What did Messenbrink get fes? Simple questions.....
Mesenbrink was an afterthought in the transfer window last year. Nagao and Truax were the two big names that Iowa and PSU were both making a play for. Mesenbrink transferring barely made a ripple with most of the reaction both here and on PSU's board was something along the lines of "interesting but OMG, where's Nagao going?!?". There were 2 or 3 guys who said wait a minute, watch out for this kid, he could be the best of all of the transfers, but they were few and far between. There's an interview with Mesenbrink where he said Cael called him when he entered the portal and he said that's it, that's where I'm going. There was no real recruiting war over him, and I doubt he commanded the big money NIL (he will this year, though). He may have gotten on PSU's radar when he beat Haines for the spot on the world U20 team (where he got silver that year).

...this is just plainly wrong. The difference was everybody knew where Mess was going, he was by far the best prospect moving last year. It was talked about even before he went to Cal Baptist. Most were surprised he went and many thought he would leave...which he did.

But flo just ranked him 15th for no reason.

What? I remember that differently than you. I think everyone knew and thought Mesenbrink was biggest get.

Mesenbrink jumped levels just after HS recruitment, which is why he ended up at Cal Baptist. He continued jumping levels, and since PSU was always his preferred school, he switched to PSU after a coaching change at Cal Baptist. A legit reason to transfer.

There was no coaching change. Lol

Mesenbrink just didn’t like it. It was “different” from what he thought it was going to be from the recruiting process.

He did an interview with COC and they talked about toughest workout he’s ever done and called one of the workouts at CalBap ‘ridiculous’ - he just wasn’t a fan of the training.

I stand corrected. It’s not a good look on MM that he didn’t understand the training regimen before signing. That said, 18 year old mistakes.

that's not the first. it's not even the second.
acuHawk and Mutli are good, no doubt. they just don't post much and when they do they are (understandably) a bit cryptic.

the Teemer and Buchanan offers i mentioned are accurate though. so they're either wrong on that, or doing spin control.

The Askren thread appears to be locked so I figured I would use this thread to go on record that I never posted anything about what they're getting. Just wanted to clear that up.

Put down the crack pipe. Everyone new Mesenbrink was an absolute stud and the reason there was no recruiting war because PSU had already lined him up to go there before he hit the portal.

mesenbrink took silver and gold at u20 world championships after high school. we all knew he was the gem of the transfer portal. no revisionist history will change that. some of the stuff psu fans post of here is just special.

Eh. Kinda. I actually went down the PSU-board transfer portal news-dark hole. It was kinda 50/50 in terms of who thought MM would be successful, if he would have a chance to make the starting lineup. Most didn't believe he could beat Haines and only some believed he could beat Facundo in folk.

But for sure - the most chatter was around Nagao. Even on the day Mesenbrink committed - the discussion centered around, "but what about Nagao?" At the time Mineo was reporting that Iowa offered him the bag and he was likely to take that over PSU.

I thought it was odd to blame it on the athlete and say it made him look bad. And I’m not a PSU fan. Lol
It is on the athlete to understand the coach and his practice style BEFORE signing the LOI. It’s called accepting responsibility. Which he did and then moved on.

This is not factually correct. Mitchell left Cal Baptist after 1 semester. He took classes remotely and entered the portal in January. He was not designated "do not contact" and didn't make a decision until April 21 of last year. There was plenty of time for interested parties to contact/recruit him. The initial speculation was that he'd go to Mizzou to join O'Toole. It was only after he committed to Penn State did he reveal that his heart was in PSU all along.

Doesn't really matter but where was he and who was he training with that second semester?
