Actually he didn't even get a noise violation, he did however still get suspended for a game after he had all of his charges dropped.
Nice try at deflection, Hoiburg is no angel.. The pigeons are coming home to roost as they say. Fran took a chance on one guy, made it specific what had to be done, that guy crossed Fran's line and was gone before school started. Hoiburg has a history of taking castoffs, just win baby.
I was speaking to a current player who got arrested twice in one summer and never had to miss a game. Regardless, it shouldn't be a pissing match between two in state schools and assumptions of how how BDJ was treated in Ames shouldn't be made

I've been to Ames and there is no justification the university can provide for the current trend of local superiority over Iowa (beyond being a middling suburb of Des Moines). It's Iowa's rural suburb (to me, there's something wrong with that, and we disagree). If your kids benefited from the Ames environment, god bless all of you. It's a boring town with a great school and that's it. And that town is inferior to IC. We'll see with the schools

Upon further review, I'm beginning to think it's a different K.C. Jones. The "real" K.C. Jones has a stepson around the age of BDJ, so it's entirely possible. However, I saw a post-death article in the paper that quoted him, and it made to reference to him being the former celebrity; I think it probably would have mentioned it if that were the case.
Of course, it's entirely possible that all the people involved in writing and editing the story have never heard of K.C. Jones. Not everybody is older than dirt.
Ridiculous that people are making a kid who got in trouble for having a noise complaint against him in college (who didn't have a few of these in college?) and for smoking weed in college (who didn't/) some horrible person who was the bane of society. If he played at Iowa people wouldn't saying these things. Just because he played at ISU people take shots. The kid died in a tragic misunderstanding. It's just sad.
Well, I've heard of K.C. Jones, and have vague memories of when he coached the Celtics prior to Matt Rodgers's dad and Chris Ford. I'm in my 30s, so I don't think that qualifies me as being older than dirt, does it?
That is not all of it. From reports he had numerous noise complaints, posted a note on the neighbors door that said "f you" or something to that affect, and broke a teammates nose in the locker room at usc. Not things everyone did at college.
That is because your head coach was all buddy buddy with the LAMES cops and they called him to take care of the problem instead of the cops actually getting involved....sorry but your a joke if you think other wise...wait your a joke anyway never mind.

From the team, what else. He didn't participate in any team activities for the summer. What that is, I don't know, but to say he wasn't suspended is wrong. Did he miss any games, no, should he have, sure and if I went back and looked at threads for it i know some Iowa fans would agree. But most athletes who get into minor trouble in the offseason (4-6 months before season) aren't suspended for any games. Jok didn't have any strikes previously either like Jones.
And don't compare an OWI on a moped to assaulting a teammate and confrontation with resident advisor at USC, who knows what happened at UNLV where a teammate threatened to shoot him after Jones was heard yelling at the team after a game (what else was going on) then ISU multiple noise complaints and drug house, then breaking into the wrong apartment in pros. Seems to me trouble followed him wherever he went.
Most athletes that get in trouble in the offseason at Iowa aren't suspended for games but Fran's relaxed punishment method is an outlier. Nader and Thomas both got charged with OWI's in the offseason and were suspended for three games which is pretty common for most programs. I've never heard of a basketball player getting sentenced to four days in jail and not having to miss a single game. I'm guessing Jok is the only case of that happening
According to the law what Jok did was worse than anything Jones ever did so you're right I probably shouldn't compare them

Minus Jok Fran hasn't really had players get in trouble with the law. McCabe's incident was after he was done playing. As for BDJ he was kicked off or suspended at ALL 3 schools he played at. That's not normal.
Here's a tip if you don't like hearing Iowa fans say bad things about BDJ or defend their program maybe you shouldn't hang around an Iowa board so much since you post hear more than most Iowa fans.
I actually like Iowa basketball and follow recruiting. I just think it's odd Hawkeye fans are saying Fred wasn't strict enough with his players and he should have "taught BDJ a lesson" considering what Fran did with Jok's situation. To me it would be like an ISU fan takings shots at another school for bringing in transfers
Nader also had a previous drinking suspension at Northern Illinois. Nader and Thomas were the 4th and 5th players arrested in a year so they were probably punished more to make a point by the student-athlete conduct policy not necessarily Fred. And they were suspended for 2 games as one was a scrimmage.
It's more of some fans wonder why some transfers are brought in then laugh when they get into trouble. Schools handle things differently. Just ask MSU where they had a football player in jail then played vs Iowa that weekend.
2 games and an exhibition. Any basketball player that gets an OWI misses 2 or 3 games at Iowa State which is 2 or 3 more than what Fran does
So call Fran up and complain about his one player that got an OWI and only being suspended from team activities for awhile instead of 2 games. Better yet call the university since it's the student-athlete code of conduct punishments you must have an issue with.
I'm not complaining, I just find it odd that Iowa fans would call out any coach for not "teaching kids a lesson" when Fran is probably the most lenient coach in the country in terms of punishment
Whoa. What? You are basing this entirely off of the Peter Jok moped OWI incident? Who else has been in trouble that Fran has had to demonstrate such leniency towards? The only one I know of is Hubbard and he got booted right away.
One incident is not exactly a great sample size. If Jok had done something similar to Pierre Pierce, I could see your point.

It's amazing to me that you Hawkeye fans do more research on Iowa State players than you know about your own players. I don't condone drinking of any kind as I feel you get what you deserve when/if under the influence. After reading a similar post as yours recently about the number of ISU BB players that were charged in that short peroid of time and found actually during that time Iowa athletes had as many or more arrests in that same time range. I didn't stoop to your level and name all the names and actually just deleted the names and dates a few days ago. I didn't remember there were that many for either team.
As far as being off season arrests that you don't seem to think are any big deal. Those players need to face the same consequences as during the season or else players could commit all kinds of offences as soon as the season is over if they knew there would be no consequences. Unlike some of you seem to think ISU players have consequences for being late to class or practice alike. I think it was Ejim who had started every game of his career but was late to practice one time and did not get to start. If they are bench players they don't play in the first half. Unlike what many of you like to state ISU does or does not do does not make it so. As far as you thinking to many ISKU fans frequent your board. Well if it is a true Iowa board then why are a pretty big percentage of your threads devoted to ISU?
As far as the difference between the fair cities of Iowa City and Ames. I am at Iowa City probably 15 times to 1 in Ames and Ames is a far superior town as is noted in national polls where it is one of the better cities in America in many categories. You probably like Iowa City better because they probably have more bars, something of which is a sad comparison in my estimation.

I think the bottom line here is that frans players graduate and turn into good citizens and people. McCabe is the only one who had anything happen post iowa basketball career, and that was dropping some drunk who talking shit. Yes, that's unacceptable. Just from what I can recall, Dustin hogue and kourtlin jackson were arrested post isu for owi and assault also for jackson. Jones believed kicking in doors at 3 a.m. was called for and got himself killed. Also there was royce whites clown show after Fred vouched for him to nba teams. Jones had cops at his apt 9 times. There was a meeting with the neighbor, fred, and the cops. Fred obviously wasn't getting thru to him.
Jok made two mistakes both of which were committed on a moped. Yes the first involved an OWI which is a definite and punishable mistake but also based on the vehicle of choice was one step away from an OWI on a riding lawn mower. Please provide us with the nation wide stats on deaths to others caused by moped OWI. Jok put himself in harms way operating the handlebars of a moped over the legal limit. Had it been a car or truck I would feel differently about the severity of the punishment reaching from the off season into the regular season. The second violation was being pulled over for an improper flag which revealed the suspended license violation.
I could be wrong on this but I think Jok was suspended from all basketball activities for a decent period of time, maybe 4-6 weeks? I think this included the use of the practice facility, etc.. The offseason work as you know is pretty important to players also and we all know there is no off-season for these guys. The loss of privileges is a real punishment too for players serious about their games which like many Jok is.
The suspension for a couple of games to start the year can be good too but for basketball it usually means missing games against opponents the likes of Idaho State Technical Institute and Maryland Baltimore County Next To Another County. Yes these are the teams most teams beat by 50 and the games are decided in the first 2-3 minutes of action. Hardly an oppressive suspension when guys like Jok play about 10-15 minutes in these contests and it's a defacto light scrimmage. Please list the opponents the ISU guys missed with the 3 game suspensions.
