*****Official Cubs 2019 thread*****

On the Score over the weekend Matt Spiegel was going over some stats for umpires, and Ted Barret was at the top of the list for missed ball/strikes. Now, i will not say computer calls for balls/strikes is an answer yet, but Barrett is inconsistent.
Foil of baseball fans everywhere, Joe West, was a top five performer when it comes to missed calls.
He really had both teams barking at him. Some of the bad calls were beyond what you’d see at a college game.

Over 500 and two games back! I will take that after our putrid first three series!

The Cubs are starting to look like they will save the
job of Manager Joe Maddon. Perhaps Theo Epstein
can stop taking his high blood pressure medicine.

There's actually a lot to like about this team. It IS still largely the team that won 95 games last year. I love the new-look Heyward, hitting balls hard again. Schwarber, Rizzo and KB have been disappointing, but enough other guys are picking up the slack that they're getting by. Rizzo will be fine and seems to be heating up the past few games. KB and Schwarbs are pressing, though KB has absolutely torched some outs recently, so hopefully he'll break through soon.

Lester may be back Thursday, Montgomery is making his 2nd rehab start and Russell will go to AAA next week. It'll be interesting to see what kind of roster moves the Cubs make. They need to drop someone from the 40-man to make room for Russell when he comes back from suspension, so I'm guessing they'll try to float a minor league arm through waivers. I'd love to see Chatwood pull together another couple good outings (starts or otherwise). If he can show more command, then either he or Montgomery could be dealt for bullpen depth.

Rizzo seems to be waking up from his annual early-season funk.

KB is not right. I’m worried about that shoulder.

Schwarber looks completely lost. What happened to him? If he’s not careful, he’ll be the one sent down when Russell comes back. Does Schwarber have options left?

Montgomery will be traded for a bullpen arm. He wants to be a starter. They’re stretching him out right now. He’s going to be a number 4/5 rotation guy for someone. Hopefully this can land the Cubs a closer. Maybe throw Russell in if necessary.

Everyone else is playing great. REALLY need to get Javy locked up with an extension. That kid is a superstar and arguably the face of the team.

Schwarber is the one who worries me the most. There are times, as you said, he just looks like he's befuddled out there, plus there's no confidence any more.

I think Bryant can still be an effective player with decent/good defense and base running, and he's still getting on base at a decent clip. To me it looks like he's still favoring the shoulder; seems to drop the elbow when he swings causing him to pop-up quite a bit (at least in my observations). I'd actually like to see him drop a bunt here or there, make the other team rethink their shifting on him. I'd also like to see if he's able to drive down on pitches a bit more.

Launch angle. He's trying too hard to get the ball in the air. He just needs to go back to swinging like he did when he was MVP, don't try so hard to get the ball up, and just let his swing take care of it.

Kris Bryant is not 100% healthy. He still does not look
comfortable in the batter's box. His shoulder motion is
not natural. You wonder if he is postponing some type
of needed surgery.

Baez’s crazy success is giving me anxiety. I really hope they’re working on a long-term contract extension.
