I don’t blame them at all but this isn’t a coincidence that they are tweeting this out. Anyone know if they have a legitimate shot at him?

I don’t know if they have a legit shot or not, but they really need to land a big recruit this year. They’re in on Carr, Lee, Teske, Sasso. With St John and Metcalf I can see why a middle weight would want to go there.

Maybe I missed it somewhere along the line, but are we no longer an option for Sasso?

They whiffed on Lewan and I imagine there will more than a few restless Clone fans if they don't get at least one of the above mentioned kids.

I think Carr is between tOSU and ISU. Teske between PSU and ISU. Brayton Lee I'm not really sure, but the Minnesota guys on the team seem to going hard after him.

I think we're out of it with Sasso based on the writing on the wall. Guys on the team tweeting and retweeting Hoagie Hidlay's WNO performance but not showing any love to Sasso says a lot. I said in another thread but I think he may be leaning Virginia Tech.

Pretty spot on here.

Sasso is rumored to be visiting Iowa State this weekend but I think he is a VT lean. Metcalf has been to Sasso and Lee's clubs multiple times recently.

There may be a few restless Clones if we don't get any of those guys, but I won't be one of them. Of course i really, really, would like to land a couple of them, but it wouldn't make me "restless" if we didn't. Look at who we are up against for these dudes. PSU, tOSU, Minny, etc. The fact that we are even in the conversation with these guys is a testament to Dresser and Co. considering our recent history.

To be honest, i don't think our roster is as bad as was shown last year. Horrible weight mismanagement and general program direction from Jackson led to a lot of failure. This ISU rebuild will take time, and I am OK with that considering the circumstances.

I would think ISU is able to offer full rides to their top targets. Sounds like they have a legit shot with Carr, but I think they miss on all the others. Then again, I've been wrong many times before.
For recruiting momentum in their new environment... I'd say it's extremely important to make a splash this year in recruiting. The biggest hurdle is the lack of high quality training partners. There's no consolation in being someone's second or third choice.
From reading various sources... sounds like 2018 had more depth and top end talent than next year will.
But I'm not an ISU fan that will need to justify lack of recruiting success from the staff this year.
I will agree that the prolonged slump at ISU is a big obstacle.

You guys have a good head coach for sure. I'm not as gung ho as others about the rest of your staff but with KD calling the shots I'm sure it will be fine. You guys will get some good or great recruits in time. Your key will need to be development, regardless.

ISU already has several good recruits. If they do well with them, kids will come.
True. I think people forget some of the kids they do have in the program. They wont be great but with Dresser at the helm now, expect a much better result on the mat from them.

Side Note: ISU should start expecting some good recruiting news very soon.

I think ISU surprises everyone with a top 15 finish this year. I think they finish in the 12-15 range. I project 2-3 AA. I think they qualify 25-49, 65, 97, HWT.

Who will be the AAs? I think Storr has potential, but is at a deep weight. Maybe Colbray just because that weight is so weak?

Yes ISU is going to have a solid team this year. 25 and 33 are solid. 41 & 97 our there best wrestlers and best chance to AA. 49-84 will be good but not AA guys. 285 will be good also but no AA good. Gomez coming in the next year will be big for them.

If they can land Lee or Carr or both that would be huge for them.

Everyone knows I dislike the Clones, but I 'll give as objective of an opinion as possible.
To recap..1. Lewan- miss. 2. Sasso-miss 3.Teske -apparent miss.4.Lee-apparent miss.and 5.Carr- maybe 50/50.
What is the optimism? That they got a visit?

Given the purposed $$$ available, that looks like a whole lot of swing and miss to me.
You have an aging HC with a largely unproven staff. Then we hear stories on CR that holdover team members might be leaving.
Now anything is an upgrade from the old staff, but it's a VERY big leap to say they are anywhere near a top 15 program in the making.

Mitch - In all fairness, we have Hawk fans speculating Iowa could win this year. Anything's possible...but that's a long shot even with Lee, Warner, and Downey.

Top 15 prediction is ridiculous.

Lewan - wouldn't call him a miss, they were recruiting him but it wasn't a miss - never really in contention
Sasso - miss
Lee - big miss
Teske - big miss
Carr - 50/50

But everyone mentions money available this year. From what I heard, the last staff REALLY mismanaged scholarship allocation (along with weight management and overall program direction/accountability)

I think the new staff will be able to develop kids well..but man they sure have set back the program even further missing on all of these kids in a really deep class. next years class is one of the weakest i can remember.

Minnesota should land Lee from what I've heard.
McKee, Lee and Stevenson is a huge recruiting haul..

in contention

They are definitely not a top 15 program, and I'm on record that I'd be surprised if they even have 1 AA this year. This is going to be a multiple year rebuild, and fans need to cool down and expect it to take some time. But, there is plenty of reason to be optimistic.

The new staff is proven. Dresser built a top 5 program out of nothing at VT. Zadick is a long time assistant at more than one top program. Metcalf is not proven, but has credentials and name recognition that will help with recruiting. The staff has also raised some good money so far.

Carr is the #5 recruit in the class. Getting just him to add to all those other young guys would be huge. ISU had 4 top 55 guys considering them. Iowa had 2 and both teams are down to 1 still considering them.

I'm curious how much supposed money you think is available? I wouldn't expect it to be much. They have a pretty young team filled with guys that were pretty good recruits (Gomez #11, Colbray #11, Storr #35, Parker #80, Gremmel #84, Harrington (Fargo Champ), Simmons #31, Vega #51, Coleman #78, Degen #71, Leisure #95). I'm sure they have some significant money tied up in all of those guys.

I think Storr and Colbray both AA. I also think Vega, Simmons/Parker, Gremmel/Harrington, Diblasi all qualify and win a match. Degen, St John, Pestano could all qualify as well. To think its crazy that this team could get top 15 is nonsense. I'm a die hard hawkeye but I dont hate the other state schools. Actually In my perfect world Iowa wins it, UNI takes 2nd, and ISU takes 3rd. I also think UNI places top 15. I see them finishing just ahead of Iowa State in the 10-14 range.

2 AAs could possibly get you into 10-15, but one of them would need to place very high (top 3). 2 mid-low AAs likely gets you in 16-20.

The team had 1 point last year and it graduated. Without anyone likely to be a high AA/title contender it will take 3 AAs to get in the top 15 which would be a very bold prediction for ISU. They have 1 wrestler ranked in the preseason (13th) and no sure things waiting on the bench. If KD and co get this team in the top 15 they deserve coach of the year consideration.

Top 15 is wishful thinking, not sound reasoning. BTW, I definitely don't hate ISU either.

VT seems to have lots of high profile kids on the radar since KD left.
Coincidence?

They had their fair share when Dresser was still there. They're one of 10 schools to land at least a half-dozen top 30 recruits over the past five years (2012-2016):

10 - Iowa, Oklahoma State, Ohio State
9 - Penn State
8 - Lehigh, Minnesota
7 - Illinois, Michigan
6 - Va Tech, Nebraska

Not really. Robie was their ace recruiter..
Guess I should have inserted ;););) because you missed my ulterior intent. Buffy reads this forum religiously and it was another jab @ ISU.
On a side note...Lee postponed his scheduled verbal today...maybe just heard about Xanax issue and wants more dirt on Brandon(Ididn'tknownothing) Eggum. ;);)

I don't understand what you are saying by "setting the program back" by not getting these guys. Even further from what? Jackson? Should we just pull the plug now? So we will be worse this year?

That's not how this works. If you guys don't win the title next year should you pull the plug too? It takes time. You guys are working on it and so are we. Not at your level of guy at this point in time, but it will come.

Do you think that will happen?

Setting the program back was a pour choice of words. I meant that they have missed on so many recruits recently that they won’t be where they wanted/thought they’d be right now (talent wise).

They will be just fine. Dresser is one of her best in the biz. I thought I read a stat on here that Dresser only got 4 top 25 kids during his time at VT and he made multiple top10s and earned a trophy two years ago.
He will have 3 top 11 kids at ISU if he gets Carr. He will get ISU back in due time.

Ok, i gotcha now, and I agree. It would have obviously helped us had we gotten any of these guys.

I'll let the season play out before I write us off for dead though. It's not like our lineup is full of tomato cans. There is some young potential there already and that is a start. With good "iowa style" coaching, who knows :)

Lee down to Minny and Nebraska. ISU’s chances of landing Carr are way greater than 50%.
Sasso is a terrible fit for the Hawks.

Carr is down to either Cornell or Iowa State is the word on the Ohio boards, with ISU the favorite I guess. We shall see.

He is announcing live on Flo tomorrow morning.

I have to say I am fairly shocked as I thought he was all Buckeye for the longest time. If he does in fact chose ISU like the rumblings say, that would be HUGE for ISU. Carr is my #2 overall prospect in this loaded class only behind Gable Stevenson in my opinion. Obviously others (better, more informed, and professional "others") disagree with that, but I have had those two as my top 2 for several years now and I stand behind it.

That has to soothe the sting of losing Teske for Cyclone fans.

I hope ISU gets him, and I think they do. Cornell already has Merola(2018) and Ramirez(2019) committed in his projected weight range, they don't really need him as badly as ISU does. Could be a program/culture changer for ISU. I'd like to see ISU claw their way back in to the top 10 in the future.

Pretty solid recruiting class for ISU if they have #5 Carr, #46 Shapiro, #82 Duggan, and Lara I believe of note. I'd like to see them snag Aaron Brooks away from PSU if they could (they're in his top 5), though I highly doubt that will happen lol. But having Carr there could be an attractive training partner for him if Carr is 165 and Brooks is 174.
