It's not that they lost... it's HOW they lost. And to the worst team in MLB...at home. It's one out of 162. Go win the rest of this series.

Well, not when your closer walks to the mound with a five gallon can of gasoline and a zippo.I get that, but let's see how the series goes. You don't get many 4-game sweeps.

Okay, who would you rather have as your closer:Cubs actually have a few nice pieces to trade for bullpen help — Montgomery, Russell and Happ. It’s going to happen, probably soon. Bruce Levine was just on the radio saying Detroit closer, Shane Greene, might be an option. 13 saves and recently named AL reliever of the month.
Don't compound mistakes you've already made by chasing and making bigger mistakes. Signing Kimbrel would be a reactionary decision made from a position of weakness and a big mistake. Identify an undervalued asset that you feel is on the upswing and go after them.
I like the Greene guy from Detroit. Former starter converted to closer and has been on an upward trajectory as he's grown into the position the last few years.
Yep. Not worth getting him until June, then you have a period where he needs to get into game shape, there's that break-in period where he works out the kinks once he hits the majors, kind of like a guy coming back from injury not being full 100% and on their game right away. The only good part about it is he should be very fresh for the stretch run and the playoffs. More often than not signings like this end up a disaster.I'm still surprised that Kimbrell and Keuchel haven't been signed....but at this point, on top of all the stuff already discussed, I think they're big injury risks. They didn't have a normal spring. They're not getting regular work now. I'm sure they're working out, throwing sims and all that, but it's not the same. If the Cubs sign Kimbrell, he's going to have to go down for likely extended spring and then maybe do something much like a rehab stint before they put him in the bullpen.
It's only going to get worse because I don't think anyone is going to sign him until June, when the comp pick Boston would get goes away.
I would absolutely kick those tires. He and his agent overplayed their hand, but he is still effective. Maybe only as an 8th inning guy, but the bullpen needs showing up. Too many types that deserve to be in Des Moines. At least Kimbrel has been in the fire and wouldn't wilt. He might give up a bomb or two, but he won't piss his pants on the mound.Giving kimbrell anything more than a 1 year deal is crazy. There’s a reason no one has signed him, he is clearly on the downside of his career.
The Cubs are going to have to address the bullpen at some point. I still think they'll wind up dealing Montgomery for a back-end bullpen arm. Sunday's homers aside, I also think Chatwood could become a really useful arm out of the pen.
That said, I'm still not freaking out over one terrible loss.[/QUOTE]
Freaking out is good for you. It keeps you young and vital.
Although it's extremely early in the season and a lot can happen... this sure looks like a year where it's Dodgers/Cubs vs Houston in October. The Yankees injury situation rules them out, imo.
So... Cubs aren't beating LA with that shitstorm of a bullpen. Pull the trigger now before a few other teams with playoff probability do. The only reason Theo waits is if he's going to dangle Schwarber before the deadline.

Maybe Edwards is fixed mentally to return to being a solid 7th-8th inning guy.
Strop had no excuse for pitching like a complete pile of crap, then laughing about it on the bench. I would have kicked his ass all the way back to South Bend. Not even let him near his locker, let him fend for himself.Strop had a sub-3.00 ERA for the Cubs from 2013-2018. Last night was bad, but he has been a terrific RP for the Cubs.
As for smiling in the dugout, I didn't see it, but don't care. Part of being a good RP is not dwelling on your failures and having a short memory.
I blame Strop and Schwarber.smoke the Cards
lose to Miami
Makes sense
If your wife wakes up in the middle of the night because you are talking in your sleep, which name is she most likely to be hearing? Anna, or GD Schwarber!!What the hell was taking Schwarber so long to get to 2nd base??!! Was he running with a piano on his back?
