All,

Thought we could use a change of pace this week and start the official game thread a day early. I'm still licking my wounds after the Penn St game and I think it's best that we rally around the troops this weekend. I still luv my hawks and think the sky is the limit with this team. Stan the man has obviously proven himself to not only be a top B1G, but one of the tops in the nation, and we all know what AWad is capable of on the ground. The Outlaw continues to anchor one of the stingiest defenses in the country, and I gotta say I'm a fan of the bend but don't break philosophy.

Keys:
-Must win the turnover battle
-Stan the man must go for 200 yds 2 TDs 0 INTs
-AWad must get at least 100 on the ground
-Constant pressure on the Michigan St QB
-Lastly, just play Iowa football. Run the ball, control the clock, eliminate big plays from Mich St, and the Hawks should come out of E Lansing with the W.

Iowa 23
MSU 21

Also, forgot to mention I'll be in East Lansing tailgating in parking lot C if anyone wants to come party. Will have all the tailgating games setup and miller high life for anyone that wants to stop by for a beer. Ping if interested.

Luv the enthusiasm.

Safe travels on the road.

I originally had this game as an L in the preseason prediction thread. After seeing how well Iowa could play at times last week, I'd like to change that, but I really am not sure how Iowa responds after that heartbreaker.

I'll take MSU in a close one.

The importance of this game cannot be underestimated. Coming off a tough loss last week we can't afford to drop another one psychologically. And with a challenging schedule coming up we need to win the games that we should win, including this one. This game could be the difference between a 11-1/10-2 season and and 8-4 season.

Not sold on our defense or Brian's play calling yet. Hopefully it all comes together tomorrow.

I will make this prediction: Stanley finally connects on one (or more!) of his long passes.

Defense is fine. The bend but don't break philosophy is genius and Phil Parker continues to show why he's one of the best. I don't care care if you give up 800 yards of offense as long as you keep the point total low which is exactly what he did against probably a top 5 offense in the country.

Big game for Iowa but a season defining game for MSU. We lose this game and it's hard seeing us better than 5 or 6 wins. After this we play at Mich and at Minny

Minnesota isn't that good. I can see Michigan State winning that one. Just gotta control the clock and run them down then throw in a little play action over the top. Minnesota's D is god awful.

Forgot to add in my original post, I also predict Dantonio will continue to be a sleazeball. Feel really confident about that one for some reason.

Yes but we are almost a lock to lose in Ann Arbor and if we lose to you that means we are 2-3 and on a 3 game skid. I fear our coaches could lose the team again.

I am actually flying to Minny for that have have a good bud who lives there.

Nice. Where do you plan on partying at? Stub & Herb's?

You never know! Everyone thought you were a lock to lose to Michigan last year too and you put up one hell of a fight. Crazy stuff happens during instate rivalries and you can throw records out the door. Personally, I don't think Michigan is that great. Last week they were afraid of losing to Purdue and this week they're talking about a playoff appearance.

Special Teams Coordinator, LeVar Woods doesn't get enough credit. Our special teams always outplays the opposition i.e. blocked FG last weekend, and makes sure not to give up field position on kick/punt returns. I just thought I would point that out. When a guy deserves credit you give him credit, and that's what LeVar deserves.

Team should vote on it

Iowa needs to win the turnover battle
Needs to be able to run the ball
Stanley needs to hit for about 250 yards
Ball control ... ball control
MSU has Michigan next week - but I don't think it will be looking past Iowa
I envision a 23-17 game ... or 23-20 ... I'm torn down the middle on who wins ... Iowa is the more experienced team ... This game will tell us a lot about which direction we are heading for the remainder of 2017 ...

Same for MSU it's eery how similar game plans are. Both teams need to run the ball and not turn it over. Both teams have talented but young QBs that don't seem ready yet to put the team on their shoulders.

Spot on! MSU and Iowa are so similar in many ways. And yes, both teams will need to (and want to) establish the run ...

The only chance Iowa was going to score a touchdown on MSU in the big ten title game was on a hail mary like they did. Iowa couldn't move the football for anything.

Man our DL was nasty. All 4 guys are in the league. Heath, McDowell, Calhoun and Thomas. Animals. That's why MSU dominated 2013-2015...yes we had overall good teams but were very strong in trenches.

We are young right now due to attrition and won't be able to compete with the top teams on the lines again until next year.

Every single time I've participated in one of these threads Iowa has lost. I will not make a prediction.

Watching YouTube videos from mcnutts winning td in 2009 Wooooo. Luv my hawks. This just shows me like always there's no quit in our hawks.

GO HAWKS!

I think BF needs to break out a trick play or 2 tmrw to give our hawks an edge. I would stay old school and go with the fleet flicker. What y'all think? No reason to get too cute this early in the big ten season.

Or, maybe alot of it is the new special teams guy they hired who spent his career in the nfl as a special teams guy? I think he desrves the most credit
