On to next year

Baer is going to be hard to replace and not just because of his all around solid game skills. He's incredibly smart, has a high basketball IQ, never cared if he started or came off the bench and was a team first guy in every sense. A really rare combination. You could see the immense amount of love and respect his teammates had for him in those post game interviews. Guys like that leave a real void in the locker room.

That said, they definitely have a chance to be an even better team next year.
IMO Baer will become a great coach one day should he desire that profession. If he doesn't, he will excel in whatever he chooses to do.

I have to make the kids lunches, then nighty night, but would be interesting to forecast minutes next year.

At a high level, significant changes...

Replacement for Baer as spark off bench: No one fills his shoes, but Pemsl brings lots of energy, toughness and high IQ, probably less minutes. Also Connor?
Need Some Minutes for PG who can penetrate: Toussant must get 15+ minutes IMO
Replace Cook? Not exactly, but Nunge should play a lot of minutes at the 4, If he flops, we are screwed
Shooting Guard: Rinse and Repeat with Moss is not the answer, hoping Frederick can challenge for some minutes, JBo also needs to play more 2G
I'd bet one thing, Nunge will be a much better mid-range shooter then Cook. Like to see him at the high post with Garza or Kreiner on the block.

I like the idea of a Bohannon, Moss, Joe W, Garza and Nunge lineup.

Kriener could fit here too, along with Patrick.

All guys who can shoot the 3 and a rim protector in Nunge.

We are going to score the goddamn rock next season.

I think Patrick is our 6th man next year. He is a higher rated recruit than Joe and can let us play small when we want to.

Baer was asked if he ever wanted to coach. He said no, he'd rather get into sportscasting. Can't remember which Hawk reporter asked the question, but it's on video somewhere.

Best case scenario for Iowa is if it becomes Wieskamp's team next year. He needs to be the go to guy even if he's only a sophomore. Adam Haluska was the best player on Iowa for two years before he finally embraced being the go to guy. I'm hoping it doesn't take Wieskamp that long.

My thought on a few things

Keep concentrating on Defense, Defense, Defense, Strength/Conditioning and Fundamentals. Was much improvement from prior year but I don't think they have come close to reaching their potential.

Cook will go pro - thought he was real close to going last year.

Dailey most like to transfer - hasn't redshirted, could transfer and have 2 to play. I think Toussiant, Fredrich and PMac shifts the rotation where he won't find many minutes. Wieskamp will likely get more minutes next year as well.

Don't think Moss will leave, would have to be grad transfer and he will get minutes since he is our most athletic backcourt defender, can be a streaky shooter and has a drive game, needs to tighten his handle and improve consistency though.

I think Wieskamp is just scratching the surface. Will add more driving to rim as he gets stronger

PMac will replace Baer. He is a flex player and should adapt to different roles as needed more so than Baer. PMac shoots as good, should be as good of rebounder, better ballhandler/passer, more of a point forward than Baer. Has high BB IQ, Question is the hustle plays Baer contributed. I imagine PMac battles though.

Nunge is a Stretch 4, hopefully the RS year prepared him to score inside as well as defend and rebound. Lost some confidence as freshman year went on. Think the level of play he went up against surprised him a bit

Pemsl - hope his injury issues are behind him. His attitude and intensity was the difference in the ISU game.

Expect CMac shooting to be much improve. Tough kid

JBo - we know what he does - hopefully he jumps a level and has a great senior year.

Kriener - Big Strong Solid, can provide scoring and rebounding at big ten level

Toussiant, Fredrich - think they both have skills that could see the floor next year. Seems like they are both tough nosed players

I think something has to change with our "guards"
Moss is really a 3 IMO - should be a spot up shooter off the bench
Problem is we have very limited options at SG - JW is also really more of a wing/3

Hello JC or Grad Transfers?

Wieskamp should be and I believe will be the best player on the team next year. He has all of the skills and the right mentality to be the go to guy.
