*****Official We are Kicking #7 Ohio State's Butt Tonight Game Thread*****

Proof positive Fran is clueless. Put the least capable scorer on the team in when you need to score.
Who shoots 60 pct from line and can't defend or rebound. That missed front end (not close) was a turnover in crunch time. I texted my buddy at half if he plays more than 5 mins in 2nd im gonna flip. Still in shock the guys who saved us 2 fuggin days ago didn't play 2nd half til it was over

This team is good and plenty talented.

Fran needs to bench Connor. It’s not even a question that he is a defensive liability and frankly an obvious offensive liability. Toussaint brings an attitude and quickness to the defensive end that elevates the rest of the team. He can even cover for jbo’s defensive liability on the perimeter. Need jbo on the floor to spread the d with his 3-pt ability. The loss of Frederick has exposed connor’s many weaknesses. Make the change Fran. Bench Connor. He Could provide some minutes off the bench maybe. But there is simply too much guard talent not seeing the floor to keep giving him so many minutes.

I hope a reporter asks him why subs didn’t play much.

That's the only question worth asking. If Fran gets pissed because of it, **** him. I am impressed with the talent Fran put together but his personnel choices are as bad as any as I've ever seen on a team this talented. He's playing two and sometimes three guys who should mostly be riding pine. Meanwhile, guys who'd be getting serious minutes at nearly every other B10 team are sitting on the damn bench for an entire half. I have no idea what the hell he's thinking. At all.

I'm a little more sanguine about this in that I've accepted how bad they are on D. It seemed pretty unlikely they'd get any better on D and they haven't.

They're still fun to watch. They'll still win games. They may somehow squeak into 3rd in the league. They have a chance, not a great one but a chance, to make the sweet 16. This is what I'm going to keep watching for.

Besides making an entry pass, what does CMAC bring ? I don’t consider that quality
He is not even doing much of that anymore either. He needs to be like the 8/9th guy off the bench. FM has lost his effing mind and lost this game by leaving players on the floor who can't guard a stop sign. I finally have lost all confidence in FM as head coach. As far as I am concerned he needs to go. The sooner the better.

SPOT ON.

So what do you think the attitudes are with our bench players.
Ulis, Perkins, and Tousaint watching the coaches sons play while they ride the pine.
Lmao.

JT and Ulis know they have the court once JBo leaves. Perkins maybe in as 6th next year.

My perspective it is not fun to watch when they pretty much only give a s*** about one end of the court. But, each to his own.

This coach is a pathetic shit show at in game coaching.
Izzo would be a serious NC contender with this lineup. Fran, we are getting bounced first or second round.

An end in the Sweet 16 would be a disappointment, not for Iowa historically, but for this team.

Agree 100% but never going to happen. Fran continues to prove it's more about his ego than winning games. There is no excuse for his bs tonight.

Except CJ didn’t play tonight or much vs MSU.

Well minus CJ, he actually can play some D when he’s healthy.. thanks for pointing that out.. when Fran tossed him out there injured for only God knows why he was definitely not playing good D or O.. understandably.. But CMac and JBo good golly.. I think they are trying but as the game wears one their below average D turns to game losing D and teams are picking on it...

prepare for disappointment because Iowa can’t win more than 2 in a row against tourney teams. Mostly because the odds of the opponent being more athletic are roughly 80% and unless the Hawks shoot tremendously well they don’t win.

With his eye for talent and offensive wisdom we are keeping him but Barta needs to give him a Beilein ultimatum. Hire a defensive guru and give him free reign or it's time to look at other options. This won't happen because Barta doesn't care about taking next step but that's all it would take. Same if Kirk turned over offense to a proven assistant. Also won't happen

continuing to prove he’d rather loose with his starters than win with the whole team.. he got to play the starters way more than he did vs MSU and look at the out come.. decided to leave the starters in there vs Illinois and Indiana too, same outcome as tonight. Ran out of gas & couldn’t defend at the end.. I’m confused because Fran has been known to give 11 guys good minutes in previous years.. what’s different about these guys.. He knows he’s got some good players on the bench, why not use them??

Good post and question. I think it's a complete lack of feel for the game. Hard to fathom given Fran's coaching experience, but it's like the guy who fishes with one lure despite having a full tackle box because one time he caught a big fish on it.

So where do we find Fran's postgame presser? Really interested to hear what he was thinking tonight.

I would say Ohio State's defense wasn't very good either. They were better in critical situations and were physical with Garza. Just like the guards, Garza does not finish very well when guys can be just as physical as him. Garza even had a tough time scoring when the freshmen for Ohio State was in. That cannot happen for Iowa to be successful. Fran again played guys too long, which doesn't help on the defensive end for the starters. To me, guys log to many minutes which leads to the team's struggles in February and March. Playing a very physical game two days ago didn't help either.

I suppose it's encouraging in a sadistically tragic sense that teams have to play ultra physical defense against Iowa just to keep us from scoring 80+ pts.

The tragic part being that we knew once Big Ten play started, officials would allow it to happen to allow teams to compete with Iowa.

Despite the moans and groans from officials who post on social media and fans, who moan and groan about other fans who complain about the officials, despite half the time not even knowing what the f*** it is we're complaining about.................officials absolutely do call the game differently for Iowa when they're on offense compared to when Iowa is on defense.

I don't necessarily know why it is. Whether they grow tired of our finesse offense and it's efforts to draw fouls, or Garza being such an overwhelming physical presence that they have to call him differently so as to not foul out every guy trying to hang with him,

(P.S. btw good or bad, I loved the "cylinder foul" that sent Connor to the FT line late, and yet we can have 3 guys doing the exact same thing to Garza on every possession.........that is f***ing consistency.)

Or if the officials actually are influenced in some way by overbearing coaches like Izzo etc, or truly feel like they don't want to bog the game down by calling too many fouls in spite of the paradoxical FACT that NOT enforcing the rules of the game also has a DIRECT f***ing impact on the game............
