wnba WAS wrong.

She really IS the goat!

Wait until she’s in her prime & has better teammates/coach. 🤯

The Fever have one game left of their tough 11-games-in-20-days opening schedule. After Sunday's game in NY, the Fever get a five-day break.

Excellent, thoughtful and level-headed post.

I'm not sure that cleaning up the physicality on CC falls on the league though. Fouls and flagrant fouls are part of the game. Defenders are alotted so many per game, and at certain times it is smart to use them. If Iowa had anything closer to that mentality they may have won a natty. Ultimately it falls on CC and her teammates to enforce and protect themselves by fighting back.

I also have to take exception to saying that, "CC is succeeding at a very high level." I get that her stats are good and certainly impressive. And yeah, yeah, I get that her team isn't any good. But their record is very poor. So I just don't agree that CC is "succeeding at a very high level." Don't get me wrong, at the same time, I feel what CC has done so far has been impressive. But the objective is to win games

Only comment.... Clark needs to get stronger.

Like Jordan after year 1 in the NBA
Sure, and as we've discussed she had ZERO off season to prepare for the league. She's a big girl, and she knows what needs to be done. Still that doesn't change that a lot of this is straight up BS, and its not basketball. If the league wants their product to move the needle they need to clean up the intentional crap.

How are Clark and her teammates supposed to fight back when they are already being called for touch fouls on defense while getting hammered on offense? After hitting a 3 against Seattle, Caitlin got jabbed in the chest or face and she drew a technical for just verbally standing up for herself.

The difference is, CC is constantly face guarded. Her defender is never playing help defense. They are very physical with her when she tries to cut. Love Kate, but it’s much easier to get open when you aren’t the center of attention the entire game.
This. Comparing what Kate or ANY other player in the league to whats going on with Clark is ridiculous.....

If Boston had steamrolled Carter for the cheap shot, the ensuing bench clearing brawl and press coverage of all of it might have got the league office's attention.

Have you seen all the talking and arguing by other players to the refs? And amazing the only Ts I've seen have been on CC.
This league needs to do a lot of growing up. CC and the other rookies have finally gotten it some attention and the old players, officials and league are blowing it.

It isn't really Boston's personality to be an enforcer, but even if it was she had just picked up her 4th (or maybe it was 5th?) foul and was needed to defend Reese/Cardosa. It would be nice to see the Fever rallying around each other in those situations though.

True, but it also would likely have cost the Fever the game.

Likely yes, but at some point you send the message to the league and it's players that the team is not putting up with this BS. If the refs won't police it...we will. Old School Hockey Rules.

Not exactly. She's getting the money, they're not...and they're not likely to. That's why they hate her.

Maybe not right this second but…

She got them chartered planes
TV ratings are way up
Ticket sales are way up
Interest is growing
CC has played in what 10 f’ing games?
Asshats like Carter need to realize that they will benefit from this financially in time

Touché’….but we should all have realized it would take time. Outside of the game the other night, they are getting better.

The NBA did take away some of the physicality though years back, especially 25 ft from the hoop. The level of grabbing and holding outside the lane has really surprised me.

I’m not just asking about the cheap shot. But even that can be taken out of the game. A couple suspensions and teams losing because of it would do it 🤷‍♂️

She’s not one of the 5 best yet, but she has acquitted herself well. I said at the start of the season in two months she will be one of the 20 best players in the world easily and she is well on her way!
