There was that Rutgers fella talking about the transfers in from Iowa and PSU awhile back. Did he get that confused with Nebraska? And that it wasn't a transfer in from Iowa but a transfer out to Iowa. Simple mistake in what he heard Im sure.

I would guess Illinois, with Ruth graduating and nobody at 184.
Webster, Ryan Bennet/Medlin, Braeden Scoles, Aaron Stewart, Thompson...would be a solid 5 weight roll-out for Illinois in a year or two.

Likely not Nebraska, er, the far and away second-best program, with Minto rumored to move from 65 to 74, Tyler Eise waiting in the wings at 74, and Allred back again at 84. With Pinto leaving, the future might look like Minto at 74, Eise at 84 and McDanel at 97. But if Minto can hold 65, perhaps Thompson at 74 for a year, and then Eise takes over 74 and Thompson moves to 84

He's what we need. He's athletic and can actually hit wrestling moves. TNT have done a much better job there. Kid has the frame to put on some really good weight. With Angelo, Buchanan, Keuter he's going to get really good really fast.
I've watched him plenty of times, including matches against kids I've coached. Not really sure where you come up with that description.

He's strong as an ox, very tough kid and really technically advanced. As far as athletic like you are calling him, I don't see elite athleticism in his arsenal, I mean I guess you can call any top recruit athletic, but that's not how I would describe him. I don't think that's a terrible thing given the weight he projects at. Honestly, he reminds me of a lot of other guys Iowa has recruited at this weight - whom have been very successful in college, but probably not standing at the top of the podium.

Thompson is not seeing 174 again. He's a 84/97 pounder. Remember this kid was a top 10 and even top 5 p4p recruit in his class. He is talented.

True, for whatever reason his freestyle success hasn't transitioned into folk style success. 174 seemed like a hard cut for him. Probably will do better up in weight.

But seriously. You're wrong on both fronts.

1. There are obviously, degrees to "athleticism" -he's not Gable level, but he dang sure ain't Jacob Warner.

2. Who does he remind you of? He ain't a Warner, Kennedy, Beatty, Keddy, et al. Those guys had to rely on superior handfighting and conditioning to effectively get to leg attacks. Kid can get to legs effectively from the outside/with timing/tap and go. Literally ALL of his attacks come from space or short handfights.

Some receipts, cuz i got time...

Jump to 7:56 - In a match where most of us would say he's wrestling a more athletic opponent - his last shot to win the match came from 3 taps and 2 goes to get to the leg. Nothing unathletic about that.

Jump to 1:21 - Misses on an overtie snap, Rella gets the jump to a leg - but Ludington clears his feet/circling right making Rella miss completely. Then scores on a low level fireman's after a pump fake.

Jump to 1:57 - He's clearly got a bit of athletic power. He hits a firemans from a front head, but absolutely bulls Rella to his back.

Jump to :17 - covers some serious distance on an overtie to a same-hand HI-C. Clears his feet so well/fast there is no sprawl/scramble from Ziola.

Jump to :25 - Against future teammate and possibly more "athletic" Jarrel Miller - shot off the whistle that catches Miller completely off guard, but definitely shows some speed off the whistle start

Jump to 7:03 - tap-level change - tap-go. That's a pretty damn athletic sequence is close quarters. Gets Wright reaching twice and fires to the leg from his level change.

stylistically i think thompson would do well at 197.

i am assuming by illinois-hawk’s response he is headed elsewhere though

Holy receipts, Batman.

I get where @dicemen99 is coming from, but I agree with you that Ludington is pretty athletic.

To me, it's the difference between long speed and short area quickness. I wouldn't say Ludington is overly quick, but he has long speed. He can cover a lot of ground while maintaining significant power. But he's not "twitchy" and that's what a lot of people view as athletic. Reminds me a lot of Buchanan.

Does he want Iowa, or does Iowa want him? Seems like there's a lot of...off the mat drama with him, lol, and he hasn't shown (yet) he's worth the hassle.
Has he had issues recently. I know there were some issues in high school, but I don't remember hearing about much the last two years. DT ran off some others, but not him, which is interesting.

And his mom is bat sh$t — at least according to the OSU boards

He has not been someone who has overly impressed me. Very defensive, I'm not seeing a huge need unless it's a 1 year bridge to Ludington. He was back and forth with Nak in highschool and Nak hasn't come to fruition in college.

Long speed is a great way to describe it!! I like the style alot. I think Buch will be able to help him out alot.
