Official Portal Watch

Makes me wonder if he wants to wrestle right out of the gate. Can he beat Brands for 184 or maybe looking at going for the start at 197 this year. I hope Gabe is our 174 unless PK or Brands is really taking it to him, Arnold is one of those that seems best under the bright lights in big situations. I still think Arnold would have AA'd at both 74 or 84 last year. So anyway, it would be nice to see Arnold and Ferrari in the Nattys this year.
Or maybe Brands wasn’t joking when he said he’s going 174.

Whoever wins the 174 spot is gonna be one heck of a wrestler.

If Zach was beat out this year by undersized freshman Ferrari after getting rid of AJ, Zach have to be on suicide watch😂
Zach was good in the easier part of his schedule last year but had nothing with the big boys at NCAA. He knows how to watch on the bench and be ready if needed.

Yes but like our big competitor, if we have top talent true freshman, then let's go. He is definitely upgrade at 97.

197? He's "settling in at 195" which means that's his walking around weight. 197 pounders walk around north of 210, some 220 or more. He's NOT a 197.

He seems to be better at freestyle. May be one of those guys that makes more noise as senior freestyle wrestler than he did in college.

He went through a pillow soft field at U23s. His R12 at NCAAs wrestling up in a strong weight class was every bit the achievement. A big showing at worlds would change my mind, but I don't expect one. Here's to him killing it, though.

Outsider gut take: Angelo believes he’s ready out-of-the-box and plans to prove it. He’s seen others (Spencer, Haines, Shapiro, etc., hell, even Kasak) have shirtless success and is convinced he will, too. Not self-destructive like his brothers, he’s what every true phenom is, impatient to compete and show his skill on the big stage. If he’s beating either of the expected starters in the room, turn the kid loose. The portal means you almost have to.

I still say he transfers if he redshirts

My hope

165: Cali
174: Gabe
184: Angelo

I respect Nelson but wish he would move on. He's not a title threat and I don't think he's the best influence in the room. That's just my opinion though.

Don’t give me that bullshit you guys post so often about him.

So he’ll go at 184?
He’s thinking national championships, not just hoping to AA his freshman year. Spencer was a freak winning it as true freshman with bad knee. Would have been easy 4 timer with no redshirt if he even had halfway decent knees at the end of his career. He was also a career 125 with freakish strength. Even the great Gable Stevson couldn’t pull off a championship as true freshman upper weight. Star wouldn’t be a 4 timer without a redshirt. Even Cael redshirted as an upper weight.

We just are not at the point in recruiting success that we can have a top 5 pfp be a miss and anther top 5 pfp in a class a few years later quit the sport his senior year of high school. PSU is the only team that could have that happen and have no effect on their success.
Over 1/2 of the top 10 pfp recruits fail.

I still say he transfers if he doesn't redshirt.

My hope

174: Gabe
184: Angelo

What are you talking about transferring if he doesn’t redshirt. You mean he will begrudgingly wrestle as a freshman, but be pissed off about it and transfer??? And what kind of bad influence is Nelson?? Gambling??? Hopefully everyone learned a lesson.

I mean this in the most respectfull way possible. anybody that belives Cobe is an equal option to Teemer needs to evolve. Great kid. But that way of thinking is why Iowa isn't winning individual or team championships.

A kid like him would be the 8th, 9th, or 10th best kid on a championship team.

Who in their right mind thinks cobe = teemer?! If that’s the case then there’s way to much “ we like our guys” mentality going around.

If he likes having someone see him wrestle, and likes the NIL money potential here, he will not take his ball and go home like a baby if the coaches explain they are doing what’s best for him and the team in the long run. The continued difference in attendance numbers was shocking. Even on the road you will have more fans there if you wrestle for us, since we draw much bigger crowds than most teams normally get. I don’t think he will follow his brother’s, because any team they end up with will be far below him.

wait... So Nelson was serious about going 174?
I think he was. Whoever wins the spot at 174 between him and Gabe will man 174 and the other will have to bump up to 184 (hopefully this is decided in the next month or two). Angelo will wrestle his 5 matches and RS at 184 unless he is significantly better than whoever ends up at 184 (I don't think Angelo should auto RS either). PK will be behind 165 and 174. It is what it is. Lots of options for those 3 weights and all of them are going to be really good options. The Hawks need this issue at about 7 of the 10 weights to catch Carl unfortunately.

Ah. ok.

Your post made it seem like he was "going" - as in starting this year because Nelson is at 174. Really hope Nelson is at 184.
I think Nelson would be top 3 at 74 and top 5 at 84, problem is Gabe I see being top 5 at 74 and anywhere from 6th-blood round at 84. If Nelson wants what’s best for him I think he’ll go 74. If he wants to be a team player then it’s 84 all the way.
