*****Official Cubs 2019 thread*****

At Wrigley Field, the Chicago Cubs have clutch hitting
with runners in scoring position. On the road away
from Wrigley, the Cubs are failing to advance runners
in scoring position.

What is the difference between road and home games? 2 completely different teams.

Seriously?

It looks like if they even make the playoffs, it will be one series max as they won't have any homefield advantages, unless it is the WC game and they lost that one last year at Wrigley. There has to be some serious soul searching going on with that team right now.

Projecting the Cubs, Cardinals, and Brewers current winning percentages on home and road games to date and the games remaining, both the Cubs and Cardinals will win 86 games and Milwaukee will win 84. The Cubs close with 3 games in StL. They had better have at least a 3 game lead going into that series.

The cubs final 6 games are on the road. They better have a 7 game lead before that trip.

Ebb and flow of the season, folks. Ebb and flow.

You get the 'rats over the weekend, then a day off then the Giants. Ain't like you can't fatten up some down the road too like the Cards are right now. And we get those damn pesky Reds for 4 in that crackerbox all weekend.

Hamels didn't have it tonight obviously and that is concerning, but Nola is a pretty good starter and can shut just about anybody down.

At least Mills saved the pen. Could have been worse.

St. Louis spends about $173M on payroll and made no effort to improve their club at the deadline.

The Cubs spend about $217M on payroll and made multiple deadline moves.

If STL wins the NL Central, the Theo Epstein Infallibility Club will have a hard time spinning that one.

The NL Central is baseball’s worst division and will be even worse next year. Both the Cubs and Cards have $115-$120M committed to guys on the downside of their careers. Most farm rankings have the Cards about #18 with most of their talent at the lower levels. We all know the Cubs have a terrible farm system.

Pittsburgh is a mess, Milwaukee has no starting pitching.

The Reds could very well win the NL Central next year. They may have the best rotation by that time.

Somebody has read my mind.

But get ready... some clown will be along with some FanGraph meaningless statistic to show the Cubs are just in a little slump.

I see the CUBS with a payroll of $218,064,850
The Cardinals Payroll is $163,489,196

There are actual living, breathing people who blame Tom Ricketts for not spending enough money to fill holes on the roster.

What it shows to me is that Theo and company have been passed up by smarter organizations in LA and Houston. If you are the worst organization in baseball at pitcher drafting/development, you pretty much need an unlimited budget to remain on top.

Tied for first on August 15 and I've about given up. Even if this team does miraculously win the Central or make the Wild Card they aren't doing crap in the playoffs. Dodgers & Braves are the class of the NL.

Pathetic.

Well the only other ss on the roster is in Des Moines because he couldn’t stop beating women and getting drunk.
A hole in the roster I’ve been waiting for Theo to force Joe to step in.

Our top prospects hit the majors and plateau or regress it seems. Javy and Willson excluded. Theo has been stubbornly attached to, or overly patient with several guys.
The Astros and Dodgers just keep cranking out prospects.

And coincidentally neither Javy or Willson are Theo draft picks. Bring back Hendry!

I don’t get how Jason McLeod still has a job either. The development machine Theo wanted to become apparently only applied when you could just outspend everyone else for foreign talent, and now those days are over.

McLeod is rumored every off season to be leaving to resurrect a team on his own. He never gets that job. It makes me think he falls flat in interviews, or someone is just dropping rumors.
Player development has lagged, as well as identifying decent arms with upside.

Book it. The Cubs will salvage a win today with a 10+ run outing, sporting a AAAA roster.

Darvish pitches 7 shutout innings and leaves with
a 5 run lead.

Whoa........The Cub bullpen gives up 7 runs in 1 and
1/3 innings. Harper hits a Grand Slam to win it.

Bottom Line: Theo Epstein knows nothing about
putting a bullpen together.
