*****Official Cubs 2019 thread*****

I still have no idea how, or if I'll get to watch the Cubs games next year, but after scrolling through eight channels to find the game tonight I guess the Cubs network and Deathstar Media (Sinclair), won't be so bad.

Hendricks sucked again last night.

Am I still supposed to be happy he was signed to a huge contract?
No, but take solace that it wasn't as big as the one given to Darvish, and drink some wine.
At least Hendricks wears his GD hat the right way!

I was impressed by Darvish last night (yes, I actually typed those words). The first two innings were awful, and he was very fortunate it did not get out of hand.

But he was able to mentally gather himself and put together a quality start. The offense coming up with 5 runs in the 3rd probably helped his mental state.

The next step for Yu is to pitch well in a game where he does not have a cozy lead.

Btw, Len was an idiot for casually proposing ending games at 12 innings as ties during regular season.

I missed the ending because I was cooking dinner, and then episode 3 of GoT. I missed the innings where the Cubs threatened, but didn't score. It seems like they got some great relief pitching, and kept grinding on offense. I did see the high lights on ESPN. I love Contreras trying to steal home given the situation. I loved the look of Almora ditching the helmet so his afro could flow in the breeze rounding 3rd. That just might be a Bake McBride level afro by the end of the season. He has said he isn't getting his hair cut this season.

Saw this on Twitter. If true, not a good look for the Cubs. Apparently the Cubs only want positive stories about Addison Russell’s return.
I am usually torn on anonymous sources. I don't think this rises to a situation where you need to be anonymous. And, the Cubs trying to improve coverage isn't something they just dreamt up. Nor, is it even confined to the world of sports. Everyone tries to shape coverage. I still have the feeling the Cubs want to trade him, and integral to that is shaping coverage. I am doe eyed a lot when it comes to sports, but, yeah, they have an asset they are trying to increase the value of.

Cubs won despite themselves.

Had tons of chances earlier, just didn’t take care of business.

Some days, that's just how it goes. In a sport where everyone basically wins at least 60 times and everyone basically loses at least 60 times, it's what you do in those other 42 that separates the good from the bad and that often means needing to scrape out a win when you play at less than your best.

I've been asked if my favorite flower was the "impatiens."

I can't figure out why people would ask that.o_O

Exactly. Even though the season is 162 games, every game counts and sometimes it isn’t pretty, but the win could be huge in late September. Look no further than the NL Central last year.

Russell started at 2B tonight for Des Moines. It is pretty clear that he will not replace Baez as the SS if/when he is returned to the MLB roster.

I don't think I'll be able to watch the whole game tonight due to the time zone, but it will be interesting to see Dan Vogelbach in action. He was a high pick by the Cubs, and the primary return for Mike Montgomery in a trade with the Mariners. I recall going up to CR to see him one afternoon, and I was just kind of taking in the game, but this old guy next to me was really dissecting how crappy Vogelbach was at 1B. Back on his heels, out of position, making bad reads… Well, he apparently has improved enough, and hits well enough to have made the bigs to start the year. I know he's had some service time, but he has 8 homers so far this year.

They just announced during the broadcast that Theo is in Seattle, and he told the media that Addison Russell will not join the team on Friday. He will be optioned to Des Moines.
Brandon Morrow had a cortisone shot for his ailing right arm. He will not attempt to pitch for at least 3 weeks. At this rate the Cubs will be lucky if he can be a September call up. My internal pessimism tells me he’ll never pitch for the Cubs again.
