I like this new guy. Amazing what a change of scenery can do for a player.
More like Nick CASHtellanos. Amirite?

you just now figuring out the dude is a moron?![]()
I just think it's dumb when people criticize managers for not putting out their best lineup or running out the best reliever in every situation. You have to take a long view. Guys need nights off, teams put out get away lineups that aren't close to their best chance of winning sometimes because you just can't go all out every game over a 162 season and not run your guys into the ground. You can't throw your best set up guy night and night out and expect him to have anything left come late summer. Througout his time here Maddon has been great at having his teams take off in Aug and Sep. I think Maddon is an extremely good manager and will be sorely missed once the year is over.
Your point?LOL, you are the genius who was telling us how bad the Castellanos trade was.
Resting players the day after a night game is the right way to get them ready for this stretch run.Agreed, and the night game in New York followed by a 1:20 game the next day in Chicago certainly played a factor in Maddon’s lineups both days. Schwarber had a good day after the day off.
No, I said what I said because by the numbers Kemp has not warranted the number of starts he's received. I think Maddon gets stubborn at times. He's known to fill out line ups several days in advance and not want to waiver off of them. He does paint by the numbers bullpen usage.I say that because everyone accuses Maddon for being incompetent for everything that goes wrong even when it’s not his fault. Tonight worked out but do you give him praise? Of course not.
It all boils down to the players executing and the pitchers throwing good strikes. It’s on them, not Maddon. But next game we lose you’ll jump all over Maddon for screwing things up.
Your point?
We will find out in about 5 years if it was stupid. Well, you could say we will find out much sooner(like this october). The trade sure as shit didn't make us even a top 3 team in baseball. Hell we are heading into Sept barely in line for the WC and have probably lost ground since the day we acquired him.
Great pick up though I guess right? I assume you feel none of the cheap arms we lost would have been any real use in the future?
I will say he has done much better than I expected, and obviously I hope he keeps it up.....

I am not worried about Schwarber or Happ being tired, as others have mentioned. They are 25ish years old. They can take it. And, the team had an off day on Monday. Kemp is scratching out hits at a rate that may land him below the Mendoza line for the season. He has no pop, and he can't swipe a base (Which, isn't really a sin I suppose on this Cubs team).
He is a career back up player, who has been getting far too many starts.

glad to hear you know so much about me .......They aren't even in the wildcard discussion w/out that move, Castellanos is killing it more than anyone on the roster right now. If they didn't do anything and kept those prospects then you'd be whining about them not making any moves at the trade deadline, blah blah blah this organization doesn't care, waahhhhhhh. You seem like the type that your enjoyment in sports is just to bitch about stuff for the sake of bitching.

You’re exactly right. Castellanos has been reborn playing in a Cubs uniform. The pitching prospects lost would be doing nothing for the Cubs this season. As long as the Cubs are in the hunt I want them playing, managing, wheeling and dealing for THIS SEASON.They aren't even in the wildcard discussion w/out that move, Castellanos is killing it more than anyone on the roster right now. nope pretty happyHis assessment seems spot on. You seem like a miserable person.
Maddon keeps starting him. Does Theo make up the daily line up? Theo got Maddon a bench guy. Maddon keeps starting him.He was asked to fill out lineups in advance and provide them to the players early by the front office this season. That’s a front office direction. Again if Kemp is that bad, why is he on the roster? Maddon isn’t the one who turned Mike Montgomery into Kemp.

Aaaaand now it’s officially football season.
Also- fire Maddon
If you approve of his lineups and bullpen use of late, you are in an extremely small minority. He should have told them to score some runs

There has been poor development. Some players have either regressed or plateaued. Turnover on the staff has not been helpful. Part of that is Theo, and part of that was Joe insisting on bringing in Chili Davis. There has been hubris in the front office. Theo made a proclamation, but failed to follow through with the needed moves. There are times where I will scratch my head a tad a lineup or bullpen decision, but upon further review, I will see that the alternatives were awful. The inky thing for which I will criticize Joe in 2019 is playing Albert Almora too much. But this is a roster issue.
This front office is incapable of developing pitchers, and incapable of developing any decent position players unless they are tanking and picking early. To have sustained success in MLB, you must continue to develop talent, especially with more punitive luxury tax, and many players signing pre-are extensions and bypassing free agency.
Theo and company are on their third pitching coach and third hitting coach since the World Series. Inevitably, Joe Maddon will not be back barring a miraculous World Series run. At that time, Theo will have scapegoated everybody he possibly can except for his two errand boys, Jed Hoyer and Jason McLeod.
The Cubs will likely be worse in 2020 than in 2019. None of their young position players seem to be getting any better, but they are all getting more expensive. Lester will be 36, Darvish is 33, and there is no clear internal option for the final rotation spot

I do not think Joe will be back. I think it is incumbent upon Theo to face tough decisions instead of issue platitudes. I am also cognizant that this has been a very good run, and all is not lost. This is still a better than average team, with multiple players to build upon. One of those is Adbert Alzolay, who I think will join the rotation next season.
