The Hamas caucus

Nine Democrats opposed the resolution: Reps. Jamaal Bowman (N.Y.), André Carson (Ind.), Cori Bush (Mo.), Al Green (Texas), Summer Lee (Pa.), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.), Ilhan Omar (Minn.), Delia Ramirez (Ill.) and Rashida Tlaib (Mich.). Republican Rep. Thomas Massie (Ky.) joined them.

Any shred of respect I still had for AOC is gone. Fvcking disgraceful.

Egypt official tells Europe to take in 1m Gazans if ‘you care about human rights so much’

A senior Egyptian official has reportedly mockingly demanded that Europe take in one million Gazan refugees if it cares “about human rights so much”, as Cairo continues to grow ever more frustrated with pressure to open its border crossing with the besieged Gaza Strip and take in fleeing Palestinians.

According to the Financial Times, an anonymous European official was informed of Egypt’s frustration with the European and Western nations’ insistence on accepting refugees waiting at the Rafah crossing on the Egypt-Gaza border. “You want us to take one million people?” an unnamed senior Egyptian official asked him. “Well, I am going to send them to Europe. You care about human rights so much – well, you take them.”

The European official stressed to the paper that the “Egyptians are really, really angry” at the pressure on them to open the border crossing and take in the roughly one million Gazans attempting to seek refuge from Israel’s ongoing bombardment of the besieged land strip.

One of Israel’s key aims in the intensification of its bombardment of Gaza and its people is to push Palestinians in the Strip further to the south to the Rafah border in order to force them into exile within Egypt’s Sinai desert.

Cairo has, so far, resisted these efforts by reinforcing its border with concrete blocks. Although it has attempted to claim good intentions such as not wanting to see the Palestinians further displaced from their land, the Egyptian government’s main reasoning is its fear that the longer Israel’s assault on Gaza continues, the more Egypt will face pressure to accept an inflow of refugees and the economic burden that comes with them.

If Palestinians are eventually allowed to cross the Egypt-Gaza border, there is reportedly the real possibility that they would be allowed only as far as the 8.5-mile buffer zone in Rafah, meaning they could be trapped in a state of limbo.

I feel like something like this has happened before but I just can't put my finger on it. Something about people not wanting immigrants coming into their land and so they do something with the immigrants so others have to take them. Boy I just can't remember what they did, but I'll keep thinking.

Exactly. I'm embarrassed that our country supports a nation hell bent on bombing civilians and supports apartheid. We're on the wrong side of history here.

I think folks recoil at that statement because they view it to mean you must be on the side of Hamas, and that this situation only has those two sides for us to choose from.

Can you elaborate on the sides you see, and which one you think history is on?

We most certainly are not. The Palestinians are ruled by evil people hell bent on the destruction of Israel. They are the enemies of coexistence. Enemies of peace. Enemies of equal rights. Enemies of personal expression and freedom.

There is no excusing them and being on their side is the wrong side. Period. Thats you.

They come from a set of beliefs that has been morphed into an excuse for violence and oppression. Why the rest of peaceful Islam hasn't beaten this down is a shock to me. Except, I get it, they themselves probably fear for their lives and anyone that stands in the way of radical Islams world view does so at their own risk. Significant risk.

You know what country is actually Palestine by a large proportion? Jordan. Why isnt the Arab world calling on them to allow these vermin into their homeland? Because the Palestinians are simply the useful idiots in the Arab world's struggle against the west and their own failures to produce peace and prosperity. This is why a 2 state solution isnt possible. No Arab nation of any power (Iran) wants that.

If I was President I'd tell the rest of the Jew hating world to screw off and support Israel and confront Iran. I just cant see how this current power dynamic plays out in any other way. What Europe thinks, what the UN thinks and what the rest of the Arab world (Turkey) thinks is irrelevant. Western civilization is at an inflection point. Do we stand up to evil now and exterminate it or do we 'see both sides' and plant our heads in the proverbial sand and hope this works itself out? That is ignorant of everything we have come to know about Radical Islam.

Grow the hell up. See the world as it is and stop seeing it as you wish it would be. Your're a patsy and exactly the type of guy that Iran and Hamas are playing to while they attempt to confront western ideals, prosperity and freedom that is the antithesis of their repressive world view.

Good thoughts. I will add, I think Hamas was more "successful", than they ever could have dreamed. The stories drifting out so far show that the Israeli response was so slow that Hamas was able to redo their plans on the fly. They only planned to take a few hostages back to Gaza, but wound up with 200. The bulk of the plan was to hold in Israel and hold a series of bloody standoffs with the IDF.
The carnage was so great in Israel, and the large number of hostages has inflamed passions in Israel and the West far beyond what Hamas and Iran anticipated.
Yes, there are a number of questions that need to be answered about Israel's preparedness and response to the attack. As soon as Hamas started to breach the border, why weren't there warplanes and helicopters responding to blow the hell out of the invaders? You have to ask, were they that unprepared for an attack, or did they suspect that it was going to happen and basically let it happen? If the latter, my guess is they way underestimated the magnitude of the attack.

Israel is one of the most corrupt evil nations in the world. Their treatment of Palestinians will be in the history books as one of the major atrocities in world history along with the holocaust and the European slave trade. The US supporting them puts us on the wrong side of history.

Israel would live for eternity in peace if people would just leave them the f alone. This lie that they strike Arabs when all the Arabs want is peace is an absurdity. Like actually. You keep believing what you do. Why haven’t you sacrificed yourself for their Jihad? The virgins await…..

Not all Palestinians are Islamic. You should really leave Iowa for once and stop watching all of the fear mongering propaganda Murdoch is feeding you.

I'm not super versed in the details, but my understanding is that Palestinian neighborhoods get destroyed, and then rebuilt as Israeli settlements in the West Bank, and this process is a slow grind.
The situation is not static, and there is a perception of unremitting encroachment.

Demolition of Palestinian property is a method Israel has used in the Israeli-occupied territories since they came under its control in the Six-Day War to achieve various aims. Broadly speaking, demolitions can be classified as either administrative, punitive/dissuasive and as part of military operations.[1] The Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions estimated that Israel had razed 55,048 Palestinian structures as of 2022.[2] Administrative house demolitions are done to enforce building codes and regulations, which in the occupied Palestinian territories are set by the Israeli military.[3] Critics claim that they are used as a means to Judaize parts of the occupied territory, especially East Jerusalem.[4]
...
Dr. Meir Margalit of Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions writes:

"The thinking is that a national threat calls for a national response, invariably aggressive. Accordingly, a Jewish house without a permit is an urban problem; but a Palestinian home without a permit is a strategic threat. A Jew building without a permit is 'cocking a snook at the law'; a Palestinian doing the same is defying Jewish sovereignty over Jerusalem."

I get it. I simply can’t understand why the Palestinians, beyond reason, won’t be satisfied living anywhere else in the area.

As I have stated Jordan is Palestine. Why can’t Jordan give up land for peace? Why can’t Palestinians simply integrate there?

The lives of the Palestinians are under such existential threat why not seek safety and independence elsewhere? Lots of Islamic friendly real estate in the area. Yet they insist upon settling in a small area they feel they have a right to. It isn’t as if it’s a huge piece of land that they feel that they have a right to. This is a small sliver of land.

Arabs have no reason to feel unsafe in the area. Jews for centuries have been under constant threat and persecution. Recently by Arabs. There is no other safe place for a Jewish homeland in the region.

I think the most genuine answer boils down to magic dirt, er, sacred soils, or somefink.

I think the U.S. should instead offer to host the Israelis.
Move them into the desert in Utah, next to that big, inland, salt sea, and tell’em, ‘welcome home’.

They have instant 2/3rd majority in the state government, so they enjoy a degree of sovereignty all while nestled in the safe bosom of Uncle Sam.

There are not many countries where I think you could export the population to the U.S. and expect to see a genuine economic boon. Imagine if more of their efforts could be put into fields other than shooting down Katyushas.
Seems less absurd that cramming a few million poor people, with vengeance on their mind, into neighboring countries.

I think folks ignore the intent behind the demolition of thousands of Palestinian homes to carve new Israeli settlements.

I said it before sincerely. This is an Indian War, they just fell out of fashion globally.

Israel founded in 1847 instead of 1947 might have gotten away with handling things differently.

Link to homes?

Wait it's not common knowledge that Israel keeps stealing more and more land from the Palestinians? Lol
Palestinians have no land. They have no country. They had land in 1947. Went to war and lost it. Lost more in the 6 day war in 1967.

Israel has been generous to give any of it back. At all.

Land you lose in war isn’t rightfully yours anymore. That’s the victor/spoils thing. Maybe you’ve heard if it. Do you believe in this? Or when you go to war do you get all the land back you had prior to being conquered?

The Palestinians are the worlds biggest losers. Over and over. And because they know this in their souls they resort to soulless murder and horrors beyond imagination.

Tell your buddies to come out, fight like men, and let’s finish this thing. Plenty of land in south Israel where we could hold a civilian free battle royale amongst Hamas and Israel and see where it ends.

Conquest has been banned since 1945.

Palestine has a right to return to their land under UN resolutions and international treaties like the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a legally binding international treaty.

Israel are occupiers. This isn't a video game and you are very uninformed.

Israel is committing war crimes and crimes against humanity with impunity.

We are on the wrong side of history supporting them.

Wow. Someone stole their land and murders innocent civilians. I can't imagine why anyone would want them dead. 🙄

Agree. It is crazy Palestinians continue to kill innocent civilians. They continue to believe Israelis don’t have the right to exist. you appear to have that same mentality. You should go be a freedom (wait, -Palestinians hate freedom) fighter in the West Bank. You would fit in well there.

Hamas killed innocent civilians. Israel kills innocent Palestinians.

Israel is illegaly occupying Palestinian land.

What would you do if someone showed up with a military and forced you out of your house, placed some other people there and then made you live on a shitty lot right next door, not letting you leave and controlled the resources you were provided and if you ever protested they bombed your friends and family. Would you embrace them with open arms?

Lol at you believing Palestinians haven’t killed innocent Israelis.

Now. What would you do if the people around you didn’t believe you had the right to exist? Wanted you dead. Invaded your homeland and decapitated your children. Constantly bombed your homeland to the point you need protection like the iron dome? The list goes on.

I haven’t seen anyone on this board claim Israel is all good as you claim. You, however, sure seem to think Palestinians are all good. That’s ****ing comedy at its finest.

Israel are occupying Palestinian land. Stop calling it the Israeli's homeland. That is factually incorrect.

You never answered my question.

I don't condone killing innocent civilians ever, but one country has rocks and the other country is basically a multi billion dollar military facility. To act like they are on equal footing is asinine.

I also have never claimed all Palestinians are good, but I do know that Israel doesn't discriminate with who they are bombing. They are a trash country.

Steal? The Arab nations attacked Israel and started a war. Israel won. To the victor go the spoils. Should have kicked the Palestinians out the next day.

Even then, Israel ended up giving a huge tract of land they won in that war back to Egypt.

Honestly, if I were China, I'd probably just sit tight and say nice things about peace. Before too long, what most of the world will see is that pretty much every so-called "power" is at war...except China, who will love bomb them with moon cakes and aid as the "peaceful" partner.

China deployed six ships to the middle east including a guided missile destroyer.
