It's amazing that I come on a website for fans that claim PSU guys think wrestling started in 2011, and they think that Ono wrestling for PSU is something new and unprecedented in this sport.

Anybody ever hear of Uetake??? He's one of the only guys they mention in the same breath as Cael and Gable. That happened over 60 years ago. Won Olympic and NCAA gold in the same year and then won 2 more NCAAs (undefeated in his NCAA career) before winning his second gold for Japan in 68.

PSU has had multiple decorated international Japanese wrestlers compete and coach for them including NCAA champ Sanshiro Abe.

Russians have AA'd, Cubans as well.

Ono is 21 and will probably be finished school here in 2 to 3 years. C'mon guys, this is not some super sneaky, groundbreaking thing that Cael has pulled off. Although the Flo hype machine might have you believe otherwise.

He was able to do this because of the RTC he has built in the past 15 years. Just sayin'.

Agree it's not without precedent, but it is still quite rare/unusual. My only real gripe with this is spending USA wrestling's limited resources in training and developing guys who will compete against American wrestlers internationally. Same goes for US grads who go on to compete for other countries--I don't think they should be allowed to train at US RTCs either.

He shouldn't have four years at PSU, you only get one year out of high school before your clock starts. Just like Kennedy Blades only gets three years at Iowa (and she is only 21 like Ono) because she was with Sunkist but not in college. So I think if he turns 22 next year he'd have two years max of eligibility.

I saw Uetake wrestle at NCAA's in Ames many, many years ago. Impressive. Let's say Teemer quick or better.

It makes no sense to me to bring in foreign wrestlers to American colleges to train them to beat our American wrestlers at Worlds and the Olympics. I guess that is just me. Ono isn't going to get better for the Olympics by wrestling college folkstyle wrestlers, so this really hurts the American freestyle wrestlers if you ask me. If you donate to the NLWC are you hoping your money is spent to train Ono to beat whoever he faces from the United States in future freestyle events while representing Japan?

Where have you been for the last 40 years. American colleges are full of foreign athletes training and competing in the states. Such an small minded view but that seems to the theme here. I am hoping you keep the Brands boys for decades to come. They sure are entertaining.
