It feels like we rarely get an evenly called game against Izzo even in Iowa City. I kept waiting for them to really have a 5 minute stretch that would favor MSU & swing the game/momentum but they didn't. Nice they held strong in the first few minutes of the 2nd half also.

Not sure what his name is but the younger buff Hispanic looking ref seems decent to me. We have him a lot it seems.

As always is the case with college refs though they weren't very good. They made a few fantom calls against the Spartans, they called a travel on Uthoff that didn't occur, they botched an out of bounds call under the basket against the Spartans, they also called a bs charge call against the Spartans when Gesell tried to get position on a transition pass. Having said that they were sadly probably better than normal.

They called a good game. They didn't go to the oh you're Izzo we'll help you out in the 2nd half. Which happens way to much with him.

I was shocked. I felt like if anything, the Hawks got more calls than MSU. Seemed like every single 50/50 out of bounds call went our way. That said, they must have been good calls, because even the ones in front of Izzo got no major whining from him...which also shocked me.

Agree

No........lol, no.

Well officiated. Wish we could draw that crew every game.
No, it was not well officiated. What it was though was a badly called game that went both ways. MSU was doing a lot of grabbing and illegal screens. But like holding in football, this happens a lot and refs pick and choose some of these calls. This type of game was in Uthoff head though as he was very passive in second half especially whe driving to the basket

Larry Scirroto. He had those 2 head scratchers in the first half, but he's a good official. The bald guy from Iowa City who did the game is the best in the country.

I thought they were poor. So many times I yelled at the screen. While this is one of the few times vs MSU or Wisc that some of the calls went Iowa's way , there were still a ton of noncalls and letting them maul us.

The difference last night was iowa made shots. If not, this board would be BAU for multi page threads over officiating bias for MSU.

So, I saw nothing much different than usual.

Compared to MSU games of the past, this officiating crew called a fair game. Uthoff needs to learn to play with someone grabbing and bumping him, because that is what he going to face against all of the better teams.

Were there some calls we didnt like. Yes, but to often we see something like 14 calls against Iowa and 3 against MSU when Izzo starts crying in the 2nd half.

Officiating wasn't perfect, but it never has been and never will be. I'll take that performance any time. Well done.

I didn't catch the first half, but I thought the second half officiating was still poor.
The officials didn't have a clue how to call over the back on Michigan State. Costello was a bull running through people. Woody's 4th foul wasn't bad except two play earlier a Michigan State player goes through the Iowa player on the perimeter for steal with no foul called with a LOT more contact.
That said, the travel on Uthoff was probably correct and the out of bounds off Michigan State under the basket was very close based on replay. The charge Mike got on the pass was in Iowa's favor but a couple plays before that probably should have been a charge.
Uthoffs offensive foul should have been a foul on Sparty for reaching in before that.

Michigan State consistently got away with physical hand checks in the second half that are not supposed to be allowed. The number of fouls called was pretty even when you take out the 5 intentional fouls which means the refs screwed up.

I can't believe people think that wasn't an evenly called game against MSU. We never get an evenly called game against those guys. Officials were top notch last night. That big white guy ref is fantastic. Didn't know he was from Iowa City.

Damn. You should be working as a red so we have nothing to complain about

The only thing I saw that was bad was, I think Costello, constantly dropping his shoulder And banging hard into Woody's chest as he was battling for position away from the ball...he could have picked up 2-3 pretty easily if the refs were paying attention.

Other than that it was a game called evenly both ways and that is all one can ask for.

Great win.

It was probably the best officiated Iowa/MSU game I've seen in at least 10 years. The refs were far from perfect but they didn't let MSU get away with playing a rugby match as they have in past years.

Isn't the hispanic ref the one that called flagrant on Uthoff? I don't know how you could look at that tape and see that flop and call it flagrant.

There was no flagrant call made. They checked the monitor to see if one was warrented. There was a flop but Uthoff did make contact.
