Not period.

Some kids want to be the guy and actually wrestle.
Maybe but everyone has a price and can be bought this why psu retains multiples. Everyone says the hawks money is not their limiting factor so why not build the war chest. Injuries can and will happen as we have all seen with the hawks in the past. WTH happens when teemer and Stephen go down with shoulder injuries. Paying a few is a cheap and safe bet.

Maybe this was true for PSU in the past, but I’d be surprised if it continued. High level stud recruits like Sealy may find there is no room at the inn. I doubt he or other studs will stick around for their entire eligibility to be room guys.

There's no maybe about it. It's their last year of eligibility and money wouldn't keep them here.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I would take less to wrestle my senior year as a starter than collect more and sit on the bench. I don't blame them at all for transferring. It wasn't a loyalty thing imo, but more of a I want to wrestle my last year of eligibility thing.

I know this was a different time before NIL and the Wild West we have today but go back to the season that ESPN did and listen to Tom and his comments on Budke having to “earn it” and at the end, direct quote “what I will not tolerate are guys telling me what they are going to do when you aren’t living up to the standard that the administration, the fans, the tradition expects.”

Even more so now if you aren’t cutting it, prepare to be replaced as everyone is replaceable. I love the hawks and think this applies to the wrestlers on the team as well as the staff. I’ve been in the camp for a while now that change needs to happen within the staff and each year of 3rd or 5th at the national tournament only makes think that more and more.

Tnt have proven time and time again they don't handle this correctly management wise. Ramos, Gilman, and now multitude of others.
Not buying it. If TnT had been winning championships, you wouldn't be thinking like this. If I remember correctly, Ramos misunderstood the matside support for Dennis at team trials, and Gilman is, well, Gilman. That "multitude of others" could stay. They chose to leave. Free country.

If TnT leave and some bozo gets hired, we will miss them.

I will watch the injuries compile as the season unravels. Go get um boys
Well if you want to continue on the NFL analogy you better start paying the third string guys in the room as well. Teams get into their 3rd string qbs a decent amount of time.
Oh and get the NIL revenue into the billions.

Somewhat agree, except for your last sentence...Iowa won't hire some bozo.

It's, arguably, the second best job in the country.

I'm a big believer in loyalty, but in this day and age I don't think a coach can go about it in the way you described. "Hey wrestler, don't tell anyone but you didn't finish where we thought you could/would so we're going after a replacement for you." And then, "Oops, we didn't get a replacement so we're hoping you're still on the team bus." Are you kidding me? But more than that, think of all the poor attitudes while the search is going on...because nobody is keeping that shit a secret; they're going to be pissed, hurt, etc. In the end, I don't think there's an easy way to do what needs to be done.

Back to the loyalty piece, I think the coach(es) need to show the wrestlers all the love they can while still understanding that the loyalty is to the University and to the fan base. And for a school like Iowa, the wrestlers sure to God know that (barring injury) if they don't at least AA there should be no expectations to be a starter the following year, and that they're right back in the mix just like what we have at 74 this year. Back in the mix and may the best man win. Hell, even Caliendo, who was a returning AA had to come in and battle PK for the starting nod at 65.

Loyalty to the wrestler in the manner you're discussing? I think not.
All I'm saying is I hope they weren't blindsided by it. Again, no idea how it went down, but there is no reason why there wouldn't be a sit down conversation to tell them what's going on and who they're going after. "Zach, we love you, you've given us your all for 4 years and not many can do that. We want to let you know we're going after Buchanan. Not sure how it will work out, but we want you to stay here."
Communicating with them, no matter how hard it might be is absolutely the right thing to do - and I hope they did. If you don't agree with that, that's fine, but that's where I stand. Have a conversation man to man.

Didn't listen to the Cobe interview, but if he sounds like things are fine between them, that's great. Communication seems to be a lost art anymore.

Except that would get Iowa in trouble with the NCAA. The reason ASU and Wyoming have nothing on Iowa is because the recruitment of Buchanan and Teemer was done by boosters. Coaches can’t recruit these guys, and talking about it with athletes who are leaving wouldn’t be smart.

Disagree. No rules against telling your wrestlers that donors are recruiting

So there is no loyalty no matter what the price. I say BS
You have a limited time you are able to compete in the sport you have devoted much of your life to. You have the remainder of this life to earn money and then piss it away. Regret sucks and when you are 50 and look back you wish you would have given it your best shot. Loyalty shown by being a back up - please. To what?

I’m not sure how done folks don’t understand that part.

So do you think that nobody on the coaching staff talked to Glazier and co about this?

It's all a moot point because they're the ones running the show, but I don't think the Brands would go about it that way.

I'm guessing not Sealy specifically, but the numbers game will claim multiple elite recruits who can't find a spot in PSU's lineup. Henckel and Facundo seem like the most likely, with at least one more out of Ryder, Barr, or the Mirasolas is probably going to get the squeeze as well. Depending on their recruiting success with guys like Jax, Bassett, or Blaze, there might be some lighter weight guys like Davis or Nagao who might be out of a spot as well. Guys like Duke and Henckel (and Mesenbrink as a transfer) more or less recruited themselves into Penn State to get a chance to train in that room (with the NLWC guys as well as the PSU varsity) and shoot their shot at a chance to make the lineup for them. Guys at this level are always confident that they can conquer the world, but simple math says that it can't possibly work out for all of them, and I'm sure some will leave for a starting spot somewhere.

So why or how does cael keep all them? Money? Better room balance mentally? Why can't Iowa pay their backups to stay?
