Last year, I wrote this little bit on why Michigan won't dismantle us: https://iowa.forums.rivals.com/threads/michigan-is-not-going-to-dismantle-us.163868/

The difference between Michigan last year and Ohio State this year is #1 coaching and #2 offensive philosophy. Urban Meyer is superior to Jim Harbaugh. Not necessarily superior on the defensive side of the ball. But offensively, it's not even close.

And the reason Iowa can stand up against the Wisconsin's and Michigan's of the world is because like our own offense, these offenses waste plays. Like us, they have this unexplained addiction to wasting plays with 9 guys + a full back in a phone booth running into an 8 or 9 man fronts. Iowa's defense feasts on the stubborn. Like us, the Michigan's and Wisconsin's don't make you account for the quarterback's legs. Like us, the Michigan's and Wisconsin's do very little, it any, read option out of the gun.

Ohio State's offense doesn't waste plays. Their offensive philosophy maximizes their players' chances for execution. OSU's scheme offensively, combined with their talent on defense, combined with our lack of talent on offense is a recipe for disaster this weekend.

If we turn the ball over we lose big if we don't we probably lose a close game so tell me what makes Ohio state that much better than Penn State they didn't blow us out

You are correct. I wouldn’t be surprised if we “upset” Wisconsin, I’d be shocked if we beat the Bucknuts.

The good thing about Saturday's game if it's going to be in the 50s the players hands will be warm so they should catch balls that hit their hands instead of dropping them

OSU has a legit passing game this year which is unusual for them. Think Kevin Wilson at IU. With that and a running game, nobody is going to shut them down. And Iowa doesn't have the O or D to beat them. I just can't see a close game.

Personally I don’t see this as being close, but would not be surprised if it is.

Can Iowa win? Unlikely, but that is part of the fun in having season tickets. You never know when you are going to have one of those magic moments.

They sure got shut down by Oklahoma. Yes, I know we aren't Oklahoma, but neither is ISU so......We obviously have to hope the game goes like the PSU game, where we gave up yards between the 20's and when the field shrunk so did their athletic advantage in a smaller space. Stanley has progressed since the PSU game, and if he can play well, we might get some holes for Wadley.

Barrett was the leading rusher on Ohio State against
Penn St. A dual threat QB gives the Hawks fits. We
need to contain Barrett's passing and running. Josey
Jewell needs to keep an eye on Barrett and stop him.

This would be a good game to sit Jewell, Wadley and Jackson. No chance at victory either way and they might get hurt out there.

Have to agree with the OP's analysis. And I would say history does not support the Hawks competing with the Buckeyes. If the Hawks prevail it would be one of the few in my lifetime and I am not a youngster.

Just do not think we can hang with OSU. Barrett might have a career day given the lack of pressure to-date. Offensively, well we are not a juggernaut............. IMO it will be a long day for Iowa fans, but not unexpected.

Biggest difference by far is level of athlete. Harbaugh hasn't come close to stocking his roster with the volume of the same level of elite athletes as Meyer. He got a couple in Peppers and Gary from New Jersey (by hiring their high school coaches in typical Harbaugh fashion), but nowhere close to the volume of Meyer. He brings ridiculous numbers of these elite recruits in every class, last year they had 11 of the top 70 players, this year they already have 8 of the top 70 and led for several more, while Michigan has 4 & 0 respectively of the top 70 the last two years. Even Ohio State had never recruited at the heights Meyer is now. Look at last year for example, he brought in 3 of the top 7 players from TEXAS, one of those will start as a true frosh at RB and is absolutely ridiculous as an athlete, he looks like a young Thurman Thomas for God's sake. They have guy's like him all over the roster now, Michigan isn't even close to that.

That being said, you always know Iowa will be physical and technically sound, so if they can win the turnover and special teams battle anything can happen at Kinnick Stadium, there is no doubt about it.

Our history against osu just doesn't bode well for us. Add in the dual threat qb, and I really don't like our chances. This one will get away from us about midway through the third quarter.

You guys are such pessimist...

First of all our defense will not give up points to OSU on big plays they will earn every point they get.

Second I believe our offense will rise to the occasion keep the ball away from Ohio St and limit opportunities.
on offense.

Kinnick Stadium will be ready and if they are loud and get out and support these guys the game will be much closer than people think.

I am a pessimist and it is based upon a lifetime of getting out and getting loud without a positive result. If the the Hawks win I will be elated!

Ohio State opens as 16 point favorites, so Vegas must assume JT is going to continue where he left off.

I wish I had time to watch the key Iowa games this year. Highlights don't do it justice. No idea how Sparty kept Wadley to 30 yards rushing. That has to be a combination of bad execution and play calling on Iowa's side, right?

I figured OSU is only a 16 point favorite because Vegas assumed the third stringers would play. Can see this one getting out of hand early.

I'm sure there's a phone book you can go read somewhere if you really want to bore yourself to tears. In a nutshell, Iowa suffered a couple of injuries on the offensive line knocking out two senior linemen. Their replacements are a true freshmen and a redshirt freshmen and...well, they just aren't very good right now. The game is too fast for them and they don't have the strength of an upper classmen so they get beat routinely. As a result, Iowa can't run at all against the 9 man fronts they've been seeing and between Stanley consistently overthrowing on the deep balls and receivers dropping passes underneath there hasn't been a whole lot of reasons for teams to be worried about Iowa's passing game.

Iowa is a young team and they play very much like a young team. They may get hyped for Ohio State coming into town and play well, they did against Penn State, but I just can't see that overcoming the issues Iowa has on the offensive line.

Huge difference in the caliber of qb when compared to the win over scUM last year.
Harbaugh's best qb to date was a guy that left Iowa because he lost his spot. The guys they've had taking snaps since are nothing special. The inability of speight played a huge part in Iowa's success.
Barrett is on another plane in comparison.

Very humble.
Not as worried about humility as I am about honesty. I'd much rather Iowa have a respectable team, so OSU was playing a competitive program this week like Iowa State. Hopefully things get turned around, so this game isn't such a bore any longer.

Weird, we play Ohio State and a bunch of fan boys I have never seen before have an opinion about the game. YOU BETTER HOPE LIKE HELL THE GAME IS NOT STILL GOING ON WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN IN KINNICK.

True Iowa State had no problem with Oklahoma. OSU well??
