The sting is not yet gone and you have to start thinking of the future.

Who stays and who doesn't?
Can we replace the Swiss Army Knife that is Baer?
What will Fredrick bring to the mix?
Is is it asking too much to think Nunge will be a game changer?
Joe T sounds tantalizing, but a freshman PG has a lot to learn.
Having Pemsl return sounds good, but he has not been a difference maker (perhaps playing hurt) in the past.
Emerging stars in Luka and Joe.
One more go round for JBo.
I think I will rest easy in the off season.

I think Maishe could be a Baer type but he’d have to make a big effort to realize that’s his role. He has the ability to do the little things but just doesn’t.

I don't see that at all. Baer is longer and can hit shots.

PMac will be the Baer replacement. A three and stretch 4.

If Cook returns we'll have crazy frontcourt depth with Nunge and Pemsl back.

I hope this team has figured out just what it takes to compete with the upper half of the B1G and work hard over the summer to make themselves better. The nucleus is there for a great 2019-20 season but we need to muscle up and learn how to play consistent tough defense. We could have a special season if everybody commits to playing up to their potential.

Agreed but Baer’s real value was in his intangibles. I think Pemsl replaces him next year in terms of value to the team

If everyone comes back Fran will have his work cut out to give everyone minutes. Just a guess but might be some roster attrition??? If Iowa can turn the effort on like the second half and always play that way win or lose I would be happy.

Seems like the big10 is going to be a beast again. Are any teams graduating a lot of seniors? I honestly can’t remember.

The DNA evidence suggest PMAC won't shoot the 3-ball at high clip as a Freshman. Even his comparables Uthoff and Baer redshirted--PMAC is skinnier. PMAC is a tweener that going to have difficult time finding a position. He can only be a wing in a zone defense, a huge weakspot at wing in man-to-man.

I'd like Garza to improve his defense and rebounding. He's sensational offensive player.

None taken.

I think Vanderloo is a more appropriate choice than Daily.

You think Vanderloo can fill in Baer’s best role in playing the point on the zone defense? Block a shot? A steal? Plenty of players that can fill the roll of knocking 3’s down at a 35% clip. His roll of point on the zone press was his most valuable roll. 2nd best at that was Dailey this year followed by Weskamp but Baer was by far the best at it.

In the post-game Fran said Nunge has been dominating in practice (6'11", 250) and that Fredrick is a penetrating guard.

It might all be Fran speak.

I think if they could play a role on this team they would be playing. Those guys are going to be role players at best next year. This team isn’t likely to magically get better next year unless Toussaint ends up being the savior as a guy who can break down others off the dribble and creating shots. If that happens, to be fair, that will allow us to go really far in the Big Ten and NCAA’s.

I’d like to see Fran get really aggressive in the offseason to recruit guards in the 2020 class, and if there is some fallout from the CBK scandals like the FBI deal, recruit a transfer or two.

Not necessarily. He was the only one who played the point on the zone press anywhere near what Baer did. He played it better the Joe W did who was the only other player capable of that position.
This is more what I was thinking. Better defender for sure. Not as good of a shooter and not quite the feel for the little things but like I said if he recognized that as his role he could do it

Everyone wants to bag on Dailey because he struggled shooting the ball in his diminished minutes this year. If you look at his sophomore year where he played more minutes he made 26-69 3 pointers for 38% topping Baer’s 36% this year. It’s not THAT much of a stretch to think he could give some of the things Baer does off the bench. I’m a bit doubtful but it’s not crazy to think it.

He needs to spend the next year being doyles bitch and doing whatever he tells him!

"some"....maybe.
I don't see him replacing all we got from baer though, doesn't even seem possible to me. maybe baer will stick around and coach some of them.

The team didn't get "magically" better this year, but they did add a couple of pieces and won, what, 9 more games? Next year will be Jack's 3rd year on the team and I am optimistic he will be more than a "role player". And, I also think we are going to like CJ in a couple of years. Obviously everyone that returns has room for improvement - maybe the can each up their game a little. If Patrick M can come even close to what Joe W did this year the team should be darned good.

Best case scenario for next year, everybody comes back and Joe T proves to be a sold contributor his first year:

Connor, Joe T
Bohannon, Moss, Fredrick
Weezy, Pat Mac, Dailey
Cook, Nunge, Pemsl
Garza, Kriener, Nunge

Moss, Nunge, Kriener first off the bench.

Worst case scenario, we lose Cook, Moss, Dailey, and Pemsl.

Conner, Joe T.
Bohannon, Fredrick
Weezy, Pat Mac
Nunge,
Garza, Kriener

I disagree, I think Patrick will eventually be a longer version of Baer, It will be a process, but he will contribute next year.

I have to make the kids lunches, then nighty night, but would be interesting to forecast minutes next year.

At a high level, significant changes...

Replacement for Baer as spark off bench: No one fills his shoes, but Pemsl brings lots of energy, toughness and high IQ, probably less minutes. Also Connor?
Need Some Minutes for PG who can penetrate: Toussant must get 15+ minutes IMO
Replace Cook? Not exactly, but Nunge should play a lot of minutes at the 4, If he flops, we are screwed
Shooting Guard: Rinse and Repeat with Moss is not the answer, hoping Frederick can challenge for some minutes, JBo also needs to play more 2G

Baer is going to be hard to replace and not just because of his all around solid game skills. He's incredibly smart, has a high basketball IQ, never cared if he started or came off the bench and was a team first guy in every sense. A really rare combination. You could see the immense amount of love and respect his teammates had for him in those post game interviews. Guys like that leave a real void in the locker room.

That said, they definitely have a chance to be an even better team next year.

Keep the short bench. Let Pemsl take Baer's minutes, Toussaint take McCaffery's minutes, and McCaffery take Dailey's minutes.

I think Patrick will be better than most seem to think, regardless of his weight
Can Patrick stroke it from 3? With his height and lanky-ness, I like him to replace what Baer provided. I think he's hands down the best candidate, assuming he can shoot well.
