You might be surprised what cannabis or low-thc cannabidiol can do for inflammation and chronic pain management. I’m sure el dub can testify. But it kinda depends on what state you live in or what your risk tolerance is like......The Breadbasket hasn’t quite figured out its medicinal charms here, yet.
Not to change the run of this thread, but you are completely right in regards to the Midwest not realizing the benefits.

Many of us here also spent time in the Military even though we weren't "lifers" like Chief, AFHawk and others.

I won't even go into the intelligence level discussion of "short timers" vs. "lifers" for obvious reasons..............

I was a short timer (4 years in the Army). Much respect to all those who could last that long as I was damn near running out the door.

Sounds like sans could use some powerful indica oil for night time pain relief. Sorry for your discomfort.

Taken some time off after 25 years...have a sugar mama. Still collecting a paycheck but damn if it isn’t a lot less.
Sugar mama! I hadn't thought of it that but I've got one too. She has 4 friends that also have retired husbands, she thinks she is on the leading edge of a new trend.
I'm retired from a brutal tech job, glad to be out and not need the money. She works because it's an important job and she likes it.

Apologies....I’ll rephrase to better capture my intent: Midwestern LEGISLATURES have not figured out the medicinal charms of cannabis. Iowa’s implementation is a cruel joke: few conditions covered and no legal way to procure it or bring it in state.

...............................................,,.....,,,,,,,...

Most folks in Iowa don’t realize that there is a potential source for CBD’s in ditches and fence lines throughout the state.

I was working on an extraction project before moving out west that I got too busy to complete. But it’s there.

And you might be surprised by what can be made with a pound of ditch weed flowers, two gallons of 92% iso alcohol, cheesecloth, coffee filters, a crock pot, a dozen quart mason jars and a freezer...:D

I live in CO. We had medical dope for some years before it was legalized for all. I happened to be meeting the Guv on another matter exactly 30 days after the election and 30 days before he was to sign the bill into law. As the meeting wound down, he started joking around some, so I asked him. " So Guv, you've got to sign the dope bill into law in 30 days, what do you think of that?". He responded, "As you know, I was against it for alot of reasons.....noting several.....". Then he hesitated, and said, " And I ought to know as I smoked it for 7 years".

I have never used it, but did vote for it on the basis that tax revenue would be generated and the awful black market would get a kick in the ass. I'm told it's about 1/3 to 1/2 the cost it used to be before legalizing it. We have had some problems, but not too many. What's left to be determined is any long term negatives.....which won't be known till the...long term

......................................................

As far as long term negatives go, trust me when I say that there are a TON of folks with long term exposure showing few if any signs of negative health consequences. Smoking weed isn’t a new thing. Legality is the only change.

I KNOW!!! I've been working on this for five years, obviously with no luck. I keep telling her that's one of the duties of a trophy wife. Sorry, no pics.

I'm the lead learner of a think tank located in eastern Iowa. We are problem solving the real life situations to create a globally competitive workforce. I don't have access during the day and always enjoy finding out what I missed each night.

LOL Let me know when you want to enhance the ability of the group to think outside of the box. I have a great pair of cosmic box cutters in my tool belt.

Haha...I’m enjoying it but going to have to get back to work after the NCAAs. We are DINKs so we can afford to do it. We like to travel etc...so that takes some $$$. She likes me at home after years of being gone a lot tho.

I started a successful organic coffee roasterie in WDM a number of years back. I worked long hours six days a week but was my own boss. Then I sold the business to move west.

Since moving to Oregon for my wife’s new job I’ve been growing medical cannabis on our property. However, our acreage was zoned for 99 plants, then was changed to 48 before we bought it, and now it’s down to 12.

We’re in the process of selling the house and getting a divorce. I’ve been interviewing for roaster positions as of late. The days of setting my own schedule are coming to an end.
Hey buddy - sorry to hear. This is why this site needs some PM message ability. I'm glad it appears you are on fire and great about life.

My wife went to a financial consultant for a preliminary meeting to plan our retirement. Then we went as a couple about 3 weeks later. The first thing the guy says to me is "so lets see if I got this right, You (looking at me) are going to retire at 71 and you (looking at my wife) are going to retire at 53."

Is there any way I can have some of your wives call my wife? :)

You can also threaten to retire at 53 and tell her that you will be home with her every hour of every day. That was enough to convince my wife to keep working.

This thread seems to have slowed down and gotten a little off track, so I'll put it back on, at least for one post.

I'm a CNC machine operator. Long story how I ended up there, but I won't bore you all with it. Just finished my 40th year with the same company, and unless I win the lottery (or get the 200k I spoke of earlier) I have five and a half more years until I can retire, especially with my youngest in his third year at U of I.

I'm impressed that so many of you have jobs you love, or at least have some freedom in or control over. It's also great that so many of you serve(d) in the armed forces or public service. I knew there were several, but had no idea just how many. I feel like this thread has been very enlightening, and I'm glad to have all this new knowledge.

I hope other people will chime in and educate us some more, and I hope other people have enjoyed it as much as I have.
Ive worked in or around the Maufacturing industry for a long time. I programmed Robots for a few years in the early 2000's, a job I really enjoyed at the time, and one of my best golfing/drinking/raising hell friends was the GM there. Very first day on the job he came and drug me out of the office before noon and out to the golf course! Don't think my new co-workers were all that thrilled about it, but it sure worked for me! Ha! I said "so you think this is a good idea?" He said "don't worry about it, I sign all the checks!" Ok....
Had plenty of days like that over the next few years. Good times and great memories.

Anyway, TNT, I want you to know that I have always been an advocate for kick-ass CNC Operators. They are the lifeblood of any really good Manufacturing Operation. So kudo's to you Sir.

I love my job; however, in my late 50's and I am looking forward to retiring in 4 years in one piece. Hollywood Stuntman for 27 years. Born and raised in a small town in Iowa in the 70's/80's. I think wrestling from 3rd grade through high school helped with my work ethic as I have to keep in shape for my gigs. I always look back at my Iowa farm boy days fondly. Like Gable said, "Once you've wrestled, everything else is easy".

I always wanted to be a stunt double for porn movies. Never quite worked out.

My folks live in CO. It's helped a lot of people there with a wide variety of medical conditions, from chronic pain and inflammation, to anxiety, to cancer side-effects. People who never would have thought of themselves as the weed-smoking type.

I've also stumbled across the fabled Iowa ditchweed, before I even knew it was a thing. I thought I was dreaming, so I took a pinch. :)

Hopefully I get a "real job" soon! Just received my PhD in History from the University of Chicago!!! I'm applying everywhere now while bartending my nights away, all thanks to the United States Navy =)

Nice man! We've probably crossed paths, I work at the University of Chicago, managing the building of the new hospitals... you must be smart.

Where do you barkeep?

Haha...could you imagine? Over the Directors megaphone: “Stuntcock...report for your scene, Stuntcock please report for your scene.”

Unpaid intern: “He’s out back with the fluffer warming up.”

I've been home rehabbing a knee replacement since late October (probably going back to work next week), and I'm on HR most of the day off and on, and many of you seem to be on here all day as well. I'm just wondering if all of you are retired (seems unlikely as several act about 12 years old), self-employed, work odd hours, or are just not doing your job or schoolwork to hang out on here.
I don't want to get anyone fired, but come on, fess up...
40 years same company now owned by Fortune 500. Delegated Source Quality Rep DSQR for Rolls Royce, Honeywell and US Military. 56 hour work weeks 5am-3:30pm Saturday till 11.

I got tired of hitting the thumbs up button. First time ever. Great thread.

Is it a coincidence that so many former wrestlers (and fans of the sport) are driven to lead a meaningful and successful life that positively contributes to our society?

Guess what? My 13 year old is here and he's part of the same fraternity...it continues. As a matter of fact he's writing an essay on the as to why he should be eligible on behalf of his school and community to lay a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery in March. I, and all of you as Americans, and wrestlers! should be as proud as I.

Merry Christmas!

I have a direct connect to Medicinal, I take cbd and Platinum Cookies at the moment. I don't give a shit about bullshit Iowa laws.

I've dropped of from 6 prescription drugs to one now and I don't have to deal with side effects, withdrawals or taxing the shit out of my liver and kidneys. @el dub

Hope you find relief.

See if your connect can get you some shatter/oil from an indica strain for pain management.

I got turned on to some zkittlez/black roses oil from Mendo county a couple of weeks back that relaxed my body and helped with pain more than any other cannabis product I’ve ever tried. And that was just one puff from a Honi bear vape.

Had stop the wax, shatter, sugars and all oils. My lungs got toasted, probably from over heating my wand and not using a proper rig. It was great having relieve from one dab for a couple hours.

I'll check it out. Thanks, and keep up the good work for the people brainwashed into poisoning themselves.

It’s no bueno to just smoke oil. I’d save that until before bed. Otherwise a person gets immune to the affects and flowers no longer provide any relief.

Here is one way to do it at home.

Freeze flowers in mason jars as well as alcohol. (In separate containers.) Remove from freezer. Open flower jar, add alcohol to cover. Replace lid. Shake vigorously for one minute.

Dump into strainer covered with cheesecloth over glass container. Remove flowers from strainer but totally cover with excess cheesecloth and squeeze out alcohol over glass container. Pour a bit of alcohol on material and squeeze again.

Pour the end product through coffee filter situated above second glass container. Evaporate alcohol over heating pad or in uncovered crock pot set on low until most alcohol gone.

Add everclear if iso used in first step and evaporate until alcohol entirely gone.

Decarb in double boiler over cooking oil at 250* for 30 minutes or until most CO2 bubbles have dissipated.

It usually takes about 12 mason jars and 1.5 to 2 gallons of alcohol/pound of flowers.

If theres ever a zombie apocalypse, HR could get together and form a pretty damn successful colony i'd say. We've got everything under the sun here from landscapers, to cannabis experts, to doctors and the guys with a ton of education to oversee everything... and i'm sure more than a few here are 'adequate' with a hunting rifle/other firearms.:)

I volunteer to dig a hole and fabricate our new underground bunker facility made out of shipping containers including a custom made resin/granular activated carbon water filtration system and Hepa air scrubber. With a couple volunteers to help we could have this done in no time...o_O
Ps. I do not know anything about hunting (willing to learn) but I can catch any fish that swims....:D
