*****Official Cubs/Card Thread*****

Is Lackey always this emotional? The crowd is going to be all over him the rest of the game.

NL fans always tell me that their managers/players know the game better than the AL... that sure is on display this game...

I'm surprised to see Rodney in there. How many innings did he pitch for the Cubs this year?

After very careful consideration, I am convinced Mike Matheny is an idiot game manager.

This is 4 years in the playoffs now that he's been out-managed. Utter stupidity thinking Seigrist is going to get guys out he's been giving up bombs to and thinking the outcome is going to change.

Wa! Wa! Wa@!

All he has done is make excuses about this series. Cubs are just flat out better this year, he's in denial. Cards are a better franchise historically but not this year.

The Cubs are better right now. They finished 3 games out during the season. Those are facts you cannot argue ever.

I'd like to see the Cubs without Lester and Arrieta in the playoffs. Your 1-3 starters are Hammel, Haren and Hendricks. Think you win the series then?

No excuses though, you beat St. Louis fair and square, you earned it, and congratulations.

Wait till David Price signs....maybe they add Heyward, Zobrist,or Alex Gordon

I can see Price (although he doesn't seem to be of much use in the playoffs)...but positionally speaking, the Cubs need nothing.

And who the eff do the Cards have after Lackey that is going to shut down a powerful lineup like the Cubs? Wacha? How'd that work out last night?

Nobody in the St. Louis lineup scares a pitcher. They
did not have a long ball threat who could change a
game around. They had no bench to carry them through
their injuries.

Cubs have the opportunity to run the table right through
the World Series. Arietta and Lieber are the studs of
the staff. Rizzo and Bryant are the big boppers at bat.

My gawd Cubs fans...I don't know to make it any friggin' clearer. You deserved to win the series and were the better team.

It'd have been nice if Wainwright was starting, if Martinez was there, if Molina and Holliday were truly healthy - to then play the series. But they weren't. And St. Louis lost. The Cubs were better, and that's a fact.

I'll sleep well tonight. I've lost 10 of these the last 16 years. In my lifetime, we've been to 18 playoffs and won 4 times.

68, 85, 87, 96, 00, 01, 02, 04, 05, 09, 12, 13, 14, 15...

Here's a text a buddy of mine, a Royals fan - sent me after the game. He was rooting for the Cubs in this series because him mom and dad are lifelong Cubs fans.

"Let's not start sucking each other's dicks quite yet Cubs fans. This ain't the world series."

That is what I call perspective.

Cubbies were hot going into the playoffs and the Cards limped along most of September. I don't think the Cards would have beat the Cubs or the Pirates this year. Injuries caught up to a team that had no business winning 100+ games.

Here's to a Cubs/KC World Series now that St. Louis is eliminated.

To be fair, you're a Cardinals fan you've been there before. Royals fans were just as excited as Cubs fans last year as they won their way through the playoffs. Let the Cubs fans be excited. This is their first playoff win in 12 years and first series clincher in Wrigley. You are coming off as a sore loser, Cardinals fans (and I am one) have had our time in the past. Let the Cubs fans enjoy it as much as they want.

Fred, I get that, and I know it's pure joy they're feeling.

I just never have gotten the idea of rubbing it in the face of the team you just beat. Celebrate the fact you won, period.

"We just beat a really good team," Rizzo said. "They know how to win. They've dealt with so many injuries and they still were the best team in baseball. How they did that, no one has any idea. I think some of their guys don't even know how they did it, but that's a credit to their organization and how good they are."
