*****Official Cubs 2019 thread*****

Of the two options, Schwarber would be my guess as he really doesn't bring much to the table other than his ability to hit a homer occasionally. Almora plays an above average center field at least.

However, I think Zagunis goes back down before both those two.

He does, but he might also be the worst hitter in the NL at this point. A guy who doesn't walk, has no power has very limited upside and that's even if he had a decent average.

I just think the Cubs will send Zagunis down before them. He started hot, but isn't much of a fielder, and really doesn't have much power.

If they could get rid of all 3 and get Mike Trout, I'd go along with that :).

Remember when there was talk of trading Almora and Happ to Miami for Yelich?

Ugh.
Yes, and I obsess over it. Theo is fascinated with his own guys, even though Hendry drafted Almora. He can't bring himself to consider trading Happ or Schwarber.

Hendry didn't draft Almora, that was Theo's first 1st round pick. Javy was Hendry's last one.

Tigerhawk guy front row behind home plate today.
That guy is giving the Hawkeyes some major air time today.
Edit: I almost always wear my black Iowa ball cap, with the gold I on it at Wrigley. Years ago a buddy and I were in the left field bleachers when Wellington Castillo hit a rocket that landed about 5 rows in front of us. We went back to his place and saw the highlights, and there was the black Iowa cap jumping for joy in the bleachers.

I listen to day games on the radio while at work. Pat Hughes takes a break during the 5th inning and Zach Zaidman takes over. MY GOD. He is horrible. I still don’t understand why they got rid of Mark Grote.

I see no reason to pull him quickly, let him play at Iowa for a while. It's not like he's in a position to be upset about being in AAA. If he starts cooking in Iowa, then pull him up. I'm hoping with all this behind him he starts getting back to the player most people thought he would be by now, the consensus top 5 prospect guy.

Zaidman always sounds like he's whispering someone a secret.
I think Grote and Zaidman were just flip flopped by the Score. Grote does the Bears beat.

Part of me wishes they'd let Russell play some CF in Arizona. See if he could be useful there. He has the athleticism required to play outfield.
As far as when he is called up, it should only be when he proves himself to be 100 percent ready. Ideally the Cubs would trade him, but I think every other team wants to see production. Now, if the Cubs cut him, you would undoubtedly see a team take a flyer on him.

Not a big fan of Pat's 5th inning bathroom break for that reason. It can be a launching pad for a career as Cory Provus went from doing Cubs pre/post game and the 5th inning to the radio voice of the Minnesota Twins now. I listen to some Twins games on the radio and he does a really good job.

That’s a good way to describe it. It’s weird.

Yes, that’s what happened, and I’m not a fan — Grote is fantastic on the Cubs broadcast.

At this point I don’t care if he never makes it back to the majors...as long as he’s a changed man.

That’s most important in my opinion.

Well, can’t be too upset I suppose.

All in all, responding to a 1-6 start by going 11-5 is a good response. The non-Darvish starting pitching is excellent. The bullpen, while short on arms (this is where a lot of teams deploy young, homegrown arms) is improving. Baez, Contreras, and Heyward have been outstanding.

I am officially in the "worried about Kris Bryant" camp. It's not as I feel he has had a bunch of "loud outs" - he simply does not drive the the ball with any frequency, and gets owned on high fastballs. KB is a guy who is an extremely boring star player - does not have any elite tools (instead is good at everything on the field which equals great advanced statistics), does not go on torrid hot streaks, and is decidedly terrible with runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs - so I think people underappreciste the aggregate production. But he needs to get going in AZ this weekend.

He's also one of the all time worst hitters with the bases loaded.

Well, Schwarber mucked up again.

Had one job to do and again looked like an idiot.
I agree. Theo needs to hope and pray Schwarber goes on a mini hot streak to up his trade value a bit.

Then dump his ass to some willing AL team for more pitching help. There will be some takers before too long, imo.

The first game Russell can come up for is next Friday's home game. I do not see him coming up for that. It makes it seem like a reward for minimal punishment. Kind of a, "we had to, buddy", suspension. I would not be upset at all if the Cubs didn't bring him up until the following road trip.
