*****Official Iowa vs Utah St game thread*****

seems that the all the coaches on here spend half their time “negatively” posting and very little time watching anything other than the ball. for those who missed the rest of the game it was conner coming in with the other subs that got the ball reversed that helped open up our offense while eliminating their pick and roll …no easy drives to the basket. our defense was as good as I have seen it during most of the second half. lastly…I like Josh, however, at this point he is not a big ten center. those that think he is need to realize their knowledge limitations.

Kris is playing starter minutes since the competition has gotten better. Who cares if he starts.

And it seems that he offsets Keegan’s time off the court. They play several minutes together and then Keegan gets a breather. At least in the first half of games.

Tonight, Kris kind of got the raw end in the first half. Rebraca was lost/tired and Kris was at the scorer’s table ready to check in. The game never had a dead ball for several minutes and US went on a run. I wish FM would have called a TO a few possessions sooner, but it worked out.

Sure about that? In the last 3 games Kris has averaged around 17 minutes per game. Do you consider that starter minutes? Seems on the low side to me. I think most starters average over 20 minutes per game with the exception of Joe who has seen his minutes tumble the last few games.

Average minutes over the past 3 games for players not named Keegan are:
Patrick 23
JBo 23
Perkins 23
Rebraca 21
Ulis 20
Kris 17

Not exactly starter minutes. Puts him at number 7. His minutes haven't really changed much if any as the competition has improved.

Why didn’t you think they could win this? We we’re clearly the better team, I personally thought 70/30 Iowa and a healthy Keegan helped a ton.

I have always loved Joe T and his energy and tenacity but Ulis just brings more steadiness and consistency.
Once again Joe over commits on the steal attempt multiple times and leaves his team mates hanging on defense going 4 against 5. Settles correctly pointed it out in the first half. I think Fran has rightly left Ulis in for longer stretches as he has been more consistent, and Frankly think he might move him in as the starter if he didn't think that it would adversely effect Joe T emotionally.

I'm a huge Joe supporter but he has to stop overcommitting on those steal attempts that aren't there. Personally I think Joe is already struggling mentally over the past several games as he's seen his minutes diminish and it's affecting his game.

Ulis defends the passing lanes instead of lunging for steals. Better defender.

Surprised to consistently see so much Fran slander in these threads.
Maybe it’s because the two coaches I grew up with (Alford & Lick) were absolute clowns, and I attended those Lick games that had us losing to teams like San Antonio State..

I for one appreciate the hell out of Fran. Not only what he’s done for the program, but how he’s represented the university and the values he stands for. We’re lucky to have him.

We won a tournament game, put two players in the draft, and again look to at least be a solid tournament team.. we would’ve killed for that less than 10 years ago. Grass ain’t always greener.

nice to win and I always prefer wins.

Shooting 55% from field and Keegan going off for 35 pts covers up for defense giving up 49% shooting.. Iowa also outrebounded them, but they were the smallest/least athletic Top150 team we will face for the rest of the season. I thought they most closely resembled a Northwestern of the B1G teams in athleticism, yet they were
willing to play a fast pace.

This was a must win. Rebounding and defense need to be consistently good for this team to get to 0.500 or better in B1G.
