OT - How many of you guys (gals) have real jobs?

Back when I was a whipper snapper fresh out of college, we had something called the Grateful Dead tour that helped ease the transition into the real world. Those were the daze....

I moved to the Bay Area after graduation and went to work for a German wine company. In time, I was able to pretty much set my own schedule and catch as many shows in NoCal as I wanted.

Good luck on your upcoming reality check!

Nice! I live in the Bay Area currently. No Grateful Dead shows but the cost of rent is the equivalent of a first born child.

Semi retired...I think....but Managed sales organizations in the financial services arena for 40 years with off time spent coaching 6-9 grade girls AAU basketball...two daughters in my family......and boys little league. Nothing more rewarding than watching young people learn what it means to compete and win in the proper manner.

First WWDM is not completely lying, I understand he does live in his parents basement (house) on a REGULAR basis!

As for me, I have failed miserably at attaining my life goal of pro beach volleyball and surfing! Not real good surf in Iowa. I took my parents advice to "do something you love" and you will never work a day in your life. That also is only partially true. Always wanted to coach/teach and be involved in a health profession. After 15 years of work in athletic training (Div I, III and clinic/sports medicine), I have operated/owned my own sports performance/fitness facility for 12 plus years. Small business owner, long and odd hours. Been lucky enough to work with some AMAZING athletes, coaches and executives through the years. Jealous of the insane corporate salaries and benefits of friends, family and clients (top 1%). I can work as little or as much as I want within reason (need to generate profits). I have spent ALOT of time at practices, events and in sports performance and sports medicine facilities (early mornings)! I am "geared" to be a clinician/provide a service (no cubicle farm for me). Wish someone would have told me early on to sell/invent products, as there is only so much time in the day to provide a service.

I will begin my transition from 32 years in the Air Force in about 4 months. I’ve loved walking the flight line and supporting aircraft, but most of all I’ve enjoyed the relationships. It has been a blessing being associated with so many creative and hard working airmen who won’t stop until the mission is complete. I’m currently a program manager with the F-35 Joint Program Office working logistics and acquisition in Arlington, VA. Not sure what’s next or where we will end up, but I’m excited for the future.

*I’m getting a little misty eyed as I type this. Don’t tell anyone or I might have to turn in my man card.

**Disclaimer - I’m the only male in a household with three daughters so I probably haven’t owned a man card in ages.

Working internationally for as long as I can in as my different countries as I can. Downside is it's hard for me to see any meets/tournaments in person while doing this. Glad that online wrestling viewing is as good as it's ever been and I'm always thankful for the pbp's when I can't watch it myself.

Right about 86. Wrong about 07/08. Guess there was a height requirement and I didn’t make the cut ;)

Cool thread. It’s interesting learning about the occupations of some of our fellow wrestling fanatics.
I assumed that with the PM job for F35 you wore stars. I was a 90 day wonder in 85 but still was awarded the farts and darts. Pretty sure I'm more hands on than this company likes - but I enjoy making sure we put out the best products that I'm involved with. Cheers

Co-own/run a couple daycares (about 80 kids max capacity each) with my 2 sisters and parents. The 2nd just opened this past summer and the 1st opened its doors about 9 years ago. The family business was my mom's idea and although I love my family I was the last one to warm up to the idea... my father is a preacher, my sisters were both unmarried/needy at the time and I had been making out pretty well in sales for most of my adult life. So I wasn't chomping at the bit to invest the required resources needed to spend 60+ hours a week with them while stepping away from my comfort zone. I came around eventually and other than proposing to my wife it has been the best decision I've made in my life. My sisters have both gotten married and we've discovered that we all have strengths that make it work. Sometimes I put in 70 hours a week and other times less than 20 depending on how much coaching or watching wrestling I have to do that week :D

I farm and manage 6 hogs barns. Also sell seed corn as a side gig for a few extra bucks. So my chores, depending on whats new on here, may take longer on certain mornings. Ironically, i graduated from ISU in '13 but have always been a die hard iowa wrestling fan. Friends give me a hard time, but they'll see the light someday. Awesome to read all the different occupations from others on here.

Too busy to check this board at work, so I check it in the evening. I've worked as a designer and illustrator for magazine publishers for the last 22 years. Before that I was a machinist and mechanic, an audio salesman, managed a hobby shop, and worked in a grocery store. Been working since I was 16, but I've always been a student in one way or another.

After 7 years working and competeting in the Ski Industry out in the mountains of CO, I moved back to Iowa 4 yrs. ago to begin a career in Saftey Sales. From avalanches and cliffs to hard hats and harnesses. Talk about a complete 180... It's amazing what can happen when a small "ski resort" in North Central Iowa is your daycare provider from age 3-15. Now, the majority of the 135 days per winter I would spend skiing, are spent following wrestling.

It's been a lot of fun being able to closely follow old friend's coaching carreers recently, and that CHA Roar fills the adrenaline void.

I doubt you guys were waiting to hear from an outsider, but there’s a public service message at the end.

I run an analytics team for a significant personalized digital media company, in Chicago. Most time on here and BWI comes on the commuter train or during “moments of reflection” during the day.

I’m looking for good junior candidates, preferably with 1.5 - 4.0 years experience, likely with Econ, Stats, CompSci, Math degree. Know any young, hungry, capable Hawks that fit the description? They can’t spend half their day online here though :D

IT guy who works st home. We outsource our big projects overseas, so my only responsibility is support of old applications. Boss knows I'm way overpaid to be idle most the time, but we have a tiny IT budget compared to most, so he's happy to have me available whenever something serious comes up.

Plus I am always, and I mean always, available.

I was in 3 branches of the service, last as a Naval officer. Now I treat combat vets with PTSD, prescribe their meds, do therapy and education for about 2000 patients........
. I also have PTSD and have spoken to groups around the country on the condition. One patient of mine calculated I have helped over 60,000 veterans.......so not bad for a homeless orphan and severe abuse survivor from Dubuque ( mother was murdered there, very violent foster home, etc) who at 11, lived behind the stage curtain at Loras College .......

Thinking you must be a couple years older than me. When I was young like yourself I was on Phish tour. Would bust ass all year to go on summer tour and live out of a path finder with a good phriend. (My mom hated it). Decided to grow up a little and start learning the trades. Glad that I did. Usually I am doing flips or remodels. Would love to meet you! Was just out in breck a month ago building benches for my buddy's VW micro bus. For trade he created me a silhouette of Bruce Hornsby playing the keys on a chair made out of reclaimed skis

Congrats and a future welcome to the old retired bastards club.

Damn dude. You are an inspiration. Thanks for your service and thanks for everything you have done after your service. I'd say sorry for your earlier years, but my guess is you are a guy who would say it is what shaped you and you don't play the victim role. Very cool story. Seems like there should be a movie made about it you. Any producers on here?

i work for a well-known 3 letter payroll company that also does benefit administration by developing file interfaces to transfer client data to benefit carriers.
this time of year sucks but 8-9 months it isn't bad.

Former federal prosecutor. Currently an attorney in private practice in NYC. Have had an unhealthy obsession with Gable and Iowa since my high school cross-country coach (in north Florida) told me an average guy from a small town in Iowa was the best-conditioned athlete in the '72 Olympics, and if he could do it, so could I. The last part was a lie, but I was too stupid to know it. Was a mediocre wrestler in high school, then covered wrestling in college (not Iowa) for the sports information department where we had a piss-poor team but one sublime talent who became a two-time NCAA finalist, and then rediscovered collegiate wrestling about 12 years ago through the wonders of the Internet. Still trying to talk the Mrs. into coming with me to Nationals.
