*****Official Cubs 2019 thread*****

I don't think you can argue about #1 on that list. It was so impactful on the Cubs march to the WS win.
The Mariners game was awesome because of how the pitchers played such unconventional roles. It was a Sunday night game, and we were on our way to vacation up on Lake Superior. We had to stop to see a friend of Mrs. Lucas in the Twin Cities, so we got a room about an hour north of there. The game went late, and the kids and wife were not happy about the game being on in the hotel room.
One off of the list that I love was from 2015, mainly because I was there. Monday night game against the Rockies where the Cubs had crapped away a late lead. Fowler led off the 9th with a double, and Bryant mashed one. I have the picture of the scrum at home plate as a screen saver.
10ish years ago I was at a game in the bleachers, also against the Rockies, that was fantastic. The game started late because of rain, and after the front passed through the wind kicked up. It was so windy you couldn't keep a hat on your head. We had a large group, and couldn't get seats together, so we scrambled up onto the concrete blocks below the scoreboard. I'm not sure if that is even allowed anymore. Awesome boob watching spot in addition to a great place to watch a game. The Rockies were up 8-1 after 2 innings. The Cubs pecked away with homers from Henry Blanco, Micah Freaking Huffpauir, and two from Jim Edmonds. Sheer pandemonium in the bleachers.

Chatwood...all zeros in 1.2 innings. Keep it up chatty.
Al Yellon from BCB mentioned hopefully that he will take to the pen. That’s been my hope, too. Maybe he has less to worry about, and can flourish with stripped down responsibilities. Just come in knowing you will pitch 1-2 innings, and focus on your fastball.

Brian Duensing looks like a guy who could be cut. Maybe a DL stint to stay in Arizona in an attempt to not eat the money he is owed and salvage something.

Wow indeed! I read Brett Taylor’s post on this and I was thinking it was a joke when I saw the headline. That’s a guy with a lot of MLB roster time to sit down, and it isn’t like there is someone pushing him from behind. In fact, I thought Descalso has been labeled as questionable for the start of the season.
Clearly Happ struggled last season, but he gives you pop and versatility. I guess this gives me a reason to go to Des Moines for a game or two in April and maybe May. I can’t see this being long term.

He struggled in spring training too. If he can’t figure out how to lay off the high heat he’ll be in Iowa a long time.

Sorry I thought it was obvious I meant tonight.
Got it, but I was furiously scrambling looking for tweets or something in a game thread about Lester clutching his elbow as he walked off the field grimacing.
IDK, he has logged a lot of innings over his career, and this was a night where they stretched him out some. I won't be too worried unless it lingers into the season. He has been a magnificent signing. But, if he is done, no worries, Joe can just plug Chatty back into the rotation. Unless Darvish's blister is code for Tommy John surgery needed.

A lot of folks on BCB are saying this does mean Theo and Co. are putting their words from last fall into action. It’s time to produce, and not just be a prospect.

Cubs suck and Im really enjoying this dynasty that was coming after winning one world series.

Maybe Joe is changing his mind who he wants starting opening day. Ha. I think Lester will be fine. Maybe more like a 3 in the rotation, though.

To have a dynasty in MLB, you need a lack of injuries,
and a little luck. Last season, the Cubs had neither.
Bryant, Rizzo , and Baez are the three guys who need
to carry this team offensively. That means 30 home
runs and 90-100 RBI's for each one of them.

Duensing DFAd. Good. Theo is eating some money, but if he's serious about urgency, then he is showing it.
I liked bringing Duensing back last year, but he has nothing left.

I know. It's humiliating to have been to 3 straight NLCS and 4 straight trips to the playoffs. The real dynasty is the Dod..um, I mean Red S..oh, no, um..Astr...nope. I got nuthin.

If Happ got DFA'd for his spring performance you would think Heyward would be right with him if not for the vet status, .132 for the spring, yuck.

How many more years of this guy? Just bench him and let him make another speech if we make it to game 7 of the WS and it rains.

Not to be technical, but Happ has minor league options. You don’t DFA. Heyward is owed $11 billion dollars, so we are stuck with his elite level glove and intangibles.

Cubs reserves bounce Bosox 16-7. They also scored 24 runs a couple of days ago.

Farm system being rebuilt???????

Stuff like this, and that Joe has not been offered an extension clearly signal that the pressure is on. Hard to believe a guy that has averaged over 93? wins is feeling the heat, but there it is. Theo is telling Joe to get things right. As has been said many times Joe is the best there is from the last pitch to the first pitch of the next game. Happ being demoted and Duensing being dropped signal accountability, too.

Sounds like fried chicken and beer followed Theo from Boston
Jon Lester was in that clubhouse. I said many times last year that the team missed having a red ass like John Lackey. Not what Lackey had become on the hill, but the guy who holds people accountable. Or, a driver like David Ross who keeps others motivated.

Wasnt Lackey also in that clubhouse?
