******Utah vs Iowa Game Thread******

OK, good win but bad basketball. WTF were they doing defensively having Ladji switch on high posts to leave a guard playing against a 7ft'er? Ladji needs to flash out for the stop and switch back to his man.

And Harding throwing up circus layups looking like a YMCA scrub. Yeah he had a couple nice 3's, but this was not a good game from him.

And Freeman???? WTF, reaching on that 4th foul??? He hasn't learned anything defensively. Can't really blame Fran for his silly ass fouls.

But a nice revenge win from that NIT drubbing Utah gave em last year.
The switching was definitely the right move.

It stopped them from taking 3s off the ball screen which they were hitting all night.

Is he as good as JoeW?
Not as an NBA prospect,probably.
My comp?
Jerry West.
Dix is a more well rounded player than Weiskamp. Joe was a better shooter thus far, but I think Dix can also be an elite shooter.

Folks saying Iowa doesn't have a backcourt, are nuts. Dix, Harding and Thewell are balling. Iowa's weakness is with the forwards. Iowa needs more from the forward position, in particular with rebounding.

5 dudes in double-figs...almost 6

don't see that in many box scores...

There once was a dude named Dix
He's always got the Hawks' six
He's got the moves like Jagger
Makes the other team stagger
Chose Fran over many other picks...
Good effort.

One too many syllables in last line.

More like 6'4.5". Yah it is at his weight. He's not lu dort. It's way small for a 3.
He's always been listed at 6'6.

You can't just make up your own measurement to help your argument.

Even at 6'5 that's not undersized. I could find you plenty of guys that play the 2/3 that are 6'5.

Not 3 and d guys. Yes ball dominant creators. No way he's 6'6". You have to built like pj tucker with long arms at that height to guard nba wings. Dix has neither.

OK, we'll see who ends up being correct.

And again your entire premise is based on you making up a different height for a player based on nothing but your imagination.

Mine is based on how he has done against nba talent.

If you do a quick look at nba rosters you'll see plenty of 6'5 role players.

He only needed to stop the ball & then switch back so there's not a glaring mismatch underneath. Can't have BH trying to guard a big. There were times when after switching on the pick n roll Ladji's was 2 passes away. This is when he needs to get his butt back in the lane.

I agree you need to switch back if possible but they had been trying all game unsuccessfully to hedge on the shooter and we're getting torched.

The only way to eliminate the opponent's option to shoot off the screen is to switch it.

At that point you'd rather give up 2 down low than 3s to a guy who was unconscious.

Dix is a MUCH better ball handler than Weiskamp was and has a much better all around game.

We’ve had a weak guard court for so long I think people have forgotten what good guards look like. Dix, Harding and Thelwell are fun to watch.

Wondering if you have any thoughts on this Austin Reaves vs Brandon Podzeimisky matchup tonight?

This.

Might be one of the better backcourts of the Fran era. We're hurting up front minus Freeman.

Dembele is such an enigma to this point. He has the frame...hopefully he turns the corner. Seems to have found his shot the last couple games but needs to be a force on the boards and interior D.

Dembele has been better lately but I wish he’d use his size and be a monster on the boards, but I’m not sure you can develop that trait. Some just have the ability.

I dont think that Dembele has the quickness necessary to be a great rebounder.

Dembele seems to be too concerned about guarding or boxing out his man (always reaching his arm out). He just needs to go after the damn ball, and let his strength do the rest. Can someone please teach him to go up and dunk the ball on offensive rebounds.

Fully agree about the backcourt (Fran's best) and Dix in particular. Josh has all the tools, and knows how to use them. Like Keegan, he is even better on the defensive end. He doesn't seem that quick or strong, but he surprises opponents and they don't test him again.
