*****Official Cubs 2019 thread*****

The Yankees last year were the most overrated 100 win team ever, might see a repeat this year. And another early playoff exit to follow once they have to play an actual good team.
Well, it's pretty safe to say they'd likely win 115 games if they played in the NL Central... aka the race to the bottom.

Lester has gone from looking lost at the plate with no ability to make good contact in 2015 to closing in on batting 200 and clubbing doubles and home runs by 2019.

This is why I refuse to be a convert to the DH. It is not too much to ask for a pitcher to be able to contribute to their team offensively. Today was an outlier, but Lester was useless at the plate when he joined the Cubs. He has worked at that aspect of his game. Pitchers will never match DHs, but I’d rather have them try, come through occasionally, and make the managers work a little harder than just stuff a one dimensional player in the batting order.

His batting avg, OBP, and slugging are all higher than Russell and Almora. Then again, Russell is only 244 points higher than mine and I don't even play.

I’ll keep feeding the troll just for the sake of embarrassing you.

No metrics out there agree with you. So, I’ll side with objective data over the subjective opinion of a know-nothing blowhard.

Keep going... please.

Your ignorance is quite entertaining.

You’re the only one laughing.
Of course I'm laughing! There are only about three posters in this thread that truly realize how pathetic the Tallest Midget, aka NL Central, really is.

Everyone else thinks it's just "balanced".

Your ignorance of actual baseball is astounding. There are 5 teams in the American League with less than 40 wins. Hell, there are 2 with less than 30. In the National League, only Miami is less than 40 wins. But keep on talking how the American League is soooo much better. The American League is very top heavy and nobody in in the middle, whereas the National League has the Dodgers, and a little behind them the Braves, then a bunch packed. That bunch is a lot harder to pull away from than the bottom of the American League.

Take your stupid Yankee/ AL drivwl somewhere else.

The line up isn’t out for today, but if Javy starts at SS and he gets hit by a pitch, or just takes one under the chin he is going to charge the mound. It would be nice if the crew chief showed some leadership before the game starts. It’s getting tense.

Cubs 90+ games over .500 in the second half over the last 5 years.

Next best team is 30 games behind.

Quintana did well. Had a tough, what was it, 3rd inning? Couple of balls that may have been caught with more aggressive defense, but some of the hard hit balls were on him. Other than that he was solid.
Good offense, too, after taking it on the chin from Pittsburgh before the break.

Good win.

St. Louis and Milwaukee are not going to catch the
Cubs. The Cubs have a more balanced offensive
attack and better starting pitching. Joe Maddon saves
his job and is signed for another 5 years.

I think this has been discussed before, but I thought the Cubs had a $1 million buyout on Descalso for 2020. I was listening to Cubs beat writer Mark Gonzalez on the Score a bit ago and he said he is guaranteed his full contract through next season, and there is a buyout of 2021. He said he mentioned it to Descalso in ST because this means he is guaranteed a 10 year pension since he has 8 years of service time already.
It isn't huge money, but a total of $2.5 million wasted on Descalso next year could be the difference between getting a bullpen arm you want, or seeing that player sign somewhere else.
